Plans changed with saleing

It’s nearly midnight and I’m thinking that today’s plans were not what had been planned in the first place. I love it when there are NO plans. The kids and I did hit some garage sales, but then we passed a place to eat. Once that was finished, we decided to go real shopping, as they call it.

We found some great bargains on summer things. I actually thought that prices would be low after the holidays, but I was pleasantly surprised at the great sales we hit.

Now everyone is in their bedroom waiting until tomorrow to figure out plans and what they all want to do without me tagging around. Fine by me. I need to play in the gardens and call some blogging buddy about her bale gardening. It would be good to meet up with her again and we could do a quick see what we can see and find trip. Maybe some flea markets or antique shops.

Shopping for safes

While being up in the attic during the last two days, assessing the damage due to rain and also  improper venting, I have decided to start looking for a couple Safes, because I found boxes of valuable documents and also lots of jewelry that I thought had been taken to my mom’s house when we moved here and needed to store these items. Somehow they ended up here.

I have two small safes down here on the main floor of the house, but after looking at the valuable documents and other papers that I have, I’d like to some way to hide them, yet maybe turn them into a useful piece of furniture. When I talked to a friend, he said it could be done and the safes would be hidden. I like this idea.

I have looked at various sites who sell gun safes also. What I need is one that is fire proof, and large enough not to get just carried out of here, if we aren’t at home. I would love to have the Rhino gun safe. It’s on my wish list, because it is rather expensive and I don’t have that kind of money right now, but from what I read about it, it’s a good one and that it seems worth it. Besides, it’s a good looking safe!

After Easter sales

Tomorrow my oldest daughter and I are going shopping for what ever we can find left over from Easter that is on sale. My daughter does volunteer work at the school for the younger kids in grades 1 and 2, and she wants to find things that she will be able to use for next years class room decorations.

She was bringing up memories today, about how I have Easter traditions, and how I used to go all out on decorations, baskets and egg hunts. I’ll admit, when the kids were young and up until about three years ago, I still did that. Now…no one believes in the the Easter Bunny, hadn’t for years, which I knew, but yet I still I did the Bunnie, “thing.”

Now, I just buy the candy they like and are their favorites, at sales after Easter, and give it to them. It’s kind of sad in a way, not to have anyone to decorate for, except me,  but as long as they don’t mind it, I’ll have to get used to it. At least I’ll be saving a great deal of money hitting the sales, and my daughter will find the decorations she wants for the little ones who still believe!! I love it when small children believe in the figures of holidays.

Seeds and more seeds

While shopping yesterday, I came across seeds on sale, 10 packets for 1.00. ( I never can figure out why stores just don’t put a sign up that says, Seeds .10 a packet…marketing I guess… ) Now, I thought that something may be “wrong” with the seeds, but I checked the run date and it was for this year.

I had never heard of the brand name, but I figured that I’d try them in a certain plot I have and if I don’t see a growth process in a week or so, I’ll just replant. I only bought ten packets, and asked the “garden guy” how long the sale would be for. He told me that the price that the seeds were marked, in the price that the store will sell them for until they run out of seeds. So…I’ll take a shot with them and if they grow, I’ll go back and see if the store has any seeds left. It’s sort of a chancy decision, but what the heck?

Later today, I’m going on another seed shopping spree. I think I know of a place where I can get some heirloom seeds at a lower price than they usually are around here. Happy shopping to me!

Wanting a wood stove and mantle

My passion for fire places and beautiful wood burning stoves,  stems from my great grandma, my Nana and my Mom. My kids are the same way in which they love the warmth and ambiance of the fire. Each has been taught to know their wood and how each kind burns. To chop and stack, then take care of the wood they cut and to also know the value of each kind of wood. While I was “Look Shopping” for a mantle, I came cross some really great links one of which is:  fireplace inserts bay area. Even though I wasn’t from that state, I checked them out. That is when the “look shopping ” turned into  looking in earnest for a stove.

Growing up around wood stoves and fireplaces all of my life means of course, I have my favorite styles and I don’t really believe in electric stoves that don’t have logs that burn. Much to fancy for me, but I know a lot of people who really like them a great a lot. A person doesn’t have to deal with chopping, hauling and then stacking wood. I did see some awesome fireplace mantles that I am taking into consideration.

When looking for wood stoves for sale, I have to figure out how much I want to utilize it into a room. I’m looking forward to some remodeling, decorating and making a homey cozy room.

From bed skirt to satin pillowcases

It’s ironic that I no more was talking about satin bedding to use in the RV, I got online and found beloved Satin Pillowcases. I love then if I’m going to be unable to wash and style my hair for a day or so. Satin doesn’t muss one’s hair up, and I read somewhere that it’s actually good to make hair shinier and well behaved. I just like them because my hair is super long and yet it’s layered a lot, and sometimes I wake up looking like Medusa. Satin in my book is great for the hair. My Nana and Aunt, not to mention my mother, taught me how to use satin pillowcases when I wanted my hair to “behave.”

While shopping or at least looking for new bedding in my RV, I also decide to get the family another set, since the link I found, has everything they would want, and the prices are really good on the pocketbook. I even found the right colors of Bed Skirts, that everyone would approve of and like. Then I turned myself in to decorator and started concentrating on the RV, and what I wanted to do with it.

I looked at the Mattress Covers, and found exactly what I would need for the individual sleeping spaces. I don’t sleep on satin sheets in the RV or at home. I use the satin pillow trick,  usually when I go away in the RV to do family stuff. But I’m here to say that all of the items I have found now, in just one place, shopping right here at home, plus being able to write, makes me happy. And the satin lovers in my family, are going to be happy campers also, now.

Seed shopping

Today it seemed almost like Spring outside. I even went out for awhile in just a sweatshirt and for me, that is saying a lot, considering I am always cold unless it is in the heat of the deep summer. After I had been outside for awhile, I went with my husband to do errands and drop some papers off to my doctor that needed to be signed. While we were running errands, and because it felt so good to be out and about without my neck and back hurting so much, I went to Dollar General store. I only needed a wash bucket and old style mop. But I couldn’t help looking at all the garden items they had.

Bless my husband’s heart. He is not a patient person when it comes to waiting for me to shop. He is the kind of person who goes into the store, gets what he wants and needs and leaves. Takes all of maybe ten minutes and that is pushing it. Today he was patient, since he has been at me to get outside or do something so I’m won’t become a hermit. (His words)

I found a HUGH display of seeds that were 3 for 1.00. In the past…a few years ago, I used to get them there 10 or 1.00. They always came up, and the herbs, veggies and flowers were hardy and grew very well. What a jump in price, though. Goes to show what this world is coming to. Not only is it hard to buy groceries at the supermarket and afford to feed our family a healthy meal, but it’s getting to the point of even growing our own produce and feeding our livestock, is hard and expensive. It really is distressing. I try to save all my seeds from what I grow, but sometimes it’s just not enough. Have to keep on going on though.

Checking out new carpet

My daughter’s room needs new carpet. She pointed out a few places near the door that had slipped out from under the threshold strip. I knew it was a bit loose, but didn’t realize that it had slipped out, since I really don’t go into my kids rooms unless it’s a total necessity.

We have a Carpet Outlet, in town that is really great! I think I’ve mentioned it in some of my posts. They have great carpet at low prices, but they also carry a really vast variety of remnants in nearly every size a person would need. My daughter’s bedroom is small, so this won’t be a problem at all, and it will be nice carpet, at a very low price. I’m excited to see what she picks out.

The final decision for the carpet will of course be mine, as she won’t be living here after she finishes collage, unless she wants to. The carpet I bought and laid in her room that is in there now, is still in wonderful shape, considering it’s quite a few years old. But once it starts to ravel like it is, I found I can’t fix it. Nor do I really want to. New carpet is in order, but I will consider her choices also, since she indeed has good taste in decorating and home make overs.

Sale on used tractors and equipment

Since I started farming at a very young age, as time went on and we updated our heavy equipment, we would post a notice that we had used farm tractors for sale. Back then…years ago, of course we didn’t have the computers and the internet, so we had to rely on bulletin boards, and also small ads in the papers. We also had a local radio station, that we could advertise the farm equipment we had for sale. Now with the internet and world wide access, it’s made it a lot easier to sell our used tractors, and other farm and construction equipment.

I have my favorite trucks, but am looking for used trucks for sale. I like the big trucks that will take a beating and still hold up. I have an ’82 Bronco with a 351 Windsor in it, and also a Reese hitch on the back end. I will never ever get rid of my “Bad Boy” as I call my truck, but I do need a big truck, like a dump truck because of hauling wood and stone.

Right now we are looking for used dozers, because we have to doze the old farmstead house down. It’s going to be sad to see it go, but it would cost too much money to repair it. Plus having a bulldozer would help a lot with other chores on the farm.

Checking out online florists

Deciding on the best online florists is a hard decision. Usually I send my friends from other countries flowers or plants through a local florist here, but believe me…it gets really costly. I’ve checked to see if the arrangements I wanted were sent, or if something totally different that had no personality what so ever were sent. Sometimes the florists just don’t care. They will cut their cost by sending a plant or arrangement, that is not up to the standards that I was shown in person or that I have picked out online.

I have to admit that I don’t often send flowers after some really bad experiences, but since my brother is a Chief in the US Air Force, he has lived all over Europe and he gave me a site to go on from there. I have never had a bad experience with where he directed me. Indeed it is the best online florist that I ever have used.

I am into gardening and though I’m not a professional gardener, I am really good at my passion and to me it isn’t even really a hobby anymore. I love to see gardeners talents from all over the world and have gotten some really great ideas for mine, plus some awesome tip and information. All by searching the internet. There are so many places with awesome gardens that I know I will never be able to see in real life, but they are just a click away on my computer. It isn’t the same, but it’s as good as it is going to get, and I’m happy just browsing and getting some ideas! The plus is, some of the arrangements I’ve sent via really good florists that are mainly in the UK, look like they were picked from awesome gardens and then arranged with perfection to be sent. That is how I really like it, since my flowers from my gardens of course would never get there without wilting.
