Already December and Lets Try Fruitcake

It seems like it was just last week that I finally was warm enough outside to wear a tank top and shorts. And now, we are getting hit with ice storms. Where does the time go, or has the weather changed so drastically over the years? I vote on the weather changing so drastically. But that is my personal opinion.

We survived Thanksgiving dinner and my new pantry is still in it’s planning stage until after the New Year. I figure I can wait that long…sort of…

It’s nearly time for me to start my fruit cake. Now mind you all, I don’t like fruit cake. No, no, no. So I’ve decided to make up a new recipe of my own that I know I will like, and I bet I’ll even get my guys to like it. Wish me luck, since I have no clue as to what I am doing. Maybe though… if it turns out, which I have a conceited feeling it will. I’ll post the recipe and photos! 🙂

An Organic Lawn Care Service

As the years go by, I can’t count the amount of money I’ve put in to my gardens and lawn. I’m having problems with the back yard and the grass that is growing back there. A friend of mine told me about TruNatural Organic Lawn Care Service that she had used and I wanted to get the info about it. While checking out the site, I must admit that I was and still am totally impressed!

I was worried if I hired a lawn care service that there would be chemicals and treatments that could harm the family and our pets, but with an organic lawn care service, this particular one anyway, the products are certified by the EPA, which gives me the peace of mind I need. Various lawns need different kinds of care and TruNatural offers it all!

Professionals actually are doctors for your lawn and unlike doctors today, these professionals make house calls! I think that statement kind of says it all, considering I know my lawn isn’t up to par and needs help. It just doesn’t look as green and lush and it’s supposed to be. There are literal plans that meet my lawns certain needs and since I don’t know what exactly it needs, I’ve decided it’s well worth the time asking lots of questions and also worth the money that I’ll actually be saving with an honest service instead of one that just does the minimum for my lawn but charges a fortune. It indeed is worth checking this service out!

Spring thoughts

While letting the dogs out this morning, I walked into the back yard and despite the snow and ice we had this past week,  there were dandelions growing next to my old well. There they were…four perfect small yellow flowers poking out through the snow. That is what I call either determination or real hardy plants!

I happen to love dandelions. While the kids were growing up, we called them dandy flowers and to be honest, I still do. They are great for a lot of things and make tasty spirits if made and fermented properly. There is a convent of nuns or used to be, in Ohio that made the best dandy flower wine and used to sell it to help with the convents upkeep. I was too young to try it at the time, but I hear that it had an exceptional bouquet. (pun intended).

The dandelion greens are quite tasty also, if cooked the right way. I’ve never tried this with the family, but I like them. To me, dandelions are not a weed. I know people who battle dandelions every year trying to have a lawn that is dandelion free. The roots, which are good for you also, grow very deep and they are indeed hard to kill. Myself, I figure why try and kill them off. I like how they make the acreage in my back yard look. To me, they are a sure sign of spring.

Bamboo fencing and outdoor fountians theme

While looking for various theme ideas for the section of my back yard that I would like to make in to my own personal outdoor space, I came across bamboo fencing. I had never even thought to look at that type of fencing before, and I really like how it looks. I’ve always wanted a sort of tropical look in my gardens, and when I decided to make my own sitting area to meditate, read and just be alone, I wanted to fence it in, but none of the fencing I looked at was what I wanted.

Once I fence in my area, I’ll start putting in plants that look tropical, but can be grown in our area. I also have always wanted a couple of outdoor fountains, because the sound of the water makes for a really relaxing setting. I’d love to have moss as my ground cover also, but that is a project I have to work on and see if I can grow it. I’ve been looking at various fountains and I’d love to have matching ones, that have a flat back so I can put one on two sides of my fenced in area.

I’m really looking forward to this project, now that I’ve found the perfect fencing for it to come together. I know it’s going to take time, and will no doubt cost quite a few dollars to get perfect, but for serenity and relaxation, it will be well worth it.

Great cloth diapers and diaper covers for gifts

It seems that all of my oldest daughter’s friends, have decided this summer is the time to have their second and third child, which means my gift of  cloth diapers and even diapers services are now to be thought about. At last count, there are four of the girls who have been best friends for years, that are expecting little ones in the next five months. They, I noticed spaced their children out in age, so they didn’t have two little babies in the home at the same time. In this period of time, things have change a lot for all of them.

When my daughter first got pregnant, I asked her to consider using cloth diapers and saving some money while doing so. She wasn’t too keen on the subject, since she was 13 when I had her first little brother. She saw me washing diapers and at that point in her life, she wasn’t into doing her own laundry, though she would help fold the diapers and diaper covers for me.

While my daughter and I were together last week, planning on big baby shower for all four girls together, such as tradition I showed my daughter the site I had found online shopping, that carries every type of diaper one could possibly imagine. The little covers are so awesome and cute now. It’s changed so much since I had to diaper my baby in plain white. Now it’s might be fun to change a baby’s diapers!

The comfort of sheepskin products

Ever since I was a young girl, I have always loved the feel of sheepskin products. Having grown up on a farm the stables and barn were the places you most likely would find me. Even my horse’s tack had a lot of sheepskin that protected my horse from rash and injury to the skin. I think this is where my love for sheepskin and also realization of the comfort it afforded both my best friend and I as we grew.

When I got old enough to move out and afford my own place, the first things I bought for myself, were a few sheepskin rugs. I was fortunate enough to have rented a wonderful old cottage with a fireplace. Of course, that was about the only form of reliable heat I found out, so that was were the rug went. In the winter I spent more time sleeping on that rug than I did in my bed, and it kept me off the cold floor, warm and toasty. Plus it was so comfortable to sleep on, I ended up putting two large rugs on my bed.

At first when my mom got me sheepskin seat covers for my truck, I was a bit unconvinced that I wouldn’t roast sitting on them in the summer. I was totally wrong. On the contrary, I didn’t stick to the seat and the covers weren’t warm in the hot summer to sit on at all. I love all sheepskin items. I won’t even buy slippers or house boots unless they are lined in sheepskin.
