Leftovers until next year

Why is it, when I start to cook, I can’t seem to stop and the food sort of grows and grows?? Dinner was over last night at an estimated time of 27 minutes after cooking for two days. While putting the leftovers away, I ran out of storage containers and had to have my husband seek out a store to buy more of them for me. I know he didn’t want to go out, since he was totally stuffed, but he did then got home and promptly fell asleep. No new news there! I did get the thanks you’s and and the compliments though on the dinner, which was nice. Now what to cook with the left overs…

I’ve decided to start adding some of the recipes I’ve made up that have turned out really well. I do have a taste tester in my oldest son, but well…some of the things I come up with don’t look the greatest, but the flavor is awesome. So, these will be recipes that anyone can do. I just don’t measure much. :S So bear with me.

Canada’s Thanksgiving

I have met a lot of people who have become friends, via the internet. Very good people who I’m close to and share thoughts and such with. I want to wish them a very Happy Thanksgiving. It seems a bit strange still that their holidays are sometimes on different days than ours in the USA, but after so many years, I’ve gotten used to the differences. Eat up for me and enjoy the holiday, my friends!!

It’s heating up

It seems the weather is doing some drastic things all over the US. Here it’s starting to heat up and we really need the rain. I’m feeling very sorry for the farmers all over, as first around here it was too wet to get into the fields, so crops were planted late. Now, the corn is “reaching” for rain and it’s sad to see that the crops are not doing well at all. It also makes me really worry about what the prices of groceries are going to be in the year to come. I can’t believe how high prices are now anyway. I’m glad I watched my Mom cook while growing up. She can make something really good out of nothing, as we tell her. 🙂

Nuts or Not?

I’m going to make brownies tonight. I have a craving for chocolate and I know I have a box of brownie mix in the pantry. The big questions is: do I put chopped walnuts in it or not?

Back to the Grind

I hope everyone had a nice Memorial Day holiday. To a lot of people the day off from work means a chance to sit at the pool or in the sand somewhere. To others it means the Indy 500 race or a full day of fishing. To me, it means I could sleep in an extra hour, take my time getting primped and pampered, and then cook up a storm for our annual cookout at the lake. I always make my famous potato salad and my green and white pasta salad. And this year I made a chilled fruit salad, too.

But today it is back to work. Back to reality. Back to the daily grind. I could use another holiday and wish I didn’t have to wait until July 4th to have one!

Seedless Watermelons

There were two huge boxes of fresh watermelons in the produce section at Publix today.  went ahead and bought one for $4. It is seedless and completely ripe. It seems odd in a way to be eating watermelons this early in the year. – I have no idea where they were grown other than there is a little white sticker on it that says, “Grown in the USA.”

I wonder how they grow seedless watermelons if there are no seeds to plants for the next crop? I don’t understand that whole biology thing abut seedless or hybrid fruits and vegetables.

Hot Tea for the Soul

Tried a new flavor of tea today by Lipton. It is a green tea that comes in a special triangle shaped teabag. It is flavored with little bit of orange peel that you can see inside the bag. It steeps for just a couple of minutes and then is very smooth and mild to drink.

Deer chili

A very dear friend of our gave us some fresh venison this week and I made the ground part of it into deer chili. Let me brag on it, it was very good and I was very pleased with how it turned out. I searched and found a recipe on the internet and it looked very simple and it was. It had a very nice chili flavor and of course I added to the recipe just a bit. I added Sweet Italian Sausage and it made it very tasty. It would of been fine with out the sausage but I think it perked it up very nicely and I will have to try this again as soon as James gets me some more deer meat, he is the only person that we know who goes hunting a lot.

July 4th

Every year on the 4th of July we have family and friends over for a huge BBQ and fireworks display. I wish I could take credit for the fireworks display but it put on by the water park across the lake but from our deck we have a wonderful view. This year we are having BBQ ribs and corn on the cob with baked potatoes cooked on the grill. Lots of beer and soda to wash it all down and the party is on. Looks like very good weather this year last year we had some rain kinda messed up the BBQ part of the party but this year looks clear and mild. Thank you Mother Nature.
