Late seed and plant shopping

Today, my mom, daughter and I went late seed shopping. It’s not really late, since our growing season last into fall, but it’s sometimes iffy to plant late like this. Still, mom knew of some stores that had seeds really cheap and if I don’t use them this year, I’ll use them next year. Unless seeds are a few years old, I don’t pay much attention to the expiration dates. I keep them in air tight and water resistant containers, so I’ve never had a problem with them growing.

Tomorrow we’re going to take my mom out for dinner for Father’s Day. She doesn’t want me to spend my money on this and wanted to cook us dinner. That is just the way she is. Today I bought her some great inside plants that she’ll get tomorrow. It was hard to get them into the cart and paid for, then into the trunk of the car without her seeing them, but I had my daughter distract her. Actually, mom has eyes behind her head and doesn’t miss a trick, so she no doubt saw them or had an idea that I got them for her. She’ll act surprised though.

My garden here is starting to look really nice and I’ve been working on my son and my bale garden. It’s fun and interesting to see how well the veggies are going to do planting this way, since we’ve never done it. I’m getting a lot of advice from my friend Lindsay though. It’s been a long day, I’m tried after walking all over today. I’m looking forward to scattering s0me seeds tomorrow though in a spot I dug up along the sidewalk.

Power needs from Generators AtoZ

While preparing for my daughter’s graduation party, I realized that we might need another generator for when the band sets up in our back lot, and so since I had heard about Generators AtoZ, I decided to check them out and find out what kind of prices they were there. I have to say that I was quite impressed by the range of generators they have and the prices. I think there is a generator for any kind of need a person my have.

We have a small generator that is sufficient to run enough power to some of the lights, the television and also refrigerator and a small chest freezer, in case we loose power, and that seems to have always been enough for us. In truth though, I have always wanted a back up generator in case something happened to our small one.

Living all these years where the winters can be long and sometimes very icy, means we loose power at least three times in the winter for durations of anywhere from a few minutes to days. A few hours is long enough for me not to have power. Looking at all the generators on this site I was told about, is making me know for sure that I want another power source other than what we have.

Needing LA movers

Recently I got a long letter from my cousin Mere, who is moving back to Los Angeles and was looking for a reputable Los Angeles moving company, she told me in the letter. While reading what she had written, I received a blow by blow description of the “horrors” she had experienced, when she had used her first moving company while moving there the first time. She wrote practically a book about what happens to her belongings. After the fourth page, I was ready to go and move her myself.

My cousin did however find a LA movers finally that she seems happy with and who she seems to trust, yet she still is unsure of if she will use them. The way I figure it, if the company can give a estimate or even a quote on the price of moving belongings, and are reputable, I’d go with them. There aren’t too many out there, or at least in my area that I would trust.

It makes a difference when moving to have movers that know what they are doing and give a person peace of mind, because there is enough to worry about without worrying that something is going to happen with one’s things. When I asked Mere if she was going to use the one Los Angeles movers she had written about, she said she was now seriously thinking about it. I hope so, so I don’t get another horror story letter, once she is settled into her new place!

Kids counting the days

My two youngest who are in high school are counting the days until school is finally out for the summer. I’m not. Officially they have four more days, but two are only half days, so to me, they will be out of school too soon. Summer Holidays…Oh Joy.

I don’t mean to sound like a mother that doesn’t want her kids around. That isn’t it. It is the boredom they will claim after they are home for a week. Heck, on weekends they tell me they are bored. What are they going to do for three months?

I would mention jobs, but I don’t see that happening. Of course, I’m not going to be a bank for them either, so it will either be work for it, or go without, as far as I’m concerned. That would cure boredom and also put some money in their pocket. 🙂

A spoon full of protein

Earlier my son came in and told me he was hungry for something, yet didn’t know what he was hungry for. I threw out a couple ideas for him, none of which he was interested in. He kept wandering around the kitchen, looking in cupboards and in both of the refrigerators and freezers.

There is plenty of healthy snacks, fruit and fixings to make sandwiches out of. At one point, I thought he just was on the lazy side today and wanted me to fix him something. Finally, I did what my mom used to do when as a kid and didn’t know what I wanted to eat. I got out the peanut butter and a large spoon, scooped out a spoonful of the peanut butter and handed it to him. I was tired of him hanging on the refrigerator door with it open, if truth be known.

He asked the silly question of course, “What is that?” (I knew that he would) And I just told him it was a new easy snack called peanut butter on a spoon. He shrugged and ate it. He even washed his spoon after he was finished. And it made him stop hanging out in the kitchen and hanging on my fridge doors, plus he got a bit of protein in his lanky body!

Missed auction

Of all the auctions to miss, it was the items for auction from the home my daughter and her family will be moving into tomorrow. Things came up and I had to do some important errands, thinking I could at least make it to the tail end of the sale, but didn’t.

I went for no doubt the last time to my daughter’s “old” house, tonight and she had told me that she wished she had known what I wanted, and she would have placed bids for me, but then she also knows that I will bid on boxes of what seem like junk and come up with a treasure, I’ve no doubt wanted for a long time. I’m very fortunate like that. I consider auctions an art.

I’m going to the new home tomorrow to wander through and tonight I got joy out of seeing my daughter so excited and happy. She’s so excited to show everything to me, and I’m excited to see it all. She deserves this and so do her kids.

Peaceful Easter day

It was a really nice day with the family all getting together and celebrating Easter together. I really enjoyed it. Since had already gotten everything  made and cooked and ready for today. All I had to do is pop the ham in the oven this morning, before I went to Mass and then put out all the food when I got back in time for everyone to be ready to eat. I love buffets. Much easier than a sit down dinner and I know the family like it better too.

The family all just hung out. Some watched television and others got a card game going. Some of the kids (they are still kids to me no matter how old they are) went for a walk and all in all, it was peaceful for a change.

The only thing that put sort of a damper on the day, was that it was windy and despite it being a bit over 60 degrees outside, the wind was strong and it was cold! At least it didn’t rain though and the sun was shining! I would have liked to do some gardening with the plants I was given for Easter, but it was too cold outside for me.

Getting away from it all

My daughter and I are at other place that we both love, and have left the guys to fend for themselves over the weekend. It’s good to go a bit South for awhile, to get away as there has been a bit of turmoil going on over stupid stuff that I just didn’t feel like dealing with this weekend. My daughter and I just needed to get away. My daughter Iris, is a sensitive young lady and she is the kind that likes and wants to keep the peace, but I could tell she needed the break as much as I Having my two sons stay with their dad for a time might be a wake up call for them, and it might be a good one…I don’t know. He lets them get away with basically anything, and I’m kind of tired of being the bad guy all the time. Of course, they will indeed take full advantage of the fact that their father when home, tends to get lost into the sofa and television and doesn’t have a clue what is happening around him. Yes, I am a bit worried, but I’m leaving that worry to fate. What happens if anything, will.

In the mean time, once we got here it was like we breathed a deep one and then relaxed. It’s so peaceful here.  I am however a Mom first and foremost, and indeed want to call to see if everything is going alright. BUT, I have to have Faith it is and then let it go.

Tomorrow I think Ris and I are going to go shopping. I need to try and find some film for my old camera and also want to get more acrylics to finish a painting I’ve been working on here. I’ll also take Ris out to lunch and to any shops or stores she would like to go to also. We’ll go to mass on Sunday and it’ll give me a chance to get updated on what is happening in the community and the congregation. It’s Lent and I’m anxious to catch up on what is happening and if there is any volunteer work that needed to be done, that Ris and I usually sign up for if we know for sure we can get down here. Other than that, we have plans to do things around the house and in general…relax a bit.

Rampant colds and strep throat

With the change in the weather, I sort of expected for us to come down with the annual colds and sore throats that we usually do. Generally we shake it, with chicken soup and lots of liquids, and rest. Not this time. My youngest son is feeling well now, after he got over strep. But I got it…Aren’t Mom’s supposed to be immune? Then the rest of the family followed.

I honestly can’t stand it when my children are sick. Despite of their ages and they are nearly grown adults…( Okay, sometimes they don’t act like it, but age wise they are…) I always feel so sorry for them and of course, this is the only time they want “Their Mommy.”

I’ve got a HUGE pot of chicken soup brewing on the stove, and went to the store and loaded up on the Power Aids, which will do well to put electrolytes in their bodies. They are actually resting on their own and they must feel kind of poopy, since they aren’t arguing with me. WHEN IS WARM WEATHER GOING TO GET HERE????? Okay, a moment of spazing out there… I’m entitled. (;

Kegan’s adventure

My daughter’s boyfriend is on a Greyhound bus coming to see us, and will stay until next week. He is coming from Massachusetts and so far, the bus ride has been rather miserable. Poor kid. I feel for him, as when I was his age, I traveled by bus to Richmond Va. and it was a long, tiring ride. He hasn’t slept much at all…just has dozed, so I’m sure he is going to sleep well tonight.

My daughter is so darn cute…she is excited and can’t sit still. LOL! Ahhh, young love. I remember when. Actually my daughter is 18 and Kegan is 20, so it’s not really young love, but both are younger minded in a pleasant way. I get a kick out of them.

We will be going to my Mom’s for the weekend, and I have a task for them. I want them to sort my seeds for my gardens there, that I am going to plant come spring as long as all goes well with my surgery. I have dried the seeds I collected last fall and now they need sorted and put into wax paper packages that I make for them. Then they need marked as to what they are. It will give them both something to do.
