Watching the stars

I love to lay out in the back yard and look at the stars. Lately there have been a whole lot of meteor showers. I always thought they generally happened in later September or in early October, but apparently this is not the case. There simply can’t be that many shooting and falling stars. Or can there be, considering how much stuff they have shot up into the air for so long, that actually don’t belong up there.

An unexpected plant

I’ve just about given up on my garden. It looks terrible as we haven’t had rain and with the water bill as it is, due to filling the pool and the kids taking cold showers, plus laundry and just in general using lots of water this summer, I really can’t afford to water the gardens like they should be. I did however walk out into the back yard, and we have bales of straw back there to be burned when we get some rain and the fields, trees and grass aren’t so dry. I had looked out the window and saw orange “somethings” way out back, so when I walked out there to see what they were, they turned out to be flowers which are HUGH and beautiful, and a very large pumpkin plant! There is a little pumpkin growing on it also. My blogging buddy told me about her bale gardening, and her grandson’s pumpkins along with her other plants, and I thought it was a strange way of doing things, but had told my son about it. Now I’m wondering if my son had stuck a seed in that bale of straw just to see if it would grow. I might do this next year!

Broken bones

My oldest daughter was at her in laws house, that is on the lake and from what she said everything was going well, they were having a great time, but had to warn the kids to be really careful going up and down the deck steps while they were wet, since they were slippery. What did she do? Went up the steps, slid in water that was on the deck and tumbled down. She broke her arm from above the elbow to just under her arm pit. I feel so sorry for her since we’ve had pure record breaking heat, her arm is in a cast from under arm to wrist and of course she is in a great deal of pain. Besides, oldest child or not, she is still my “Baby”. She goes to the surgeon again in three days to see how it’s doing. So far it’s not healing normally and we are so worried she’ll have to have surgery, as he has suggested.

Misery

I never thought that I would admit this, considering my love for the summer and warm weather. It’s too hot. Terribly hot and all day I have felt sick to my stomach. I’ve been drinking a large amount of Powerade to replenish electrolytes and it has the sodium I need also. I’m to get lab work done tomorrow to make sure my sodium levels are not dropping, or I’ll end up in the hospital with an IV drip. The dogs are miserable and so is everyone else. We need rain badly, and even though storms where in the forecast, there isn’t a could in the sky and even the breeze we do have, feels like an oven being opened after it’s preheated. My husband took two of the kids swimming at my friends. She had called and asked if I wanted to come over earlier, but I felt so sick and puky I didn’t go. From what I’ve seen on the news it’s like this all over. I wish it would rain. It sure would be welcomed.

Darn dentist

My son went to the dentist last week and came home complaining about his jaw hurting very badly. He had gotten a filling, but the way his mouth, jaw and even his lips were puffed up, didn’t make sense that getting a filling would cause that reaction. All of a sudden it stopped hurting. Come to find out, it is his wisdom tooth in the back left coming in. The dentist neglected to tell my son or husband who had taken him in, about the wisdom tooth, though the gum was obviously red and swollen. The poor kid is going to have to have them removed. I feel so badly for him. At least for now it’s not hurting him like it was.

Dr. Appointment and results

I went to the doctor today because the fibromyalgia I have is hurting more than usual. He asked what was happening in my life and actually, I’m a bit stressed about some things, but I didn’t realize that it was enough to cause a bigger flair up than normal. In a nut shell, I have to try and avoid stress. LOL! Hmmm… maybe I need a vacation!

It’s heating up

It seems the weather is doing some drastic things all over the US. Here it’s starting to heat up and we really need the rain. I’m feeling very sorry for the farmers all over, as first around here it was too wet to get into the fields, so crops were planted late. Now, the corn is “reaching” for rain and it’s sad to see that the crops are not doing well at all. It also makes me really worry about what the prices of groceries are going to be in the year to come. I can’t believe how high prices are now anyway. I’m glad I watched my Mom cook while growing up. She can make something really good out of nothing, as we tell her. 🙂

Have a safe Holiday

Well, the 4th is tomorrow and the family doesn’t really have any plans. We all used to pack up and go somewhere to watch the fireworks when the kids were little, but now that they are darn hear grown, it seems they have no interest in going to see them. On the road that I live, the neighbors always have lots of fireworks and for the last week someone is always setting a few off, so I’ve seen some great ones already. But this year, I’ll just sit on my back deck and watch what kind of show they put on this year. Besides, I don’t want to be on the road with anyone who may have partied a bit too much this weekend. Around here the drunk driving rate is unfortunately very high.
