Houses and Homes

When it comes to a house, there are many important parts. Of course we think of walls and a roof and doors and windows. There are some parts to a house that are often overlooked. One thing that is really important is your mail box. Even though this item is not always technically part of your house, its one thing that makes your house a home.

We started trying to improve our home by doing some remodeling and other repairs. The one thing that we were missing was that personal touch that would make our house stand out from the rest. I began looking at mail boxes as a way to add a touch of class to our home. I thought it would be a great way to show our character.

I asked the opinion of everyone in the house. The wife and kids all chipped in and made suggestions as to the type of mailbox we should have. It was fun having everyone interested in our new little project. After much debate, we finally decided which one would fit our home the best. Now that our new box is installed, it’s nice to see it when I pull into the driveway. It’s worked out very well for us and we are all proud of the way it looks. It’s funny how a little thing can make a house a home!

Tiles

Whenever I get the chance, I like to work around the house. I am always looking for new tasks to do so that I can keep busy while improving my home. An excellent opportunity came up recently when my wife suggested that I try to install tiles on the bathroom floor. Our old floor was that cheap laminate that was getting pretty ratty looking. I thought this would be a great job to take on.

The first thing we had to decide was what type of bathroom tiles we wanted. I was lucky to find a site on the internet that was really neat. The site is called glasstilestore.com and it has a nice selection of tiles to choose from. I never knew there were so many types of tile. I even found subway tiles on the site. I knew it would take some time to figure out what tiles we wanted.

Another thing I liked about the site was the fact that we were able to learn all about the advantages of using tile in our home. That certainly made our decision to install tile much easier. I am eager to get started on the project and hope that we will soon have a beautiful new bathroom floor. I know my wife and kids will enjoy it as well.

Unwanted Visitor!

I was lying on the couch when I heard my son making a ruckus upstairs. It seems that he was trying to corner a mouse in his bedroom. I don’t know how the mouse got in or how long he has been there, but I agreed with my son that we needed to get him out! The mouse got away despite our efforts to catch him and we decided to set some traps for him.

One of the best ways to trap a mouse is by setting the following trap. Take a common trash can and place it in the middle of a room the mouse is known to frequent. Lean a board from the floor up to the can. Place an empty cardboard center from a paper towel roll on the edge of the can. The mice love tunnels and will enter and fall into the can. Works every time! We took the mouse for a ride and let him go in the woods. Problem solved!

Books galore!

Last fall I visited a yard sale. I was surprised to find a number of excellent books for sale. At 25 cents each, I thought they were a steal. I found such authors as Stephen King, Tom Clancy, and Robin Cook. Needless to say, I grabbed all I could get and brought them home. I have a large shelf full of books and I am constantly adding to it.

I really enjoy reading a little each night before I lay down. It helps me relax and I like the stories. I’ve read all my life and I hope I can pass on this hobby to my kids. I think it’s important to expand the mind whenever possible. I am keeping my eyes open for the next opportunity to buy more of these treasures!

Thanksgiving Day

Today is one of everybody’s favorite holidays. Thanksgiving has finally arrived and I am so ready to dig in to some turkey! We are going all out this year and are preparing a meal that would fit a king. You name it, we have it! We will have a house full of people and I imagine that everyone will bring something to eat with them as well. The refrigerator will surely be packed with leftovers by tonight. I also want to wish everyone a happy thanksgiving holiday!

Happy Birthday!!

It’s that time of year again when somebody I know is having a birthday! I wanted everyone to lend me a hand in saying Happy Birthday to my niece Amanda who is turning 5 years old today. I hope she will have a great day and I’m sure she will.

I was informed that Amanda will be spending the day at a local Chucky Cheeses with several of her friends. I believe that along with all the presents she will undoubtedly receive, she’ll be in for a day to remember.

Happy Birthday Amanda!

Home Time

I am going to get some home time and the great thing about my job is I don’t have to take my home time where I actually live so I am going to go home to see my parents I have a feeling I will be using a lot of my home time to visit family I haven’t seen in a while because I don’t have to pay for the trip there now. I can’t wait to see them and they are so excited. I should get there in a couple of days I have to drop off this load and my dispatch will get me there on my next run.

I also get to catch up with some old friends while I am there and maybe even see a old girlfriend or two who know I may be able to rekindle an old flame. I have a feeling I am going to love this part of my job I have missed being able to see my family and friends more that once a year.

No work some fun

I have been training and studying so hard I think it’s time for some fun so me and a couple of my friends are going out. We are going to go have a nice dinner and then go to a movie. I really want to see Zero Dark Thirty but everyone else wants to see Django Unchained so I guess that’s what we will go see. I just can’t wait for a night of nothing but fun with all my friends this may be the last time I will be able to go out like this because after school I will have at least a couple of weeks of training over the road and won’t be home for weeks or even months.

I am worried about missing my friends and family and holidays but once I get settled I will try be home for all the important things no job is worth sacrificing whats really important.

Holidays

I can’t wait to go home to see the family for the holidays. I am leaving early from school, so I can do my shopping and be able to get it all done in time. I have to wait to do it there, because taking it all on the plane would cost too much and I don’t want to have to mail it to myself there. It is just easier to shop after I get home.

I am lucky in that I already know what I want to buy for my family. They are relatively easy to shop for anyway. For my nieces and nephews, I will just go hit up Toys R Us with my sister and let her pick out what they like. There will be jewelry for my mom and sister and my dad is simple to shop for. I just get him whatever new gadgety tool that is out on the market and he is happy. Makes for an easy shopping trip. Yay for me!
