Projects

Since the good weather is returning, we have been thinking about doing some more work to our home. There are a million little things that need to be done and we are taking care of them one by one. One item we know that needs to be replaced was our Mailboxes. We have two of them, one for us and one for the people who rent our basement. Anyway, the boxes we have are falling apart.

The problem we had was finding a place to purchase one. There are a few stores around that have them, but they certainly looked cheap and were not in the style we wanted. We decided to look online and found that we could choose from hundreds of Residential Mailboxes that were available. There was a site called mailboxixchange.com that offered the kinds of boxes we were looking for.

We were happy to find one that we liked and ordered it right away. I also thought that I might mention the site to my boss. This site has a number of Commercial Mailboxes that we could use at our office. It’s good to keep our office looking good and a new mailbox would certainly go a long way towards doing that. I love the coming of summer and the feeling that all these projects will be done before winter sets in again!

Congress Freezes Pay!

I was glad to hear that members of congress had the good sense to forego voting themselves a pay raise. The congress rejected an automatic cost of living increase that would have taken effect on January 1. Don’t worry; they still bring home about $174,000 dollars per year which is a pretty good chunk of change.

There will be an election come November and I am sure that no congressman wants to explain a pay raise to his supporters. I hope the money they would spend on themselves will be put to a better use. Maybe we could make a payment on the debt we owe!!

Information

I work for a very large company. We have branch offices all over the world. One item that recently came up that was unusual was the discovery that one of our offices in the U.K. had asbestos. Asbestos is a material that is known to cause health problems and the matter needed to be addressed quickly. Our company puts the health of our workers first and we wanted the matter to be resolved. Unfortunately, we knew little about what asbestos was and why it was dangerous.

It turns out that asbestos used to be a very useful product. It had properties that made it easy to use in many different ways. It was used in the manufacturing of many products such as insulation, fireproofing, and water proofing. The problem was that no one realized that airborne fibers that were inhaled into the lungs could cause lung cancer. Once we learned more about asbestos, we knew that asbestos removal was the only option to protect our employees.

One thing we did to improve our knowledge of the subject was to inform ourselves about it. We found a website called asbestosregisters.co.uk. The site provided us with an explanation of the subject and the many options there were to deal with it. They had information on inspection, identification, and asbestos removal practices. It felt good to know that the situation could be dealt with successfully and our workers would have a safe place to do their business.

What we liked most about the site was their reliance on professionals to deal with the problem. They connected us with people who are licensed and reputable in the field of asbestos removal. We were able to get quotes from these companies and find the ones that best suited our needs. Thanks to the wisdom we found on this website, we are now well on our way toward getting the problem resolved. I recommend this site to anyone with a similar problem and anyone who may be interested in the subject.

Picasso

Christie’s has done it again. The auction house is once again home to a record setting auction sale. This time it was Picasso’s “Nude, Green Leaves and Bust” that fetched over $106 million dollars. There is no information on who the over the phone buyer was but he or she must be doing well!

The painting features a depiction of Marie-Therese Walter. She is reputed to be Picasso’s mistress. She was a subject of many of his works. The work was done in 1932 has moved from place to place before being bought at the auction. It’s good to know that the painting will have a new home and I hope the new owner will be able to display it from time to time.

Goals are good

There are many people I know who just seem to struggle with their weight. I am one of those people. While I always try to eat right and exercise, I find that my weight slips away from me and I’ve gained a few more pounds. With summer coming on, I was hoping to tackle the problem in a more successful way. I went online to see what I could find out about the subject and had some good results.

One area where I really need to improve upon is the amount of exercise I get. I have tried many programs but have never found the best workout for me. I was lucky to find a site that had thousands of workout plans and have made many improvements to my workout routine. Now that I have that taken care of, I thought I would take a few more steps towards getting fit.

It’s always good to measure progress. I think it’s smart to set goals as it gives you incentive to do better. Knowing where you started is a key part of success. That’s why I used a BMI calculator to find my body mass index. I also found a useful tool called the body fat calculator. This information will help me measure how far I’ve come in my quest for better health. Now I feel confident that I will reach the goals I’ve set for myself. I hope to walk on the beach and feel good about the way I look soon!

Hacker Convention

This week in Dallas is sure to be interesting. There will be a convention of people who all want to work on the problem of international hacking. There will be representatives from many countries including China, India, Japan, and the European Union. Called the Worldwide Cybersecurity Summit, the convention is sponsored by the EastWest Institute think tank.

The organizers hope to address issues that all countries face. Computer hacking can be used as a weapon in warfare and cause great disruptions. Finding ways to deal with this issue will be tough, but may be worth it all in the end.

End of an Era

It’s finally time to say goodbye! Sony announced their decision to stop producing 3.5-inch floppy disks. The disks were a very popular way of storing information for many years. Unfortunately, newer technologies have taken over and the floppy is no longer needed. It will be missed by millions of sentimental people.

There is still hope for those who may have a box or two of floppies in their closet. I do have a floppy drive reader on my computer and would be glad to help anyone who needs to transfer their valuable information to another format. I guess it’s just the way of things that stuff goes out of date. I think I’ll put my floppies in the box I store my 8 track tapes in.

Small Businesses

One of the driving forces in our economy is small business. That’s why I always support them when I can. One way to do that is to give practical advice to a business owner when I can. One area that I know a lot about is the online realm. Doing business online is the latest trend and can support a business if properly done. The only problem is that it can be very difficult for those who are not up to speed on the latest technologies.

One of the most difficult tasks for an online business is setting up a site online. It takes skill as well as the right equipment. That’s why I usually recommend that people use a dedicated server hosting service for their online needs. This allows the business owners to concentrate on business instead of worrying about their site crashing. By utilizing managed hosting solutions they can ensure their site will be running no matter what happens.

For people who are more computer literate, there are other options. Time, money, and space are limited assets. If you already have a server, you may want to think about collocation services. Allowing others to maintain your equipment may be a great idea. It can be a time and money saver for most people. I hope everyone will look into their options and make the best decision possible.

Volcanoes and travel

Europe is still reeling from the volcano that erupted in Iceland. The volcano has been spewing out smoke and ash that has left nearly every airport in Europe closed. The ash presents a threat to planes as it clogs up their engines creating an unsafe condition. This has led to many questions being asked as to the future of air travel in Europe.

Iceland’s volcano could erupt many more times in the future. It could also erupt for long periods of time. This could affect industry as well as health for millions of people. Trains and boats are trying to keep up with the increase in usage as people turn to these modes of travel to get around. I imagine we will have to wait and see what the results are of this travel interruption.

Ground Floor

Since the economy seems to be recovering a bit, people are losing their fear of investing in the stock market again. While we still have a way to go, the signs of positive activity in the market are appearing. This has led many of my friends to begin asking advice on the best way to proceed. I always tell them to take control of their own assets by using the modern technologies that are available.

One good way to make trades or manage your assets is by doing it online. It can be done quickly, cheaply, and securely. Online Trading is the best option for millions of Americans who want to enter the trading world. There are many great sites out there such as firstrade.com that can speed you on your way. They can help you get the most out of assets such as your IRA Accounts. The future is near and you should be a part of it.

For anyone just beginning, I would suggest that knowledge is a key to doing well. There is a lot of good information available and it would be wise to learn all you can before starting. Another strategy would be to use an Online Broker to help you through the rough spots. No matter how you go, there is a lot of money to be made and getting in on the ground floor is necessary. I hope you don’t delay!
