Another Christmas morning

The mood is good around our house today. It took a little longer to get everyone up than I expected, but we finally started to unwrap the presents. After all the small talk and comparisons of our gifts, I think that everyone is happy with their gifts. I got the usual pants, ties, and belts and everyone got their usual toys and electronics.

Soon we will all gather in the kitchen and start the typical Christmas meal. We are having turkey with all the trimmings and my favorite deviled eggs. We are blessed this year as everyone is healthy and were able to gather at the house. We got some phone calls from those who were not able to attend. I hope your Christmas was as pleasant as ours and I wish you a merry day.

Gold is gold

The market for gold has been great over the last several years. The bad economy as well as world unrest has led many investors to invest their money in gold. The price has remained high since many people are interested in keeping their money safe. Gold has traditionally been a stable market.

Lately, some have been fooled into believing that gold is no longer a safe way to invest money. I believe that they are wrong. I think that those who sell gold because of short-term reasons are wasting an opportunity to make a lot of money as well as being assured that they will have wealth when all other forms of money sink.

A shocker

The Detroit Lions are in a tough place right now. It seems that one of their players made a bonehead play and now they are paying the price. Ndamukong Suh decided to kick an opposing player at a key point in a game. This play cost the Lions points on the board and a chance to excel in their division.

The worst part is that the Lions will now have to do without their star player for at least two games. He is being suspended until the two game limit is reached. This will definitely have an impact on the lion’s season.

I am not the police

One way that things can go wrong is when many people share the same space. This happens in our break room at work and it has been a mess. It seems that a few things have come up missing and it is my job to solve the problem. Talk about your tough assignments! I sure cannot afford to play policeman all day. Anyway, I think I have come up with a great solution to the problem.

I am considering purchasing some small lockers for the break room area. This will allow employees to lock up their things when they are working. I found a site that sells office lockers and I am very interested in getting some. I think it will be good for everyone. When an employee gets here in the morning, they can put their stuff in a locker and not have to worry about it being lost or stolen.

I am about to sell the idea to my boss and I think it will go through. He is a reasonable man and the cost is not excessive. We can have them installed quickly and easily and I believe it everybody will like the added security. This is just one less problem I have to deal with and that makes my job a little easier.

Heading for Mars again

NASA is at it again. They are planning a new mission to land on the planet Mars. They are sending a rover nicknamed Curiosity to land on the planet and to send back data about it. The rover cost about $2.5 billion dollars and is expected to make the nine month trip as soon as it is able to launch.

The really bad part is that scientists are unsure whether or not the trip will be successful. There have been many failures with mars orbiters since the program has started. There is some hope though. Due to previous successful missions, scientists have learned many lessons. I wish them good fortune.

A little art

This is the time of year when we need to start looking for some of the Christmas gifts we plan to give out. Since I tend to order many of my gifts from the internet, I like to ensure that I will receive them on time. The problem is deciding what to get each person. This year, I found another site I like. It’s called Shepardfaireyprints.com. They have a lot of what is called shepard fairey art. It’s a neat site and a great place to find a present for someone.

The thing I like about this site is that you can purchase whole collections of shepard fairey art. If you don’t want to go that far, you can just select any of the shepard fairey prints they have. All in all, it’s a great way to find a good present at a great price and you don’t even have to go to the mall to get it. You can have it delivered right to your home.

I like scanning the internet to see what I can find. I think I scored a home run with this site this year. I am sure that more than a few of my friends and relatives will be receiving a little artwork for Christmas this year. So keep an eye on your mailbox.

Dropping gas prices

I was certainly glad to find that putting gas in my car is not the chore it used to be. Due to many factors, the price of gas has been dropping over the last several weeks. This has helped my budget at just the time I needed it.

The holidays are looming and I need every penny I can get. I just can’t figure out why the price of gas changes so often. I feel we are being cheated somehow but I don’t know what to do.

Bailing someone out

Every once in a while I get caught up in a situation that is not of my own making. This happened when an employee of mine was supposed to be taking care of a problem but failed to do so. This left me holding the bag and I had to rectify the situation. The whole thing started with a bathroom in one of the new locations we are building.

The issue was over hand dryers. It seems that no one would make the decision to use them instead of paper towels. Finally, the building was going up and arrangements needed to be made to install them. I know our company wanted electric hand dryers as they save energy and help protect the environment. I knew I would be able to save many trees by making this decision. I had to rush plans to the builders to have them installed.

Lucky for me, I found a company online that could send the dryers right away. We ended up using dyson hand dryers and they worked out fine. It was good that I caught the problem on time. The building is now up and running and our employees and customers are enjoying the new bathroom we put in. I just hope the rest of my employees do better than this one did.

The postal service

One thing that made America great is the U.S. post service. The ability for the average American to send and receive mail at a very low cost helped make our country great. This could be in jeopardy soon as the service is running low on cash. The high cost of labor has drained the service.

Falling revenues are another big problem. With many people now paying bills online and competition from other places, total mail volume is down. We are all looking to the congress to help this service survive for a few more years.

Layaway

One thing that nearly everybody wants is for everyone to have a great Christmas. This usually involves finding the perfect gift for someone who is special in your life. The problem is that some people who find that gift do not have the money to pay for it right away. And so they put the product on layaway.

There are some though who believe that putting a product on layaway can cost you more than is necessary. Due to the fees and interest charged by stores, you can end up paying a lot of money for the product that you purchased. I think this is good information to keep in mind.
