The oil spill in the gulf has had a tremendous impact on the fishermen who make their living there. The price of shrimp has dropped as consumers are afraid that the shrimp are contaminated. Christie’s has done it again. The auction house is once again home to a record setting auction sale. This time it was Picasso’s “Nude, Green Leaves and Bust” that fetched over $106 million dollars. There is no information on who the over the phone buyer was but he or she must be doing well!

The painting features a depiction of Marie-Therese Walter. She is reputed to be Picasso’s mistress. She was a subject of many of his works. The work was done in 1932 has moved from place to place before being bought at the auction. It’s good to know that the painting will have a new home and I hope the new owner will be able to display it from time to time.
