Stuck Behind a School Bus – Ugh!

Now that school is back in session, my drive to work has gotten longer by at least 15 minutes in the mornings. So you would think that I should leave 15 minutes earlier and I will still get to work on time, right? Wrong! If I leave 15 minutes earlier, I end getting stuck behind a school bus. It is stop and go for a very very long time and that 15 minutes gets eaten up by the bus stopping at every corner to pick up kids. And you cannot pass the bus. There is no safe spot on my commute to pass a school bus. By the way, forget about the bus pulling over once in a while to let everyone pass – the bus driver does not give a hoot about the long line of cars behind him that can’t get by.

So now, for me to get to work on time, I have to leave my house 30 minutes earlier than I did over the summer when there were no school buses dragging down traffic. And then I end up arriving at work 15 minutes early. I sure could use that 15 minutes to sleep on some mornings. But no. I am at work early and there is no advantage to getting there early. It’s not like I can leave 15 minutes earlier or even take an extra 15 minutes longer at lunch. It is 15 minutes wasted or gifted to my boss. I’m screwed either way.

Not Happy With Windows 8

Had to buy a new laptop to replace the one that got trashed when my dog trampled it. I had left the laptop on the bed and my dog lost his mind and stomped on the keyboard while trying to get across the bed to run to the door. My fault for leaving the laptop open and on the bed with the dog, but I’m blaming the dog.

Anyway, I found a decent Toshiba laptop on sale for under $300, so I grabbed it up at a local retailer rather than ordering it online and waiting a week for it to arrive UPS. But what I had not considered is that the new computers all come with Windows 8 installed on them. Ugh.

I figured out most of what I needed to know to set up the new laptop. I had to install updates and software, set up the router to get online, and transfer my documents and graphics files from the old laptop.

Once I started using the new laptop, I realized the most annoying problem with the new Windows 8 is that they count on swiping to trigger all the menus and apps. Well, if you are using a touchpad, swiping is part of your everyday use for everything from typing a Word document to playing a quick game. The swiping blanks out your current screen display and replaces it with an app or a menu. Its very annoying and time consuming to have to cancel the swipe and get back to what you were working on.

Right now, I’m frustrated and not impressed with the Windows 8 at all. As far as I’m concerned, Windows 7 was fine. It did the job, we know how to use it and all Microsoft did was fix something that was not broken just for the sake of change. It’s like Microsoft has adopted the Facebook mentality – keep changing things and pissing off your users.

The biggst thing on the road

I love driving something bigger then anything on the road! I had a couple of problems in the beginning but once I got the hang of it I just wanted to keep going in fact I almost missed my exit in my excitement. I did the best on the simulator even though half the people in my class have more experience than me. I can’t wait to get back in the truck but for now we are doing book work to prepare us for the written part of the test. I am nervous about that I was never very good at tests, I guess that’s why I finally quit school. I can’t wait to get out there and see all of the places I’ve always wanted to visit.

A Surprise

I was reading an article today about women drivers. The article stated that contrary to popular belief, most women are better drivers than men. I was quite surprised by this statement. I have spent most of my life believing the opposite. After living through many of my own experiences, I thought that girls were bad drivers. Surprisingly, according to the numbers women are safer drivers than men.

I was also unaware that in many cases, car insurance for women is cheaper. There are companies that actually seek out women drivers in order to get the lowest rates. I always say that the numbers don’t lie and I guess I’ll have to change my opinion. There are also other ways for to obtain cheap car insurance for women. By taking advantage of discounts and enrolling in driver education courses, women can get insurance that is very affordable.

I guess the battle between the sexes will go on for awhile longer, but I am certainly disheartened to find that men are on the bottom end of this deal. I will be glad to know that at least my wife will be able to afford the coverage she needs while driving around. I guess the insurance companies haven’t seen her driving yet!

Shaking my head

Sometimes I just have to shake my head and walk away. At work there is one employee that this happens often with. I have never met someone who is so obviously clueless in my life until him. I cannot understand how people can walk through life with such a lack of common sense and still be alive. It makes it even worse that somehow this person made it to a supervisory position and others have to answer to him. I am just thankful that he is not my boss. Unfortunately I am not his superior either, or I would have gotten rid of him. I wish I knew why they hired someone so unbelievably stupid.

Work work work

We have been so busy at work lately, I don’t know if I am coming or going. I don’t remember us ever being this busy before. We have an amazing amount of new accounts to handle and may even have to hire some new people to help with it all. HR is thinking about some temps, but I think we may need some permanent people as well. I guess we shall see.

Looking good

Since my brother and I recently purchased a small apartment building, we have been going through a lot trying to get it ready for renters. The building was in shambles when we got it and we have been working to fix it up. We have had our ups and downs but we are nearly complete. It has been a trial for the both of us but we seem to be on the right track.

The building has four units and that means four times the trouble. For example we have bought four water heaters as well as four heating units. Everything is compounded by four and that has added up to a lot of work. There was one bright side though. We were able to find a great cluster mailbox at ApprovedClusterMailboxes.com. It has saved us a lot of time and trouble and it looks great in front of the building. It has been one of the bright spots.

I am glad that some of the little things went right during this endeavor. It has been a struggle but with help from great companies like the one above, we have come through alright. I am sure that our venture will produce the results we are looking for. After all we have gone through I surely hope it does.

Stay confident

I hear so many people talking about how tough it is to stay afloat with the economy the way it is. I know more than a few people who need debt relief. People are really struggling and it is hard to keep up with all the commitments we made when times were better. I understand that good people can quickly find themselves in need of a helping hand to deal with their finances.

The good news is that there are ways to reduce the worry over financial matters. There are many companies out there that can help the typical person with debt reduction. They have proven tactics that work time after time. Take advantage of their knowledge and this will help you feel better about your situation and give you the confidence you need to move forward.

The economy will surely improve in the future. While it may seem that we are in a down period now, these things have a way of turning around. All we have to do is keep fighting and stay afloat until the good times return. For those who keep their heads in the game, better times will return. I am doing my best to do so and I hope everyone else is as well.

Building a customer base

One of the greatest things about my company that nobody knows is that we serve customer’s world wide. We don’t discriminate against anyone and we serve everyone with equal gusto. The problem is that we sometimes need to use translation services to serve our customers adequately. We are glad that it is so easy to do so.

We have a secret weapon called accurate language services. This service allows us to communicate with just about anyone in the world no matter what language they speak. We are still able to buy and sell our products no matter where they originate or might be sent to. It has made us a lot of money over the past several years and we hope to continue the trend.

I would suggest that anyone who is planning to get into business should find a localization and translation company to help them build the market they deserve. It is only right to help anyone who needs our products be able to order them and get the same great service that we are known for. The world is a large place and we plan to help everyone and that starts by being able to communicate with them. I would recommend this service to everyone who is interested in building their base of customers.

Informed Decision

I am in the process right now of comparing prices on different tv plans. I like to do my research before making a decision to go with a certain company over another. Of course, I want the least expensive option, but only if the service and selection is good. That is usually the fine print that you have to really dig to discover. I’ve found a lot of information online to help in my research. My wife is pressuring me to just go ahead and pick a company and go with it because she wants to get the tv set up quickly. I do too, of course, but I like to make informed decisions, and that can’t always be done on a set time table. I think it’s because the kids are out for summer right now, and they are driving her bonkers. I told her she should just go rent movies in the meantime, but for some reason, she was not satisfied with that option. It’s short term, though, and I explained that to her.
