Sorry No Connection

So yesterday, I hopped on to my computer to post a bunch of pictures from the holiday weekend and I couldn’t get my dsl to work.  I tried everything to get it fixed, resetting the router, restarting my computer, and even unplugging every cable and then plugging them back in.  Nothing worked.

I ended up having to call my internet service provider. I sat on hold for some time before I found out that my entire city had the internet down. The customer service technician told me he wasn’t sure what caused the outage and he didn’t know when we would have our service back.

I waited a few hours and called the company back to see if things were in working order again.  The guy I spoke to kept asking me a bunch of questions about the lights on my router.  They all just kept blinking and I still had no service. Apparently my internet should have been working again but I was just a lucky winner and got to have mine not work for an additional 2 hours.

Eventually, I got my service back.  However, when I started to upload images online everything went REALLY slow.  It reminded me of the days when I had dial-up internet.  I never thought I was going to get all of the images uploaded.  It literally took 2 and a half hours to upload 50 images.  Normally that would only take a few minutes.  I probably should have called it a night and tried again today but, I wanted to have it done before I went to work today to show to my friends some of the great shots I captured.

Always Room for Kindness

What is it about today that has brought out all the rude people? I feel like no one wants to do a simple kindness for others any more. It’s not that hard to be friendly and gracious toward others. Both the person you help and you benefit – and even the people around you who witness the kindness benefit.

I encourage everyone to do something nice for another person today. A simple smile and “Hello” to someone you pass on the street, picking up a piece of litter and disposing of it, saying something nice to the clerk behind the register or the person in line behind you. There are endless opportunities to do nice things if you just make a little effort.

Thanks for at least considering it – and an extra thank you if you put my suggestion to use today. And tomorrow. 🙂

Summer Reruns

Television has always been a part of my life. I watched cartoons on Saturday mornings as a kid, I was allowed to watch some comedy shows at night after my homework was completed, and then I watched movies and some drama shows as I got older. I realize that TV is a relatively new medium. I read somewhere that is was created in the 1940’s but that most American households could not watch anything because there were no networks and no shows being broadcast because of the War. In the 1950’s, a lot of Americans bought their first TV sets and some shows, especially the evening news began broadcasting.

What a long way we’ve come from the 1950’s to today, with cable and satellite and movies being downloaded over the internet to be watched on laptops, tablets and even phones! And yet, we still have very short seasons of new shows to watch and then a long drought of reruns and nothing interesting to watch all summer. When does the programming department catch up with modern life and change the length of the season to something the viewers want?

Crack!

GAH!!!! My shiny IPhone now has one hideous crack running diagonally across the screen.  I dropped it as I was getting out of the car.  It hit the pavement and I shuddered. I’ve dropped the darn thing plenty of times in the past.  This time was different.  I picked it up and looked and saw a tiny crack… the kind a rock might make in a windshield.  It was just a little spot.

I was soo bummed as I worked really hard to keep it in nice condition.  Well, now that I am home I looked at it again and that tiny spot turned into a huge crack.  My phone doesn’t seem to want to work just right when I touch the screen.  I bought that 2 year protection coverage and hope that it covers this.  With my luck I bet I’ll have to pay to get it fixed.  They’ll probably say that the coverage isn’t for neglect.

I can’t stand looking at this huge crack.  I hope I can get it fixed fast!

Pet Peeves

Two sheets of toilet paper, a sip of milk, the heels of bread… When someone leaves these behind it always drives me nuts.  Leaving the last little bit of something for someone else to take care of is one of my biggest pet peeves.  To me it just says that the person is lazy and inconsiderate.  I mean really?  What are you going to do with a tablespoon of milk or two sheets of toilet paper? I suppose if I was a man and I cut myself saving I MIGHT have a use for a small piece of tissue but not the few drops of milk.

It’s not that hard to change the roll of toilet paper when you get down to the end of the roll.  It’s just as easy to toss out the empty milk carton as it is to put it back in the fridge.  Stop being lazy people and consider how you would feel if you went to get a bowl of cereal and only found a few drops left in the container.

Take responsibility for your actions and be considerate of others.  Remember the “Golden Rule” to treat other people how you would like to be treated.

Some Jokes Are Not Funny

Today is April Fool’s Day and I know the sophomoric guys at work are going to be playing jokes on everyone all day long.  This is the day when you really do have to watch your back, or there might be a piece of paper taped to your shirt that says, “Kick Me!”

Last year someone set a cup of water on top oft he door to the kitchen, so that when someone came through the door, the cup tipped over and splashed on an unsuspecting victim.  It was not very funny when it splashed on a company guest being taken to the kitchen for a cup of coffee before his business meeting.

Weather…

Well it’s starting to get cold.  I hate winter!  There is no life outside; everything is dead and freezing! I am a person of the sun!  I think I am going to move to the beach!

Close it now

I see that congress has blocked the President’s plan to close the base at Guantanamo Bay Cuba.  I say close it and send the terrorists to a prison in the Atric.  They would be happy to be on a beach in Cuba where it is never cold; the sun shines almost all of the time.  I for one am tired of providing comfort to people who want to kill all Americans.  Give them a nice warm grave and do away with anyone who hates us that much.

Dress code

The very worst thing the Nashville School District has ever done besides hiring Pedro Gomez was when he started this school uniform crap a couple of years ago. It is just a way to make parents who can not afford it to buy special clothes for their school age kids. A parent who has 4 or 5 kids in the school system spends a lot of money on nothing but school uniforms that look stupid.  These new uniforms make it easy to pick on kids who can not afford new uniforms every 6 weeks or so.  The uniforms do wear out and get torn when the kids play and kids will play hard.  Let’s spend this extra money on important things like food and paying the bills.
