Mom Jeans

I’m finally starting to get my figure back from having babies and it feels good to pull on a pair of jeans and realize that they are too big. I have a drawer full of jeans that I used to wear, so I tried on several pairs and found 2 that fit me nicely right now. The only problem with these two pairs is that they are non name brand jeans. I got them at either WalMart or KMart – I don’t remember which one. They fit, but they don’t look as stylish as I would like.

Maybe that sounds spoiled or conceited, but when I’m getting my shape back, I want to show that off a little. Not to the point of guys whistling when I walk by. More like, someone I haven’t seen for a while seeing me and saying “Wow! You’ve lost weight!”or “You look great!” and know that they mean it.

Internet Music

Sometimes when I am on the internet I log onto a free music streaming web site and listen to music while I work. There are some nice radios stations that share their music online, and there is a site called Pandora.com that is very interesting.

The  idea behind Pandora is to expose you to new music and new artists that are similar to ones that you already like. That is an interesting way to decide what they play and I like it. There have been some new artists that I would not know about if it was not for Pandora playing them on one of my channels.

Another handy feature on Pandora is that you can get a short biography of the artist whose song is currently playing or you can click to see the song lyrics. And if you want to buy anything that you hear, they make it easy to link through the Pandora site to do that, too.

Kid Songs on VHS

We went to a yard sale last weekend and came across a bunch of rally nice kids toys and some old VHS tapes with kids shows and kids songs on them.

The toys were old wooden puzzles and a few My Little Pony dolls for only 50 cents each. The puzzles cost almost ten dollars brand new, so I grabbed up 6 of them like they were gold.

They only wanted 25 cents for each tape! I couldn’t believe it! I know everyone is using DVDs now, but the kids can play with an old VCR that we keep in the living room and I don’t have to worry about them scratching the expensive DVDs.

All together, it was a great day for bargains and we have some new things to do on the next rainy day.

Pearly Whites

This afternoon I had a terrific lunch.  It was Mexican food and I always help myself to tons of chips and salsa.  However, as I chowed down on the crunchy tortillas chips I felt a crack and then a sharp pain.  I bit down wrong on one of the chips that must have been cooked a little long because it was extra crunchy.  I chipped one of my front teeth.  I called my general dentist right away to see if I could get in.  I got his emergency line.

One of the on call staff called me back and said I could be seen at the office on the other side of town in about 30 minutes.  I hopped in my car and drove through town to find the little office that I’d never been to.  Apparently this was the office that was used by a cosmetic dentist that is also in my regular dentist’s practice.  There were brochures for teeth whitening and braces in the waiting room.

I ended up waiting in the front for the dentist to set up for about 10 minutes.  Once I got back he did an x-ray and then got right to work.  It only took about 30 minutes to do all of the work.  I was surprised.  He put some kind of paste on my tooth that hardened and matched the color of my tooth.  I think he said it was bonding.  Anyway, he also told me that if I wanted to get a crown later that it might be a better option since I have to use that tooth a lot when I’m eating.  I made an appointment to go get checked out again in a month.

Kid friendly snacks

Growing up I had raisins, grapes, apples, and oranges.  Well, I probably had most every fruit available as long as it was om sale and not that expensive.  I also had cheese and crackers.  I loved the goldfish crackers.

Anyway, I’m trying to come up with kid friendly snacks for my kids and their play group.  I want the food to be fun and interactive.  I thought about cutting cheese up into fun shapes or even doing the same with fruit.  Melons and pineapple will work great for fun shapes.  I bet I can make some of those fancy fruit flowers that you can order online instead of regular flowers.  I could give each girl her own little bouquet of tasty flowers.

I’d like to try fun finger sandwiches for them also.  I did find a neat collection of character faces made out of food when I looked up bento box lunches.   Maybe each child could bring a bento box and I could have them build their own tasty treats.  I’ll have to talk to the other parents in the playgroup to get their thoughts and opinions.  I just want the next time I host the group to be tons of fun with a fun and fantastic snack.

Pretty In Pink

Last night I was watching Grey’s Anatomy reruns.  I just love the hot pink scrubs that some of the nurses wear.  They look so comfy and cute!  OH!  That gives me an idea.  I think I’ll be a nurse for Halloween this year.  Scrubs would be REALLY comfortable to wander around town in with the kids as they go trick-or-treating from door to door.  Not only would it be an easy costume, I would actually wear it again.  I could use them as lounge wear around the house.  I don’t think I’d see myself wearing a witch, smurf, or pumpkin costume again on a regular basis.

I know http://www.blueskyscrubs.com/ has a nice variety scrubs for sale.  I bet I could get my entire costume from them.  Maybe I’ll even go so far as to order a matching hat.  I know the hat I probably wouldn’t wear again but it adds to the overall look.  I guess the only other things I’ll need are some nice comfy work shoes and of course I’ll need a stethoscope to round it all out.

I can’t wait!  Only a few months away.  Now if only it were this simple for my kids to decide what they want to be for Halloween I’d be set.

Summer Heat

The heat here is really killing me.  I feel like I’m melting the moment I walk outside of the house.  I feel horrible for my dog.  She’s a black lab German shepherd mix.  Her hair is almost all black.  We have it cut short for the summer but she still gets really hot if she stays outside in the sun for very long.

I can’t wait for it to cool off.  I can’t even take my kids to the park in the afternoon for fear of them getting burnt on the playground equipment.  If we go at all we have to go early in the morning before the heat has a chance to start cooking everything and bringing it all up to scorching temperatures.

I do love the summer, but I wish the heat was a lot milder.  Oh well, I guess I’ll enjoy the time to have popsicles and eat ice cream while it’s around.  Before I know it it will be fall and be getting chilly.

Time For Some New Numbers

My neighbor Susan ordered one of those new fancy address plaques.  She got one with her family name on it and it’s absolutely beautiful.  It definitely gives the front of her house a new and updated look.  It’s made of a black metal with ornate scroll work coming out from the top and sides.  The numbers and words are in a lovely copper tone and in a very classic, old-fashioned style font.

Honestly, I’m a little jealous.  All we have on the front of our house are our address numbers.  They aren’t even that pretty, just plain gold numbers in a standard, boring font. It’s probably Arial.  They wouldn’t look so plain if they were in a different font or maybe textured.

I think I want to order one of the house plaques like Susan got.  Sheesh, listen to me… it sounds like I’m trying to keep up with my neighbors now.  I’m not honest, I just really adore her new plaque and think that our house deserves an updated look too.  After all, it would go great with the new flower boxes we just installed.

Skinned Up Knees

My daughter had a blast playing at the park this afternoon.  She LOVES the swings.  Unfortunately, she fell off the swings today and skinned up her knees pretty bad.  It reminded me of when I was in fourth grade and went to a school that had gravel on the playground instead of grass or sand. I fell off of the merry go round one time and landed in the gravel.  I had to pick little rocks out of my elbows and knees.  It was awful!  I’m just happy that her knees will heal and she won’t have the scars that I do from skinning up my knees.

Swimming at the Y

We had such a fantastic time at the Y today!  We took the girls to the Y to go swimming.  I stuffed all our things in one of the lockers while my husband went and found us a nice group of loungers by the pool. I absolutely adore the kiddie pool they have.  My girls can wade around and the water never gets too deep.  The girls splashed around for what seemed like hours.

There was another family that brought their 3 kiddos and they had a great time with our girls.  They tossed a ball back and forth. Their oldest accidentally hit it soo hard that it went under the set of aluminum bleachers at the end of the pool deck.  My husband crawled underneath them and got it back for the kids.

After swimming and splashing for awhile,  I went back to the small locker to get the little insulated cooler  that had our lunch in it. We had a picnic out on the grass.  The weather was perfect.  We had turkey sandwiches,  fresh fruit salad, and I made us some yummy chocolate chip cookies for dessert.  We really enjoyed our afternoon together as a family.  I can’t wait to do it again.  I’m bummed that summer is almost over for most of us.
