The Internet’s Birthday

Have you ever wondered what is the official birthday of the internet? There is a set date but it’s not called the birthday. Its called the Internet Enoch.

I asked a tekkie friend if he knew, and he had to go look it up. Turns out the date is January 1, 1970. I never knew that but you might enjoy having this bit of trivia up your sleeve some day.

Spell Check

Almost everything has some sort of spell check and correction. It really comes in handy if you communicate with people who are highly educated or for business correspondence. Although we are a casual society, there is still a need for proper spelling and grammar. I try to make sure that I spell people’s names correctly, too. I think everyone cares about having their name spelled right and that is something they notice quickly if you spell it wrong.

Worthless Coupons

About once a month, sometimes more often, I get an email from GoDaddy about saving money on domain names. Now, I only have a couple of domain names and it really does not cost very much to keep them registered with an annual renewal. But I’m all about saving money when I can. It all adds up!

So I tried to use the last coupon that GoDaddy sent me in my email last week and supposedly good for the rest of this month, promising a 20% savings. When I tired to use it, it said I wasn’t qualified to use the discount. I tried the coupon code, I tried using other links on their site, and I finally had to call their tech support people. Turns out that the coupon code did me no good – I got a better discount without having to do anything on their site except check out. What a great waste of time and huge frustration to me to deal with all of that – all for nothing.

Video Games for Rent

Just as I was about to give up on finding a place to rent video games, I hear that Redbox will be carrying them in addition to the DVDs that they rent for $1 a night. That is great news. I love the Redbox locations and the price is more than fair. I hope they have games for all the different platforms. I like the Playstation 3 the best and those are the games I want to rent.

Not me!!!

This is a new roller coaster in Ohio.  I don’t know about you but there is no way in heaven’s name that I would ever get on that thing.  Just look at these pictures and you’ll see why.  The last picture tells it all!!!

Rollercoaster

Rollercoaster II

Rollercoaster III

See what I mean!!!  There is no way possible to get me on that thing.

Nothing like a geek when you need one

I know that some people take offense to the term ‘Geek’ but I sure don’t see why.  After all, if you are a Geek, chances are you make a lot of money or have the potential to make a lot of money anyway.  I would much rather be a ‘Geek’ than any of the other names kids call each other.  Well, here’s one Geek you will definitely want on you side if you are looking for web hosting.  They have done most or all of the work for you so that saves you time, and lots of it.  By the time it would take for you to find out the information they already give you on this one site, you would probably be so mixed up that you wouldn’t remember which one was the best for what.  I would be anyway.

If you’re looking for a dedicated server, they’ll let you know who is the best.  One things for sure, I wouldn’t even know where to start looking for one of those because I don’t even know what that is.  That’s one of the reasons I keep my own personal computer ‘Geek’ around.  He knows more about computers and the Internet than I would ever be able to learn.  That’s one of the ‘joy’s of youth’ you know.

Anyway, did you know that you could even find green hosting?  It’s true.  You all know that ‘Going Green’ is the huge thing now and how in the world a web site host can be ‘Green’ is beyond me but I think that’s wonderful.  When I need a new host, I think I’ll got with a green one to.  After all, we all gotta do what we gotta do for our planet since we’re the ones that messed it up in the first place.

Dating just ain’t what it used to be!

Back when I was a young lady, you would go to a local function, meet a guy, and he would maybe call you sometime through the week.  Now the only local functions there are it seems are at the unemployment office.  You can’t even go to church to meet someone.  Some of the young people here at work told me I needed to find someone to date or a new friend. I told them I have plenty of friends thank you very much.  Well it seems that’s not the kind of friends they meant.  I haven’t dated in years so what makes them think I would want to start now.

They even told me I needed to maybe check out an online dating service like Perfect Match.  Me go online to find a date?  They must be out of their minds but then they told me about eHarmony and how they really try to match you with someone that is right for you.  They said that there is even a dating site called Chemistry.com.   The best thing they told me was to check out the site where they tell you all about all of these sites so you can choose the one or two that you think you just might find Mr. Right.  Isn’t technology amazing?

See what I just got

When I’m off work and relaxing at home, the last thing I want is to be stuck inside or most of all, stuck at my computer desk.  I like moving about.  I like writing my blog and what ever else I need to be doing on my computer but I need a change of scenery from time to time too.  I guess I just can’t sit still that long.

Well I found the perfect solution.  It’s one of those Netbooks, you know, a mini-laptop.  It’s the perfect thing for me to take out in my garden and sit on my swing enjoying the day while I’m still able to do what needs to be done on the computer.  Check this out and you might want one too!!

The “HE” that appears in the Asus Eee PC 1000HE model name might stand for “Holy Enhancement!” This model, which bears only a passing resemblance to last year’s Eee PC 1000, improves on everything from the keyboard to the CPU. And besides losing some unsightly girth, the 1000HE has a svelte new price of just $400.

The Asus Eee PC 1000HE runs on Intel’s 1.66GHz Atom N280 CPU. Most netbooks that appeared late last year used the Atom N270 CPU, which runs at a lower frequency (1.6GHz) and has a slower front-side bus speed (533MHz instead of the N280’s 667MHz). The effect of those differences, however, was minimal. Our test unit earned a mark of 35 in WorldBench 6, an average score for a netbook.

This netbook is one of my current favorites. Considering that it sells for as little as $380, it is well worth checking out.

XML Contest

Well one of the boys that works for me was asking if he could use the computer here at work for some sort of contest he heard about in school.  It’s a programming contest. It’s open to anyone from professionals to students and he wants to get in on it. All he has to do is take a little quick quiz online and you don’t even have to have any experience in XML or database to complete the quiz.

There are five different contests that you can be awarded prizes for and recognition for too.  One is a video contest, a gadget contest, a query contest, a ported app contest 1 and an XML 2 contest.  Well if anyone can win something it will be this boy.

Looking for a boat lift?

Living as close to water as we do here in New Orleans, anyone that has property on the water has a boat lift. It’s almost necessary when it comes to the smaller storms that come through here. But if there’s a bigger one, then most people look for Boat Storage. It’s not a bad idea either with some of the hurricanes we get from time to time. Unfortunately even if your boat was in a boat storage unit, it didn’t help. Not much did then.  But like I said, if it’s just a small storm, the last thing you want is your boat in the water where it can get damaged by the dock or the rising tide.

Well the best boat lifts there are come from a company that has been in business for over 40 years.  In fact, Marine Travelift also appears at boat shows all over the world, in Helsinki, Finland and Dusseldorf , Germany just to name a few.  Their equipment was also seen in the last America’s Cup race in Spain.  As you all know, the America’s Cup race is one of the most prestigious regattas in sailing. Marine Travelift has had the honor of providing equipment to these teams that invest large sums of money into their sailboats so that has to tell you that they are the best or these teams wouldn’t have them.
