It’s going to be a girl!

My waitress that I told you was expecting is going to have a baby girl.   Isn’t that wonderful!  I can’t wait to have a baby girl around.  She was talking about different names and I told her she should check out this web site to find out what the names mean.  You wouldn’t want to name her something that meant something you didn’t like, ya know what I mean.

She also wondered about different things to do with being pregnant that I couldn’t answer so I recommended this web site to her again and even showed it to her on my computer.  I told her she was welcome to check it out anytime she had a question.  She’s such a sweet girl, in fact she’s the daughter I never had.

Say it isn’t so!!!

I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard this.  See I have been watching this since I can remember and even before it was on television, I listened to it on the radio.  No I’m not telling my age, my mother listened to it when I was a baby so I had to have heard it too.  Say it isn’t so!!!

After 72 years, the soap opera ‘The Guiding Light’ is going off.  I guess someone finally turned the switch off.  Don’t believe me?  Well here’s the proof:

The soap opera “Guiding Light” is switching off after a 72-year run that predates television.

CBS says the show will have its final episode in September. Like most daytime dramas, “Guiding Light” has suffered from declining ratings and CBS is looking for a lower-cost alternative to the hour of programming.

The Guinness Book of World Records has cited it as the longest-running television drama.

It began as a 15-minute serial on NBC Radio in January 1937 and debuted on CBS television in 1952, focusing on the Bauer family of Springfield.

I lost a dear friend

I just found out that one of my closest friends is gone.  She passed away from an aneurysm she suffered at work yesterday.  How can this be?  She was healthy and full of life one second and gone the next.  God only promises us the here and now and nothing more and boy did that hit home yesterday.  With that in mind, we should love each other like there’s no tomorrow because there might not be.  We should tell each other just how much we mean to each other so that no one leaves your life without knowing how much they touched your life.

I still can’t believe she’s gone but I do have many wonderful memories that I find both pain and comfort in right now.  I know that these memories will keep them alive in my heart and mind and in time, they will be a source of pure joy without the pain.  Hold those near and dear to your close!!!

I wish they had this when I was younger

I never had any children and I’m not sure if it’s because I was unable to conceive or if I just didn’t know what I was doing, you know what I mean.  Oh I knew all too well how it was supposed to happen but it never did.  I just wish I had known about this web site when I was younger and I might have learned something about how to help conceive.  It’s possible.

Now that one of my waitresses is expecting, I get to learn more and more about the whole process of being pregnant.  There’s so much I don’t know about pregnancy that most people just take for granted unless you’re the one that’s expecting.  This is her first baby and she was asking me all sorts of questions like how long was she going to have morning sickness.  I don’t know why they call it ‘morning’ sickness when the poor girl is sick on and off all day.

She started asking me these questions because I’m sort of the ‘God Mother’ of all that work for me and I wanted to be able to answer them so I started doing some checking and that’s when I found all sorts of answers for her online.  Thanks to this web site, I can help her to know what just might help with the morning sickness.

Mask

Do you remember the movie ‘Mask?’  It is one of my favorite movies and I haven’t seen it in years.  Well it was just on the other night and I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed watching it again even though I have seen it more times than I can remember.  I have been a huge fan of Cher for years but my favorite actor is also in it.

Sam Elliott is the one man that just floats my boat and all he would have to do is talk to me and I would be in heaven.  Oh he has to at least have that mustache or I can’t watch a movie he’s in.  Sam with facial hair and that voice, oh honey, that’s a MAN!!!  I first saw him in the movie ‘Lifeguard’ and instantly fell in love.  If you’ve never seen either of these movies, please do!!!  Especially if you’re a Sam Elliott fan, they are both well worth it!

Catching wild pigs

Some of you might have gotten this by email just like I did but I thought it was worth putting in my blog for those of you that haven’t ever seen or read it.  It really fits in this day in time I believe.?  But if you feel I’m looking at the situation totally wrong, I honestly want to hear your opinion.

A chemistry professor in a large college had some exchange students in ?the class. One day while the class was in the lab the Professor noticed ?one young man (exchange student) who kept rubbing his back, and ?stretching as if his back hurt. ??The professor asked the ?young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet ?lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his ?native country who were trying to overthrow his country’s government ?and install a new communist government.

In the midst of ?his story he looked at the professor and asked a strange question. He ?asked, ‘Do you know how to catch wild pigs?’ ??The ?professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young ?man said this was no joke. ‘You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable ?place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and ?begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are used to ?coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they ?are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat ?the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used ?to that and start to eat again. You ?continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in ?the last side. The pigs, who are used to the free corn, start to come ?through the gate to eat; you slam the gate on them and catch the whole ?herd. ??Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. ?They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon ?they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they ?have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they ?accept their captivity.

The young man then told the ?professor that is exactly what he sees happening to America. The ?government keeps pushing us toward socialism and keeps spreading the ?free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax ?credit for unearned income, ?tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), ?welfare, medicine, drugs, etc.. While we continually lose our freedoms ?– just a little at a time. ??One should always remember: ?There is no such thing as a free lunch! Also, a politician will never ?provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it yourself.

“A government big enough to give you everything you want, is big enough to take away everything you have” Thomas Jefferson.

Outdoor wear

Believe it or not but I am a bit of a outdoors type lady.  Heck I grew up near the bayou and spent many days and nights there.  I sure wish I had known about Muck Boots then because the swamps are full of muck for sure. The funny thing is they have been around since 1949 but they didn’t have the Internet to help people find things like they do now.  Now don’t think that just because they’re called Muck Boots that they’re something ugly because they have some really cute ones that you can even wear everyday and not just in the muck.  Just check out their web site and you’ll be surprised at what they have.  I sure was.

Surprise on Dancing with the Stars last night

The man that invented Apple computers might be one of the smartest men around but he can’t dance!!  Some people were born to dance and this isn’t one of them but surprisingly enough, he remained on the show after the first elimination.  I was surprised to see that Belinda Carlisle was in the bottom 2 along side of the Apple guy.  I can’t remember his name to save my hiney, sorry Apple guy!!!

Anyway, Belinda Carlisle was the one booted off last night and I thought she was a much, much better dancer than he was.  I have to admit that he is fun to watch because of his sheer thrill of being there but that doesn’t take the place of having the ability to dance.  Oh well, I don’t see him making it past next weeks elimination.

Here’s something I bet you would have never guessed!

My father taught me to shoot a gun when I was a little girl and I still enjoy target practice to this day.  A lady has to be able to take care of herself when she’s alone, you know what I mean?  I have always trusted and bought DeSantis Holsters for my handguns plain and simply because I love the quality and they’re the ones that my father preferred too.  There are several different styles you can get from a shoulder holster to a belt holster.  The leather is not cheap leather either so you can count on them to last a long time.  And yes I do have a permit to carry one.

I’m proud to be American

Our country is in a financial mess, that’s for sure and our standings in the world have been a bit tainted with the mess in Iraq but I’m still proud to be American.  I was born here but of course my ancestors came from other countries.  They came here looking for the American dream and found it.  Living in New Orleans through the mess of hurricane Katrina still hasn’t shaken my love of America.  It might have taken some time to bring New Orleans back but it’s back and proud as ever.

I proudly display my American flag outside of my establishment every day. I also have one displayed inside too. Americans have been known for their ‘grit’ if you will ever since the first settlers landed many years ago.  We fought to have a life and we’re still fighting to have that.  The one thing that sets us apart is the fact that we do welcome anyone to this country to try and find their American dream.  It’s still alive but not as easy to find now but just give us a little more time and we’ll be back stronger than ever.  Just wait and see.  New Orleans did it and the rest of the country will too.
