Special Dinners

A friend of mine was talking about the menu for their Thanksgiving dinner. He said they are buying a turkey, at least 20 pounds and bigger if they can find one. I asked if he has ever had anything else besides turkey for Thanksgiving and he looked shocked.

The truth is that a lot of people have other foods for their Thanksgiving feasts. In San Francisco, the preferred main course is fresh caught Dungeness crab. In New York, I was served quail when dining at a good friend’s family estate.

So, don’t assume that everyone eats turkey.

Competitive Cards

There are card games that are mostly social activities. Like Rummy. That’s a good game for sitting around with 3 or 4 people and playing cards while you chat and sip on a cold drink. But other games are for serious competition.

I know a lot of people who play Bridge, even though it doesn’t make the news like it used to back in the 1960’s. There are a lot of people in Bridge clubs who play regularly, some even once a week for live games and every night online.

I’m thinking about learning how to play and going to a few places that host the games. I hear that the community center is hosting a Bridge Club once a month. It would be nice to get out on a regular basis and see people.

More Than Just Fireworks

grilling

Of course this weekend is all about the Fourth of July fireworks. But it is also about picnics and barbecues. I’m going to firing up the backyard grill and making some potato salad. What are your plans?

Party Hearty!

Mardi Gras this weekend! Let the good times, roll! We need a reason to get dressed up, eat and drink merrily, and enjoy ourselves with parades, music and fun parties!

Happy Birthday, Raymond

A good friend from many years ago is celebrating a big birthday today. Raymond, I think of you often and wish you lived closer so we could get together for fun times like we did back in the day.

Happy, Birthday, Little Buddy. (hehehe)

Happy Halloween Y’all

Well it’s about time for those cute little ones to come knocking on your door in their costumes saying “Trick or Treat” when you answer the door, just hoping for a piece or two……..more like a hand full………..of candy.  What I love more than that is dressing up too and scaring the pants off of those little darlins when they ring the door bell!!!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN Y’ALL!!!!

All women love this

I don’t care how heavy or how skinny a woman is, all women love lingerie.  Well everyone knows that women love clothes so what makes you think that they don’t consider lingerie as clothes?  Well that’s what they are after all.  They just happen to be clothes you wear to bed.  Now even at my age, I still love nice sexy lingerie even if I only wear it for myself.  There’s just something about it that makes me sleep better.  I also have sweeter dreams than I do in flannel.  I’m not a flannel kinda woman.

I always order mine online because of the great selection they have.  Not to mention, they also have Halloween costumes too.  You all know how we love to dress up in costumes down here in New Orleans so these costumes are not like the ones you might buy in a department store.  They’re more for that someone special you might be sharing Halloween with but you gotta love them even if you’re alone.  They carry everything from French Maid costumes to Cheerleader costumes to even Super Hero costumes.  Imagine the fun you could have playing ‘Trick or Treat’ in one of their costumes?  Now I just need someone to ‘Trick or Treat’.

Don’t you love to travel?

Throughout my lifetime, traveling is one of the things I have enjoyed the most.  I have been to Ireland, England, Japan and many more places but the one place I have yet to go is Egypt.  That has been a life long dream.  Why haven’t I been there before now?  That’s a good question so I checked into Egypt holidays to remedy that.  I was surprised just how affordable it was.  I expected to find out is was more than I could afford right now but a holiday in egypt is very reasonable.

All of the trips I’m looking at depart from the UK but that’s okay too because I can visit a cousin I have that lives there.  I could spend a little time with her and then head off for one of many holidays as they say in England.  Now I just have to decide exactly where in Egypt I want to travel.  There are a lot of resorts to choose from like Marsa Alam, Sharm el Sheikh, Luxor, Taba, Hurghada and El Gouna.  Marsa Alam, El Gouna, and Hurghada are all part of the Red Sea Diving holiday package.  That sounds lovely to me except for I’m not much into diving.  Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada both are part of just the Red Sea Holiday.  That suits me better.  They have beautiful beached on the Red Sea plus many Red Sea hotels offering luxury spa and health treatments.  That’s what I’m looking for.  Nothing like taking a holiday and coming home feeling alive and refreshed.  I’ll have to give one of them a try.

This is not good

A friend of mine just called me and told me that a guy he works with was sent home because it seems that he might have been exposed to the Swine Flu over the holiday weekend.  It seems that a little girl tested positive for it after the cookout he attended.  Now everyone that he works with is a bit worried.  I don’t know if he has to have the symptoms to pass it along or just be exposed to pass it along.  Something to think about though.
