Robin Williams in the hospital

I have been a huge fan of Robin Williams since Mork and Mindy.  I think he is a wonderful actor and one of the best comedians of his time.  I have to admit that my all time favorite is Red Skelton though.  He was the greatest that has ever been followed by Bill Cosby but Robin follows them to me.  He’s what MSN said on their site about him.

ET has learned that Robin Williams will postpone his one-man show, and plans to undergo surgery. According to a statement from his rep, the 57-year-old actor and comedian is planning to have surgery for an aortic valve replacement and is postponing his Weapons of Self-Destruction tour.

The statement reads:
“Robin Williams is postponing the remainder of his critically acclaimed one-man show, Weapons of Self-Destruction, to undergo surgery for an aortic valve replacement. The tour is expected to resume in the fall. Previously purchased tickets will be honored once the new dates are scheduled or ticket holders can contact their place of purchase for refunds.”Williams also sends a message to his fans, thanking them for their unwavering support.

He says:
“I’m so touched by everyone’s support and well wishes,” said Williams. “This tour has been amazing fun and I can’t wait to get back out on the road after a little tune-up.”

The Weapons of Self-Destruction tour is set to resume in the fall.

Nothing better than a good wrist watch

Back when I was young, a good time piece was every bit as important as any piece of jewelry anyone could wear.  My father carried a pocket watch and I loved that thing.  In fact, I have it and it’s one of my most treasured time pieces I have.  I still have the very first watch my father gave me back when I was 16 years old.  I couldn’t have asked for anything better or anything that made me feel like I was finally grown.

Now a good watch still carries a lot of value to it but not quite like it did back them.  I still have a thing for Wrist Watches and if you could look into my jewelry box, you would see. I think I have about 8 of them and that’s not counting my fathers pocket watch.  I have fancy watches for when I’m feeling particularly fancy.  Then I have my everyday watch too.  It’s real easy to reach thewatchery.com. Best Mardi Gras in a long time

Well this year has been about the best Mardi Gras we have had in a long time.  It was wonderful seeing all of the people coming back to New Orleans.  I guess people are finally ready to start coming back like they used to.  I can’t say as I blame them for staying away like they did.  Heck we lost a lot of locals with the mess we went through but the celebration is back.

Just look at all of the wonderful people with their smiling faces enjoying Mardi Gras like they used to.  I must say it has brought a smile to my heart to see them come back again.

I have a birthday coming

Some of my friends want to throw me a birthday party to celebrate my……………..well my birthday.  A southern lady never tells her age.  I’ll just say I have been around the block a couple of times and seen the top of the hill.  How’s that?

Anyway, they were wanting to do a theme type birthday party.  You know how much we love throwing theme parties in New Orleans so it shouldn’t be a surprise that they want a theme birthday party for me.  I love the 60’s and should have been a flower child but we won’t talk anymore about that.  That’s what would make the perfect theme for a birthday party for me.

The girls could all dress in long dresses with flowers in their hair and the guys wear old torn jeans with army jackets and those great loose fitting shirts they used to wear back then.  The music, well it has to be the psychedelic music from then like the Iron Butterfly and Cream………….all those great songs, Jefferson Airplanes ‘White Rabbit’.  But NO DRUGS!!!!!!!!!

Did you hear about this dancer?

I know some people look down their noses at Exotic dancers but some young women are doing the best they can to support their children and after all, from what I hear, it does pay very well.  When I read this, it absolutely horrified me that someone would do that to someone else.

LOS ANGELES – An exotic dancer was set on fire outside the nightclub where she worked early Thursday, burning more than 60 percent of her body, police said. They were searching for two suspects. A woman and a man called the 27-year-old dancer outside around 1 a.m. and then doused her with a flammable liquid next to the Babes & Beer sports club in the San Fernando Valley, police said.

Police identified the suspects as Rianne Celine Theriault-Odom, 27, and Nathaniel Marquis Petrillo, 22, both frequent patrons of the club. They were being sought for investigation of attempted murder, police said. “Given the condition of this victim, they may be responsible for ultimately her murder,” Deputy Chief Michel Moore said. “This is a terrible, terrible attack.”

This is the mother of two children and there is no reason good enough for an attack like this on her.  I hope they find them and charge them with anything and everything they can.  They deserve to have the same thing done to them if you ask me.  What a horrible, horrible thing to do to any living creature but especially a human being.

I love to read

I have found some great books from Short Stack Publishing which is out of London.  They have one of the best written books on  How to Handle Living with Your Dog that I have read so far.  I told you I had gotten a puppy, right?  Well this is a great book for people interested in living with your dog.

In fact, you should check out their home of the How to Handle Series.  They have some great topics.  They’re just a small publishing company but if they keep publishing great books like these, they won’t be small for long I bet.

Ex-Major Leaguer dies

Bill Werber, who was the oldest living ex-major leaguer and a teammate of Babe Ruth, died Thursday at the age of 100.

Werber was a career .271 hitter who led the American League in stolen bases three times. He played with Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx and Lefty Grove in stints with the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox. He hit .370 as the third baseman on the 1940 World Series champion Cincinnati Reds.

“Babe Ruth hit a home run and I wanted to show them how fast I could run,” Werber said in an interview in June. “So I get into the dugout, and finally Babe got into the dugout. He patted me on the head and said, ‘Son, you don’t have to run like that when the Babe hits one.”‘

What an amazing man with some wonderful stories to have told not only his own children but his grandchildren too.  Imagine the stories they have to tell their children.  Bill Werber died in Charlotte North Carolina in an assisted living center close to his daughter.

Pictures from Christmas Angels

Well I got the disposable cameras back from all of the families my Christmas Angel Tree gave gifts to yesterday and took them to a one hour photo place.  The pictures were wonderful, most of them anyway.  I decided to put them on my computer and try and crop some of them and see if I could clear some of them up but my computer started giving me all sorts of photoshop errors. Now when it comes to things like that, I’m lost.  I don’t know a darn thing about fixing errors like that or any kind of error message as far as that is concerned.

Luckily I found a blog that told me what to do to resolve the problem.  It said that one reason why the Photoshop might fail to respond or give you an error message is if it is in conflict with any other program in the computer. I tried re-installing Photoshop since it said that can help to work out the problem the program could be having that makes it give the Photoshop not responding message.  That fixed the problem but if you try it and that doesn’t work for you, check out the blog because it has several ways to fix it.  I hope that helps you if you are having the same problem.

You do know it’s time for Mardi Gras

For those of you that don’t know, it’s time to kick off Carnival with Festivals.  Here’s a little background on what and why:

Jan. 6, the 12th night on the Biblical calendar, marked the beginning of the 153rd annual pre-Lenten celebration. Before it wraps up Feb. 24, almost 100 parades will have rolled in the area and thousands of riders will have thrown tons of glitzy gee-gaws to what organizers hope will be huge crowds.

Mayor Ray Nagin acknowledged the start of the season with the city’s annual king cake party, slicing up dozens of pastries covered with purple, green and gold icing, and each holding a tiny, plastic baby. Tradition has it that the person getting the baby in their slice of cake must supply the next king cake.

King cakes, believed to have originated in France around the 12th century, are eaten throughout Carnival season, but on 12th night, or the Feast of the Epiphany, they mark the arrival of the three wise men bearing gifts 12 days after Christmas.

And you all thought it was about sin and fun.  Shame on you all for thinking that.  I know that some said Katrina hit New Orleans was God’s way of trying to wipe out the sin in New Orleans.  It was nature and that’s all.
