Indian Summer

The weather turned cold last week and we had freeze warnings on Thursday and Friday night. So I brought in my plants and will keep them inside for the winter. I have been tending these plants for several years and I would be so very upset to lose them to frost or freezing.

Just when I was resigned to wearing a jacket and getting used to the cold again, the weather forecast has called for temps back in the upper 70’s and 80’s this week. So I guess we are having an Indian Summer.

Raking Leaves

The leaves are starting to turn color and blow off the trees. I might have to actually rake my yard for the first time this weekend. It makes me sad to have to acknowledge that summer is really over, even though the days get warm and we have not had a frost yet. But the falling leaves are tough to deny. Autumn is definitely here!

Turn off the TV

For years I would turn on the TV when I got home each night and then leave the TV on all night. Most of the time it was on CBS and I just left it on CBS. But now I like a show that I just happened to discover that is on NBC. I don’t want to leave the TV on NBC all the time – most of their shows annoy me. But this one is good. So now I just turn off the TV except for when that particular show comes on and when I want to watch the news.

Worthless Coupons

About once a month, sometimes more often, I get an email from GoDaddy about saving money on domain names. Now, I only have a couple of domain names and it really does not cost very much to keep them registered with an annual renewal. But I’m all about saving money when I can. It all adds up!

So I tried to use the last coupon that GoDaddy sent me in my email last week and supposedly good for the rest of this month, promising a 20% savings. When I tired to use it, it said I wasn’t qualified to use the discount. I tried the coupon code, I tried using other links on their site, and I finally had to call their tech support people. Turns out that the coupon code did me no good – I got a better discount without having to do anything on their site except check out. What a great waste of time and huge frustration to me to deal with all of that – all for nothing.

Crafting and Recycling

recycle crafting

The best thing about my new apartment is the second bedroom that I have. It is now my studio. I have the computer set up in there, but it is mostly my drafting table, my sewing machine, and all my crafts supplies are in drawers and shelves now. I love it!

New Neighbors

I am really enjoying my new apartment. It is bright and clean and I have a nice view of the downtown skyline from my balcony.

The neighbors are mostly my age and seem really nice. The girl across the hall from me stopped by and brought me a housewarming gift – a loaf of zucchini bread that she made herself. Wasn’t that sweet? And the girl right below me said hello in the parking lot this morning. Her name is Melinda and she works at the hospital, so she has crazy shifts and she says she is almost never home.

I was able to move in early and they gave me the first two weeks free. I don’t have to pay rent until October 1 instead of having it pro-rated like the last place wanted. So I can take my time getting settled and spend a little money that I saved on the rent by putting up new curtains and getting a new bedspread for my bedroom.

Competitive Cards

There are card games that are mostly social activities. Like Rummy. That’s a good game for sitting around with 3 or 4 people and playing cards while you chat and sip on a cold drink. But other games are for serious competition.

I know a lot of people who play Bridge, even though it doesn’t make the news like it used to back in the 1960’s. There are a lot of people in Bridge clubs who play regularly, some even once a week for live games and every night online.

I’m thinking about learning how to play and going to a few places that host the games. I hear that the community center is hosting a Bridge Club once a month. It would be nice to get out on a regular basis and see people.

My Dogs Allergies

This time of year I have to give all 5 dogs a bath several times a week  to get the pollen off them. I suffer from hayfever and we all bring pollen into the house after being outdoors.

Did you know that dogs can be allergic to grass? My white and black dogs are extremely allergic. I have to give them foot baths every night to soother their irritated feet. That sounds weird, even to me. lol The foot baths are just making them stand in the tub for 10 minutes – I’m not massaging their feet and painting their toenails or anything. lol

Tummy Grumbles

The worst thing about making a dentist appointment right before lunch might be that your mouth will be sore and you won’t want to eat lunch. Sometimes the dentist even says, “Don’t eat anything for at least 4 hours.” and then I’m like, “What?”

But the worst thing about that is not the food and eating. It’s the embarrassing tummy grumbles that fill the room.
