March 12!

I think I just figured it out.  Monday morning came around too quickly and I am off to work again. The day I had yesterday was amazing with the warm, sunny weather.  I was trying to figure out what was wrong with that day, and now I have.  It went by too fast and now it’s cloudy and time to go back to work.  I wish there was a job out there that I could do only when I felt like it.  Sort of like working on my garden.  I will do a little more today after work, but only if I feel like it.

My plan is to stop and pick up more bluebonnets along with seeds to plant tomatoes.  I want to make salads and start eating healthy too.  It must be that warm weather coming in so soon. After I do some more planting and work on my garden I will keep you updated on how things are going.  In the meantime I’m headed off for a full week of work.  Don’t you just love Monday mornings?!

Sundays

Today is Sunday March 11!  I am feeling very relaxed and have decided to make myself some lemonade and go sit outside in my beautiful lawn.  I have never had a house before or at least not a house with such a big yard.  The sun is shining but not too brightly and the wind is blowing just a little bit.  It is hard to believe that this is the middle of March and not the middle of July.  I am so thankful for the warm weather.

The winter was calm this year in the south followed by an early spring.  There is something amazing about the beauty of a warm, sunny day.  I’m not quite sure what it is.  Sometimes I feel that it’s too good to be true.  When you hear that there is some bad in every good it makes you wonder if that person ever saw the beauty of a sunrise or a perfect spring day.  I don’t know about you but I can’t find one thing wrong with the beauty of this day.

New Home

Although the move was tough coming from the South and ending up on the East Coast.  I have to admit I am really loving it here.  Besides the beautiful weather and the amazing garden that I have started, just the peace and quiet of this area I have fallen in love with.  You hear so many things especially before a move.  Such as oh the traffic is going to drive you crazy.  The cost of living is 3 times as much as it is in the south.  You’ll be back.

With so many opinions and so much help even prior to the move I freaked out a little.  I mean a new area means new friends, a new home, new furniture, a whole new lifestyle.  Speaking of furniture I miss my old chair that I use to fall asleep in.  I miss my neighbors as well, but my life on the East Coast has turned out to be more pleasant than I had experccted.  Maybe walking into it terrified from the horror stories have made it so much more beautiful than I had expected.

Starting a Garden

For a while now I have been thinking about starting a garden.  With the warm weather coming so early this year I guess my thoughts have been on flowers and gardening.  On my way home from work last week I stopped by the home and garden center to see what they had.  I knew there were a couple of things I had to take into consideration before starting up.

I wanted to start up with some flowers that would bloom for this season.  I didn’t want to wait  a whole year before seeing the results.  I also wanted to plant some fruits and vegetables as well.  I was thinking about tomatoes and watermelon.  I wanted to do a whole bunch of things but knew that as a beginner I had to take it slow and be patient.  My patience has paid off.  I noticed the bluebonnets that I had planted have already begun to come to surface.  They are the same flower that First Lady Barbara Bush had planted around Texas.  I was surprised and shocked at how easy it was and I am ready to run out to the home and garden center again for my next purchase.

Spider Killer Needed

Sometimes I think the only reason I miss having a man around the house is when I am alone and have to deal with a spider. I don’t know what it is about spiders that terrify me. After careful thought, I don’t remember any childhood dramas involving spiders. But I really do freak out when I see one.

I don’t care if the spiders see me or are just going about their own business. When I see a spider anywhere inside my home or even outdoors in my yard, it must die. It is so much easier to just yell for a man to come kill the damn thing. If I’m alone, I have to find a weapon, prepare the execution area, and strike quickly to make sure it does not get away.

And sometimes the worst thing happens – I miss and it gets away. Then I have to go around all day and night worrying about the spider that is still lurking somewhere and I won’t be satisfied until it is dead.

Everything is Fried

One of the problems with getting good food in the South is that they sure love to fry everything. When you are trying to stick to a heart healthy diet or if you cannot eat a lot of fried foods because of gall bladder issues, eating out in a restaurant can become a real challenge for finding healthy foods. Even the Chinese food is a Southern version and almost everything on the Chinese take out menu is fried. I almost never use my frying pan at home any more. I would much rather broil or grill my meats and either boil or nuke the vegetables.

Can’t Sleep

It’s late and I should be in bed, sound asleep. But I can’t sleep and I’m sick of lying in the bed staring at the ceiling. I thought there might be something fun on Facebook, but it looks like everyone else is in bed. I’m bored and can’t sleep.

Chex Mix

The grocery store had all the flavors of Chex Mix on sale today, so I bought a bag of the original recipe Chex Mix. I used to make this mix myself, back in the day. One of my neighbor from when I used to live in Fredericksburg had a party at her house and invited me. She served homemade Chex Mix at the party and I was hooked! She was sweet enough to give me her recipe for it and I made up a batch for every party or special occasion that came up, like picnics and pot lucks. But  it has been a long time since I made up a batch. I just realized how long it has been since I even had a party here. That needs to be rectified ASAP!

Weird Tyra

The first time I heard this I thought it was a crazy lie or a publicity stunt. But then I heard it a second time, from Tyra Banks herself during an interview on a TV news show. She says that when she was a teenager she was not popular at all and no one ever asked her out on a date. So she would look at herself in a full length mirror in her bedroom and kiss the mirror, like she was kissing herself. She said that she did deep kisses and french kisses, for the practice.

Sorry, Tyra. That is just too weird for me. I don’t think you should be telling on yourself like that, either. Those kinds of things are better kept as secrets. Its just too much info and it does nothing to enhance your image at all.

Showtime New Shows

Tonight is the series premieres of two big shows on the Showtime cable network. This weekend is a free preview weekend, too. So even if you don’t have showtime on your cable subscription service, you can watch their movies and shows tonight. If you like them you can add it to your cable for only $10 extra each month. Think about it – if you watch just two movies on the cable channel, it’s cheaper than going to the theater.
