Puppy mills

When I was in college, my mother and I had a kennel and raised puppies.  We had about 75 breeder dogs.  It used to anger me quite a bit for people to refer to us as part of the puppy mills that you would see in the news.  I personally have been to a puppy mill and couldn’t stand what I saw.  There are reputable breeders out there and we were one of them.  The adult dogs and the puppies were cared for as you would your family pets by us.  So if you are looking for a puppy, buy one from a breeder that will let you see the parents and not keep you from seeing the conditions the breeders are living in.  In fact, before long I am going to be looking for a puppy myself and trust me, I will check out the kennel before I purchase my puppy.

Sorghum for fuel?

Oil prices are affecting everything in this day in time.  People have to do without some things they took for granted just last year so they can have the gas to go to work now.  The solution is not a simple one but I do believe that alternative sources of fuel are the key to help combat the ever rising price of gasoline.  I saw where they can use sorghum (which is what a lot of our ancestors used to make molasses) to produce a cheaper fuel.  This would also help keep food prices down and feed a lot of families.  I’m sure someone will find a way to poo-poo this like everything else to help bring down our dependence on oil.

Recycle

I believe in recycling.  We need very much to take care of our Mother Earth instead of spitting in her face the way we have been doing.  I may be old fashioned in my way of looking at things but I feel that our abuse is what is causing so much turmoil in our weather.  I must not be too old fashioned if the scientists are beginning to see it that way too.

Respect is something we have fallen away from and is something we need to relearn as a society.  Respect our land, respect our people and respect our country because I can’t think of anywhere I would rather live.  There are many places I have yet to visit and plan on traveling more as I can but for now, I will try the best I can to take care of my own.

Old Cell Phones & 911

Did you know that if you have a cell phone that is no longer on a contract with your cell company that it can still be used to dial 911?  It’s true.  Too many people simply throw away their old cell phones when they get a new one.  Some will recycle it as a child’s toy but I prefer to recycle it into something that will help others.  Women’s shelters give used cell phones to women in their shelter to have as extra protection so keep that in mind when you buy a new cell phone.  Donate your old cell phone to help someone helpless without it.

Respect

Our government may not be perfect and I am not going to try and say it is but I love this country.  I love our people and especially our soldiers.  These young men are fighting for us, to keep us safe, to give us freedom from fear and deserve nothing but our utmost respect and gratitude.  Everyone has a right to their opinions, but when your opinion hurts innocent people like our soldiers families, you might want to think twice before opening your mouth.  War is ugly and I can’t say it is right or wrong.  All I can say is I will not voice any opinion against our soldiers.

Water everywhere

The water damage was horrific here.  Deadly mold overtook most everything.  It was not something that could be easily fixed by just ordinary people.  I had to hire professionals to clean up the water damage and restore my building so we could return to a safe place.  This took a long time but was worth every dime.  I must make sure everyone is taken care of properly.

Mardi Gras

New Orleans is known for its Mardi Gras.  It’s the party capital of the world.  Everyone is welcome, young, old, and any thing else that makes an individual unique.  We pass no judgment and celebrate life as it should be.  If you ever get the chance to come to Mardi Gras, please do and I promise you will have the time of your life or at least the biggest celebration of life you can imagine.

New Orleans taste

Not only is New Orleans known for it’s music but also for it’s food.  The food of New Orleans is spicy, full of flavor and known by it’s taste around the world.  People like Emeril Legasse have made sure that everyone knows the food.  Gumbo is probably one of the most well known.  Justin Wilson, bless his heart, was another one that brought our food to your table.  We all surely miss him and his Cajun humor.  He not only filled your stomach but also filled your heart with his great stories he told while he cooked.  I’m sure a lot of you remember his program on TV.  If not, you missed a great one.

New Orleans sound

Technology has come far since I first worked in the clubs of New Orleans.  Music can now be synthesized so you don’t need a complete band but I must admit, nothing beats the true sound of New Orleans.  A lot of greats started here and many have come from here like Doug Kershaw (also known as the ragin Cajun), Aaron Nevill and his brothers, Harry Connick  Jr. and more than I can mention in a short time.  A good time is to be had by all when they are playing their music.

Taking care of my people

My establishment is a quality establishment.  Not some fly by night type of place but a good, clean atmosphere for all.  As the owner of my own business, there are many things to consider, one of which is health insurance for all my employees among others.  Again the internet provides many options in this area to choose from.  I make sure everyone that works for me and is illegible has health insurance.  It’s a shame more establishments don’t feel the same way because if you take care of your employees, they will also take care of you.
