Winter is coming

The cold weather is starting to set in. I think it’s officially time to say goodbye to summer and get ready for the cold. I have done a few things around the house in order to keep our fuel bills down. I checked all the windows and did some minor repairs to them to keep the heat in the house. I have also been getting everyone use to the idea of opening and closing the blinds in order to take advantage of the sun’s natural heat.

I also got us a huge load of firewood. There is nothing better than sitting by the fire on a cold winter’s night. I think I got a pretty good deal on the wood and am looking forward to having a reliable source of heat. I am ready for winter so let it come!

Good Work

I work for a very large company. Despite the uncertain economic times, we are fortunate to be expanding. That is good news except for the fact that we have had some problems with having enough space to do our work in. That’s why we have decided to build some new buildings for our company. I play a role in that and it has been interesting to say the least.

One thing my company ask me to do is to have some input on the amount and types of cabling we needed for the new offices. I needed to find a Structured Cabling Contractor to install the wiring. It was not as easy as it sounded and I had quite a time with it. I knew it was very important to get it right the first time. Getting the right Structured Cabling Contractor was the key.

I finally found a company that could help. I visited a site called mason247.com and found the installers I needed. They had plenty of experience as data cabling installers and seemed very good at what they did. It was a match made in heaven and I was very lucky to have picked the right company. Our building is now up and running and we are very happy with the results. I am good at my job!

Outsourcing

It seems that the news today is all about the economy and how bad it is doing. One thing that comes to mind is the fact that so many American jobs are being transferred overseas. I read an article today about how many things are no longer produced in the U.S. it was amazing to me and it’s no wonder our economy is doing poorly.

Many major industries have shipped their jobs overseas. It’s hard to believe that there are no TV’s made in America as well as no cell phones. We also buy nearly all of our shoes from overseas as well as our toys, steel, and baseballs. I hope our congress will realize that we need these jobs back and will work to get them back in the U.S. where they belong!

A struggle

It can be very difficult for a single parent to raise a child. I have a close friend at work that does it and it’s been a very trying time for her. Her son has reached his teenage years and has become very difficult to handle. The boys name is John and he has been getting into a lot of trouble with drugs. He stays out late with his friends sometimes doesn’t come home at all. She has tried everything she knows, but she can’t seem to control him anymore.

I volunteered to help her out in any way I could. The first thing I did was to go on the internet to find teen addiction info. This way I could help her make good decisions about how to go forward. After looking at several sites on the internet, I thought that I would recommend a teen drug rehab program for her son. Getting her son professional help seemed like a good idea to me.

I think that having her son in an environment that was geared toward recovery would help a lot. I think this young man will have a great future if we can take care of this problem. Getting him the teen drug treatment that he needs will be a great first step in that direction. I’m sure that it will all work out.

Obama and Taxes

Since the republicans made major gains in the recent election, president Obama has decided to start making a few deals with the other side. The latest deal that could be in the works is taxes. The Bush administrations tax cuts will expire soon and many want to extend the cuts for years to come.

The tax cuts are scheduled to end in January. The cuts will affect nearly every American including the richest Americans. Republicans have argued that the tax hike will hurt small businesses and put a damper on the struggling economy. We’ll have to wait to see the outcome of this important issue.

The Amazon

The Amazon has been under a lot of pressure over the last several decades. Clearing of the forests for industrial use and farming have depleted the areas needed for a healthy biosphere. This has caused environmentalists to pressure several organizations to stop the logging and save this area for future generations.

Scientists say that they are finding as many as three new species every day in the rain forest. These species are important because they teach us about our world and may have benefits to the medical industry. I hope that the governments in this area will work to protect the forest and the animals within it.

Volcano Mess

In the beautiful land of Indonesia, there is a mount Merapi. The problem with the mountain is that it has an active volcano that is making life a deadly game for many Indonesians. Lava flows and deadly clouds of searing hot ash have fallen on the people killing at least 38. The mountainside is home to thousands of farmers who make their living on the sides of the mountain.

Whenever the mountain erupts, thousands flee down the hill to safety. When things are all clear, the people return to feed their cows and goats. Officials are trying to keep the farmers off the mountain, but are having little success. It seems that the deadly game will continue until the mountain quiets.

One thing that has many companies worried is the illegal production of fake merchandise. It is a problem for many around the world and the problem seems to be growing with the advent of the internet. Law enforcement is trying to combat the problem but is overwhelmed by the shear numbers.
