Stop that check!!

I found it very interesting to read about how the country of Great Britain is considering stopping the use of checks. It seems that boards of bankers think they are too expensive to clear and they favor cheaper ways of paying bills. They have set a preliminary date of 2018 for the complete stoppage of check clearing. There are some who are concerned though.

The elderly people tend to write more checks than any other age group. They are not always computer savvy and are set in their ways. Some businesses also want to continue their customer’s use of checks. Whatever happens, I am sure that sooner or later, the checks will be stopped.

French Fried

It seems that the country of France is looking for ways to save money on its public finances. They have a very large deficit and are planning ways to combat the red ink. One thing they are doing is raising their retirement age from 60 to 62. They hope to save a lot of money by doing this.

Of course, there are many people who are not happy with the decision. But, many believe it is the only responsible thing to do in light of the deficit. The plan will be implemented over a number of years and has some loopholes for those who need it. I think France is doing the right thing by keeping their deficit in check!

Being as that the economic times are so uncertain, I decided to look into ways to ensure my economic prosperity. After doing some research, I decided that I needed to purchase gold. It seems that the craze of texting has reached new heights. According to a study by the Pew Internet and American Life project, texting is now the most popular form of communication for teens. Girls lead the way with an average of 80 texts a day. Teens find that they can no longer live without their phones.

Teens favor texting as it can be done almost anywhere. They also enjoy the fact that messages are almost instantaneous. Many teens even sleep next to their phones. I guess this shows the differences between now and when I was growing up. I think technology is great, but we still need to keep an eye on what’s going on with our kids!

Safe and sound

One thing I love more than anything else in this world is my daughter. She is the light of my life and I would do anything for her. I also like to take steps to protect her from harm. One way I do this is to ensure that when she is online, she only visits sites that are good for her. When she wanted to play online games, I thought I would check out what she was playing before I let her do so.

I checked out a number of games sites that were online. There are thousands of online games to play and I wanted to be sure she only played good clean ones. That’s why I was happy when I found a site called gamehous.com. They have a number of games to choose from that are just plain old-fashioned fun.

I like the fact that my baby can stay at home and still have a lot of fun. It’s good to know that she is safe upstairs in her room playing online games. Sometimes she brings her friends over and they play together. I think that builds character and helps her socialize. The world is a better place because of my daughter. I am glad to help ensure that she is safe and sound.

Dead Money

I was shocked to read today that the U.S. government has been sending out checks to those who are deceased. It was found out that over the last three or four years; more than 20,000 checks were sent to dead people. This is the kind of waste that makes Americans angry. That’s not all of the news. Some checks were sent to convicted felons as well as deadbeat contractors.

The Obama administration is vowing to rectify the situation by creating a database that list the dead as well as felons and contractors that owe the government money. I hope this new system will save the poor taxpayers some of their hard earned money!

The House, Our Home

The wife and I have been working to fix up the old homestead. We have had a wonderful time working together on various projects around the house. This year, we have concentrated a lot of our effort on the outside of the house including getting our lawn and gardens into shape. We think that the outside of the house is just as important as the inside. We have worked hard to find ways to improve the view of the house from the street.

One thing we are really happy about is the addition of an address plaque. We put the plague by the street and surrounded it with plants. We also added some rocks and figurines around it. It looks great and makes it easy to find our house. We didn’t know about home address plaques before, but now that we do, we are glad to have found one that fits our style.

One of our neighbors commented on the plaque and asked for more information about it. I told him to get on the internet and type in address plaques and he would find a place to get one for himself. I am sure that over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be seeing one in front of his house as well. While I am sure that our house will never be perfect, I am glad that we made this one fine addition.

I was listening to an interesting story today about a lady who was being spied on by a former boyfriend. The man had secretly installed spyware on her cell phone and was able to listen to her conversations as well as tell where she was. The technology is widely available online and works very well.

Anyone who thinks they may be a victim of this spyware has a few options for removing it. One way to do so is to reinstall the operating system of the phone. This will eliminate the spyware. Another option is to get a new phone entirely and that will end the threat. In today’s society you can never be too careful and knowing about things like this can help keep you safe!

Water Logged

As it always seems to happen, I am accident prone. Two days ago I was getting out of my car and my cell phone slipped out of my hand. The phone bounced off the seat and directly into a puddle of water that was next to my parking spot. Since I was still trying to get out of the car, it was a few seconds before I was able to retrieve it. The phone was entirely wet and I thought it was ruined. Luckily, I found a way to save the phone.

As soon as I got to the house, I took the battery out and put the phone into a bag of rice. I know that seems a bit strange, but the rice sucks the moisture away from the phone. After leaving it there for a day, I took the phone out and put it on top of the TV where it was nice and warm. When I put the battery back in, the phone worked just as it had before. I am glad I didn’t have to go through the hassle of getting a new phone!!
