Battery Blues

One item that was recently in the news was all about button batteries. This type of battery is round and looks similar to a penny or other small coins. These batteries can be found in a number of products such as toys and cell phones. The problem is that they can be very dangerous to children.

Everyone knows that kids can get into everything. They also like to put things in their mouths. The problem is that these batteries can be a choking hazard to kids. They also pose a serious threat to your health if swallowed. Acids in the battery can become caustic and actually burn a hole right through your body. Notify authorities immediately if you suspect someone has swallowed a battery!

You’re Choice

One of my favorite things to do is to keep track of all the cars that are available. I love cars and trucks and like to keep tabs on the best ones. I have been doing some research into this area and have a few cars and trucks I’d like to mention. The first one is the cadillac escalade hybrid. This is a beautiful car that has a lot to offer. Not only is the gas mileage great, but it is a well built hybrid. Anyone who has concerns about the environment would be well satisfied with this vehicle. I like its looks and I know that the cadillac quality is contained therein.

The next vehicle that I would like to mention is one of my old favorites. It’s the hummer h3t and the new model is coming out this year. While in many ways it is steeped with the same old qualities we have come to expect, there are some new changes. This year’s model will have the capability to run on an up to 85 percent blend of ethanol. They also have some new color schemes to please the eye. All in all, it’s the same old standard but with a few improvements.

Whenever I want to have a nice vehicle for getting some work done, I turn to the gmc canyon. With its v8 power, it has all the pulling power I need to carry the loads I have. It is fairly fuel efficient and comes with many standard options. It is also one of the safest vehicles on the road as it has received the five-star crash tests scores. It is a likeable little truck that will grow on you over time.

The last thing I want to say is that all of these vehicles are very nice. You just have to determine what your needs are going to be. You can always go online in order to find out more info when necessary. Whatever one you choose, I am confident you will come away feeling good about your choice.

3D TV

One thing we have all been hearing about lately is the new 3D technology that has been spouted as the latest craze. Before we get too excited about it though, we need to look at some of its drawbacks. The first major drawback is the money that will be needed to purchase the new TV that is required. Our old TVs won’t be able to work with the new technology and will have to be replaced.

Another drawback will be the necessity of wearing 3D goggles to view the shows produced. That may be uncomfortable as well as a turnoff. There are still more problems with the technology that will occur. In order to redo the thousands of shows for 3D will be problematic for studios as the process to update the shows is difficult and time consuming. My opinion is that this is a technology that will not catch on anytime soon!

Flap Over Rolling Stone Magazone Cover Photo

The past two days have been full of all these self righteous do-gooders criticizing Rolling stone magazine for their cover photo of the guy who was involved with the tragedy in Boston. They say it is disrespecting the victims of his crime to put his photo on the cover. That say that being on the cover of Rolling Stone glorifies that person and makes him a rock star. I say: ridiculous.

The photo used by Rolling Stone is the exact same photo that was used by the New York Times on their front page, above the fold. There was no outcry against the New York Time and that was a blatant attempt by the NYT to sensationalize the story.

The photo shows what looks like a normal college kid. That is the magazine’s target demographic. The point of the story is that something wrong happened somewhere along the way in this kid’s life. It examines his childhood and what is known about his experiences as a teenager and college kid. It asks the question, what went wrong and what we can do about it?

This is an important dialogue that our country should be undertaking. Comeing to an understanding of what happened to turn this kid from normal to killer is how we can take steps to make sure it does not happen to other kids.

The story is not making this kid a rock star. It points out that our society has issues that need to be addressed and resolved, more than seeking vengeance on this guy through the convoluted court system. This guy is never going to get out of jail and walk our streets again. We all know that. But what about the other kids who are just like him who are?

A Surprise

I was reading an article today about women drivers. The article stated that contrary to popular belief, most women are better drivers than men. I was quite surprised by this statement. I have spent most of my life believing the opposite. After living through many of my own experiences, I thought that girls were bad drivers. Surprisingly, according to the numbers women are safer drivers than men.

I was also unaware that in many cases, car insurance for women is cheaper. There are companies that actually seek out women drivers in order to get the lowest rates. I always say that the numbers don’t lie and I guess I’ll have to change my opinion. There are also other ways for to obtain cheap car insurance for women. By taking advantage of discounts and enrolling in driver education courses, women can get insurance that is very affordable.

I guess the battle between the sexes will go on for awhile longer, but I am certainly disheartened to find that men are on the bottom end of this deal. I will be glad to know that at least my wife will be able to afford the coverage she needs while driving around. I guess the insurance companies haven’t seen her driving yet!

Ugh

I normally don’t write about politics, but these election campaigns are on my last nerve. I cannot understand why they insist on running smear campaigns against each other. Don’t they realize that people really don’t want to see that kind of stuff? People want to hear about the issues, not about one candidate blaming the other for one thing after another, or putting them down for lifestyle etcetera. I cannot wait until this is over already.

Loving Nascar this year

Jr has been leading in the points for most of the season so far, even though he has only won one race. That is literally amazing. I hope that he is able to keep his lead, but unless he starts winning a a few more races, it will not happen. My brother and I are battling it out over Jeff and Jr. I know I am going to win this one.

Go Dale Earnhardt Jr !

Gladiator

Gladiator is the name of a huge fire in Arizona. Firefighters are battling the blaze but are outmatched by weather conditions. It has been a very hot and dry spring that has made conditions right for a fire like this. The high winds are making it almost impossible to put the fire out.

There are some bright spots as firefighters were able to save some of the properties in the area. The bad news is that the fires are still raging and there is no end in sight. It’s going to be hard to get these fires under control.

The times ahead

With the next presidential election getting closer all the time, many eyes are on the economy. The health of the economy will play a large roll in who gets elected to the top office in the land. So the question is how the economy is doing.

Experts all agree on one thing. They are not quite sure. Some believe the economy is growing and will be better than expected in the near future. Others believe that the economy will be dragged down by the Euro that is having issues of its own. I guess only time will tell.

Pants on fire

Sometimes strange things happen. I heard about a woman who went to the beach with her kids in California. The kids collected some colored rocks and gave them to their mother. The mother put the rocks in her pocket and they all went home. Upon arrival at their home the rocks caught on fire while in her pocket and gave her second and third degree burns.

Scientists are now studying the rocks and think they contain phosphorus which is used to make matches. Some believe the phosphorus is human made and are trying to figure out where it came from.
