Too Sensitive

The news today is all about a remark that President Barack Obama made about Las Vegas. He said that people shouldn’t blow their money on vacationing in Las Vegas if they are saving for college, the mayor of Las Vegas has taken offence to this remark and another remark the president made in February. The president defends himself saying he was just making a point.

The president pointed out that he loves Las Vegas and has vacationed there before. I surely think that the folks in Vegas have far too thin skin. I believe the president’s point was correct and people in Vegas should just live with the truth.

Scorpions

I have always loved music and I have my own favorite bands. That’s why I was saddened to hear that the band called the Scorpions will be ending their careers. The band announced that they will release a final album called “Sting in the Tail” and will make a final tour. I will miss their music. I hope that they will know how much joy they have brought to millions of fans who have enjoyed their music over the years!

Password 123

An interesting article came across my desk today about how many people use the same passwords. The passwords they are using are too simple and can easily be hacked by those who would do us harm. The worst password you can have is “12345”. Another bad one is “123456”. It seems that hackers target common passwords and try them at random until they find the right one.

You can protect yourself by using passwords that are difficult to guess. Mix up your letters and numbers at random and use upper and lower case letters. Do not use your pets name or zip code!! Good luck out there and change your password today!!

Military Bases

I was a little concerned when I read today that most of the nations military bases will be forced to cut back on the services that they normally supplied. Due to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the military is looking for ways to cut back on their budgets. Military bases are a prime target as they are not directly related to the war effort.

Some of the services that will be reduced include trash pickup and lawn maintenance. They are also looking into other services to cut as the need to reduce spending hits home. I hope that some other ways are found to stretch the budget while continuing to provide the much needed services that our soldiers need!

Fast trains in China

I was not surprised to learn today that China now has the fastest train in the world. It appears that they have been working hard to expand their train system and have taken advantage of new technologies to do so. Their newest train can reach a peak speed of 217 miles per hour and links the cities of Guangzhou and Wuhan. This means that travelers can make the journey in about three hours.

I am glad to hear that China is becoming a more modern nation. While they may not be perfect in every way we would like, they are fast becoming a modernized nation. I am glad to welcome them to the modern world and wish them continued success in their endeavors.

Some change is good

I was very surprised to hear about a Liberty Head Nickel that sold at auction for over $3.7 million dollars. The 1913 coin had been featured on the once popular TV show called Hawaii Five-O. The buyer who wishes to remain anonymous outbid all others for the coin at a public action in Florida on Thursday. The coin is also known for the fact that it had once been owned by Egypt’s King Farouk. It’s amazing how such a little coin can turn into so much change!

The latest on Pirates

It seems the pirates in Somalia are undeterred by efforts to eliminate them. Several countries have ships in the water guarding the shipping trades and other measures have been taken to reduce the threat that piracy poses. So far, efforts have done little to stop the lucrative trade. This has left many countries pondering the possible solution to the problem.

One of the main ideas is to stop piracy where it starts, inside Somalia. But there are few countries that wish to enter the country with ground troops to break up the ring. There seems to be few answers to this problem as the pirates continue to wreak havoc on the high seas!

Afghanistan

The U. S. military buildup in Afghanistan is beginning. Troops are arriving every day in an effort to bolster the 68,000 troops already there. At this point, it is still too early to say how this will affect morale. The pentagon has high hopes that the buildup will help us win the war. In addition to troops, the brass is sending in additional equipment as well.

The militaries already heavy use of drone aircraft is being increased. The drones allow us to keep an eye on the enemy. New advances in this equipment are helping to keep us better informed about enemy troop movements. I hope that the addition of troops on the ground and new equipment will allow us to make better headway in the war on terror.

At home comfort

There have been many times in my life when I thought I knew more than I did. This happened to me the other day when my daughter came home with her math book in hand. She asked me a question and I was sure I would be able to help. The problem was that after looking over the question, I didn’t have a clue about how to solve it! That’s when I decided that we needed some Math help to get the job done.

We decided to go online to see whether or not we could find out something about math. While there were many sites, the answers were not what we were looking for or were too complicated to figure out. That’s when we thought that by getting some Online math tutoring, we would be able to much better understand the material. We found a site called tutorvista.com that offered the help we needed.

There are many advantages when you utilize Online math help. The best part is that you don’t have to leave the house. We were able to rest in the comfort of our home while working through the problems. Another benefit was receiving the one on one tutoring we desired. This made the whole thing easy and painless. I am sure that from now on, we will continue to seek help online when we need it!

TSA mishap

There is always something going on at the airport, and it seems there is a little more action than usual this week. TSA officials were embarrassed to find that a sensitive document containing information on screening has come to light. The document was posted on their website and could give terrorists an advantage when trying to beat the system. The document has been removed from the site, but we all hope that the damage is not already done!
