Today is one of everybody’s favorite holidays. Thanksgiving has finally arrived and I am so ready to dig in to some turkey! We are going all out this year and are preparing a meal that would fit a king. You name it, we have it! We will have a house full of people and I imagine that everyone will bring something to eat with them as well. The refrigerator will surely be packed with leftovers by tonight. I also want to wish everyone a happy thanksgiving holiday!
Happy Birthday!!
It’s that time of year again when somebody I know is having a birthday! I wanted everyone to lend me a hand in saying Happy Birthday to my niece Amanda who is turning 5 years old today. I hope she will have a great day and I’m sure she will.
I was informed that Amanda will be spending the day at a local Chucky Cheeses with several of her friends. I believe that along with all the presents she will undoubtedly receive, she’ll be in for a day to remember.
Happy Birthday Amanda!
Test your smoke alarms
Before the holidays get here, I would like to remind everyone to test their smoke alarms at home and also at work if you have any responsibility for that.
I have already seen that there have been several fires in my area where people have lost their homes. There are always a lot of fires this time of year when things are dry, and many are caused from decorations people put up for the Christmas holidays. Sometimes too many lights overload the electric circuit. Another danger with outside lights is that sometimes squirrels get on your roof and chew on the wires. And really old lights can get frayed from being unwrapped, hung up, taken down and wrapped again.
Chimney fires are also very dangerous and totally preventable if you just have your chimney checked and serviced regularly by a chimney sweep. If you use the fireplace more than 3 or 4 times each winter, you should have the chimney checked annually. if you burn soft woods like pine or burn those paper logs in your fireplace, you will have more creosote build up in your chimney than if you burn just hardwoods like seasoned oak. An honest chimney sweep will tell you if it needs cleaning or can wait a season, and it does not have to be expensive.
So, be very careful and make sure everything, from the holiday lights to your chimney, is in working order. Make sure your fire extinguishers are good as well. Remember that it is better to be safe then sorry.
Helping animals
No matter where you live there are many stray or hurt animals that need help. The local shelters are inundated with animals and many of them work completely off of donations. With the Holiday season fast approaching, many find this time of year the one where they give them most. I would encourage you to also give to your local shelters, so that they can take care of the lost and lonely animals that are so in need of help. A quick search on the internet will tell you where they are all located in your area and you can find out which ones are in need of assistance.
Remember also before you give a pet as a Christmas gift that it is a lifetime commitment and you must be certain that you have the space available and the time, as well as money to care for it. Children love animals, but can easily get bored with it. Make sure you realize that it is something that you are taking on rather than your child taking it on. Have a happy holiday season and don’t forget our little friends whether they are furry or not.
Job opportunity
I have decided that after quitting school and being lazy enjoying the holidays these last couple of weeks I need to grow up and get serious about getting a job. I have always wanted to see the United States and I’m still young so I am thinking about learning to drive a truck.I have been looking into this and I think I can do it. I have to take a training course and pass the DOT exam to get my CDL and then I’m on my way. Can’t wait for this new chapter to begin I just hope the living on the road doesn’t get old.
Christmas party
I went to a Christmas party last night with my old friends here. It was amazing. I met a really cool chick, but unfortunately we wont see each other again as she is going out of the country to study in the UK. That is too bad. I haven’t met a chick that cool in a long time. We have decided to keep in touch though, through Facebook and email. That way whenever she does come back, we can get together and hang out.
The guys hadn’t changed that much over the last few months. Only one of them had anything different going on in his life. He got engaged and will be getting married next summer. He asked me to stand up for him in the wedding and of course I said yes. I wasn’t very surprised about that, since him and his girl have been together forever. They were high school sweet hearts and I doubt they will ever change. I wish them the best of luck !
Anyway, I have to go and finish up the last minute shopping that needs to be done. I only have a few more things to buy, and mom has asked me to pick up a couple of things for her as well. I don’t want to be doing this on Christmas eve, because the stores are already packed and by then they will be a mad house. So, I will catch you on the flip side. Have a Great Holiday!
Holidays
I can’t wait to go home to see the family for the holidays. I am leaving early from school, so I can do my shopping and be able to get it all done in time. I have to wait to do it there, because taking it all on the plane would cost too much and I don’t want to have to mail it to myself there. It is just easier to shop after I get home.
I am lucky in that I already know what I want to buy for my family. They are relatively easy to shop for anyway. For my nieces and nephews, I will just go hit up Toys R Us with my sister and let her pick out what they like. There will be jewelry for my mom and sister and my dad is simple to shop for. I just get him whatever new gadgety tool that is out on the market and he is happy. Makes for an easy shopping trip. Yay for me!
Bought my costume
I am not going to fancy it up this year. I got a regular costume from the store and that is all I am doing. Most years I try to do something original and go all out, but I just don’t seem to have the enthusiasm for it this year. I want to have fun, but I am really just kind of blah about it. I guess life just has me down a bit right now. I am sure that I will snap out of it soon though. At least, I hope I do.
Party time
So we decided to have a party and make it a seafood extravaganza. Since we got that big Marlin, we smoked the meat in dad’s smoker. Well, dad did it since he is retired and had the time, but we also are getting oysters and clams for the party as well. It is going to be a little seafood fest for a few family and friends. We will give away some of the meat as it is just too much to keep. I know that everyone is going to have a blast though. After all, everyone loves seafood. Or at least everyone I know does.
BBQ
Went to a BBQ today at a friends house. Decided to leave early when a couple of people had a little too much to drink. I love BBQ’s but much prefer if people handle their alcohol better then they did today. Must be close to a full moon or somthing. People tend to act a little crazy when the full moon gets close. Anyway, I am out for the rest of the day. Have a good one!
