Balloon Boy

I am sure that nearly everybody has heard about the balloon boy. The boy was thought to be trapped in a balloon and in danger. The authorities followed the balloon until it landed, only to discover that there was no one inside. After an appearance on a talk show, it came to light that the whole deal may have been staged by the parents. In order to gain publicity for a new show they planned to start.

The parents are now under investigation and charges are pending. I hope that they throw the book at them and give them every charge they can think of. Using a child for gain is surly one of the lowest things you can do. I hope they get what’s coming to them!

More Benefits

The house is considering a new bill that would extend the unemployment benefits for millions who are in danger of losing their unemployment checks. Due to the economies failure to produce jobs for these people, the benefits are needed to keep these people afloat until prosperity returns.

I hope the senate will pass this bill and keep hope alive for the thousands of people who cannot find work. Experts say that there are six people without jobs for every new job opening. The unemployment levels are expected to remain about the same for the immediate future.

Tickets

I was very unfortunate the other day to receive a ticket. I made an illegal u-turn while trying to get into the shopping mall. I won’t cry to much as I know it was my fault. The bad part is that when I went to pay the ticket online, the site would not take my ticket number. I am unsure of how to proceed with paying the ticket and may have to break out the checkbook!

Too much fishing

It’s hard to find a case when where too much fishing is bad, but I think we have found one. It seems that the commercial fisherman have gone too far in the case of the Hoki. The Hoki fish lives in the deep waters of the pacific and has been the victim of overfishing. The monetary benefits of the fish have out weighed its need for protection.

McDonald’s corporation uses about 15 million pounds of the fish in its sandwiches each year. Environmentalists say that the fish is in danger of decline. I hope that the people of the world will realize that the bounty of nature is not always limitless. We must be able to find a balance between our interests and Mother Nature. I hope we will find a way to do so.

Floating on air

It seems that NASA is at it again. This time they have hit the news with a new story about levitating mice. They have been working on a device that uses a superconducting magnet that can levitate the water that is in every living animal. While in the device, the mice floated around at the will of gravity.

They said the research was in connection with the study of gravity and humans. Long space voyages will take advantage of the results of this study. I hope the money they have invested in this will pay off!

Kennedy

I am sure that by now everyone has heard about the death of Senator Edward M. Kennedy. The famous Senator has served his country for countless years and deserves the respect that he earned for his trouble. Members of both sides of the isle commend his efforts to improve the lot of the common man.

I wanted to take a moment in remembrance of this American hero. I hope that all will agree that he was a special person and deserves all the respect due to him. I say a final farewell to this great man and hope his legacy will live on.

Enlightening the World

I wanted to take a minute to thank the people of France for giving us a wonderful present, The Statue of Liberty. This giant statue clad in copper stands as a symbol of the friendship between our two countries. Dedicated on October 28, 1886, it marks the centennial signing of the Declaration of Independence. Standing at 305 ft tall, the statue welcomes millions to our country. Thanks to the people of France!

A Nominee

One of the major issues lately has been the choice of President Barack Obama’s Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor. Republicans are railing about the fact that she has a record of siding with the democratic point of view in most of the cases she has decided. Most republicans want a nominee who they think will support the pro-life party.

Regardless of who is picked to be the new justice, I think that person will have to walk a thin line and be careful of their performance for the first few years. The potential for a nominee to be typecast is a serious one and will not help the situation at all. I hope that both parties will agree to select someone with a middle of the road record and settle for whatever happens next!

Catfish Day!!

By order of the president of the United States, Today marks another celebration of National Catfish Day. Proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan and confirmed by the congress with a Joint Resolution, people around the world celebrate the benefits of farm grown catfish.

I must say that there are many recipes for catfish eating and the only one I’ve found that I like is the Cajun Catfish recipe. The spicier the better I say and that’s my final word!

Stop!!

Every one has a pet peeve that they like to carry around and vent about it whenever possible. I have one too. Mine is about people who drive while on their cell phone. This always drives me crazy whenever I see it. I think they should pass a law against it. People always seem to be distracted while on their phone and doubtless this has led to many accidents.

I know that at least one a week I witness a near accident and always see that one of the participants is on the phone. Driving a vehicle is a serious matter as people can easily be injured or killed in an auto accident. Not to mention the fact that people on phones are a major cause of traffic backups. I hope our state will pass a law against this unnecessary practice!
