I was reading a report by Chris Isidore from CNNMoney.com that stated that job losses over the past year were even more than originally reported. The Labor Departments annual report listed that nearly 7 million jobs were lost in the U.S. the truth seems to be closer to around 8 million. I wonder how they could be so far off the mark.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics is revising their annual report to include 824,000 additional lost jobs in April 2008-March 2009. This will have a dramatic impact on the stock market as well as consumer confidence. They explain the large difference in numbers by saying their estimates were wrong. I believe that is self evident!

Getting Back on Track

In the recent State of the Union address to the nation, President Barack Obama announced that our country is finally on the right track as far as the economic recovery goes. While I am glad to hear that, there are still a lot of people who were hurt by the recession. One such person is a friend of mine named Tom who missed some payments and is now paying the price on his credit report.

I talked with Tom at length and we decided that he should think about using the services of one of the credit repair companies that are available. We went online in order to see what was out there and were satisfied when we discovered a site called repairyourbadcredit.com. It seemed that they had just the answer we were looking for as they could fix my credit, improve credit score, and make life easy again.

Now Tom is back on the right track with his finances and is looking forward to a great year. He will now be able to afford the car he wants to purchase and will have reliable transportation. I am glad that I was able to help Tom get his life back together. I am also glad that there are great companies out there who can help with the job!

Working for Me

As one of my New Years resolutions was to diversify the ways I make money, I have been looking into different areas where I can make the gains I want. One area I have a special interest in is Stock Trading. Since I have some knowledge about buying and selling, I thought I would put it to use. I am hoping that I will have a good year financially and be able to put away some money for the future.

One thing that I was sure of was that I would need to be able to do this from home. I don’t always have a lot of time and being able to do this at my leisure was an important factor. That’s why I took advantage of Online Trading as a way to meet my goals. I can make my trades for a low cost no matter what time it is.

The most productive area I have been able to source is my IRA Accounts. I have been able to make good use of them by putting the money into areas where it works for me. I want to be able to ensure that I can provide for my family financially in case I am no longer around. By providing for the future I feel I am doing just that. I encourage everyone to find the opportunities that are open to you!

Some change is good

I was very surprised to hear about a Liberty Head Nickel that sold at auction for over $3.7 million dollars. The 1913 coin had been featured on the once popular TV show called Hawaii Five-O. The buyer who wishes to remain anonymous outbid all others for the coin at a public action in Florida on Thursday. The coin is also known for the fact that it had once been owned by Egypt’s King Farouk. It’s amazing how such a little coin can turn into so much change!

Energy and Money

One thing that I like about the current administration is their concern for the environment. I am all for the fact that they will soon be offering a tax rebate for people who make their homes more energy efficient. There are a number of ways to do so and they are not that difficult. Even though they are small things, they can add up to significant energy savings.

When you go through your house, make sure that your windows and doors are weather-stripped. You can also use caulk to seal up any areas that need it. Another easy way to save money is to replace your light bulbs with CFLs. I certainly hope that every homeowner will take some time to ensure that their house is energy efficient.

Our country

One thing that I enjoy doing on a nightly basis is reading. Each night before I go to sleep, I like to read a few pages which helps me to sleep. One subject that I really like to read about is American history. Whether it’s Indians or the California gold rush, I like to learn about the ways in which our country was built. The gold rush of 1849 is really interesting to me. Little did these miners know that they were helping our country grow.

Nowadays, we all know the benefits that gold brings to those who own it. It is a stable mineral whose value is always in demand. No matter what the world situation is gold is always a valuable asset. Whenever the world is shocked by wars, natural disasters, or government defaults, people rely on the staying power of gold to overcome the inadequacies of paper money.

Along with the other natural commodities that our country produced, gold was one of the products that helped our economy grow. We used it to pay our taxes and to develop new areas that were previously unproductive. The miners that worked in the fields helped our country become strong and independent. I am glad to know that our people spring from such a hardy and independent group!

Seasonal jobs

One good thing about the holidays is that some people are finding work. Many of the stores are hiring extra help in order to get through this busy season. That means that paychecks are being made out to some people who haven’t seen one in awhile. It also gets these people off unemployment. The whole thing adds up to be good for everyone involved. I’m glad for those people and hope they will be able to continue working when the holidays are over.

New Toys

Its funny how word gets around when a good deal is found. Whenever a store has a good sale on something, I usually hear about it. A similar thing happened to me the other day when my buddy Greg told me about what a bargain it is when you switch to Direct TV. He told me all the details and I was impressed with what I heard. He said that it’s a bargain when you compare it to cable.

My old cable company hadn’t really lived up to my expectations so I listened to what he had to say. DirectTV is known for having HD on its channels. This means that you get more than just a show, you get an experience. My old cable company couldn’t offer me that and so I listened even closer. They also provide their services for a very reasonable price. When you look at all the channels they have, that’s more than you could ask for.

You would think that these two items would have sold me, but there was even more. Knowing my passion for sports, Greg informed me of the wonderful sports coverage that you can get from Directv. That was enough to sell me and I switched right away. Now that I have done so, I couldn’t be happier with my decision. If fact, I am headed home now to enjoy the rest of my day with my new toy!

Kids and money

I saw a funny article today about some kids who found some money. I thought it was kind of funny so I will pass it along. Four kids in Germany found an envelope full of cash on their way to school. Upon their arrival at the schoolyard they started passing the money out to all of their friends. At that time, a teacher was notified and the police were called.

The police came to investigate and tried to collect the money that had been distributed. That turned out to be quite difficult and it took some time before the money was collected. The police are now investigating whose money it is and how it came to be there. I am sure that I would like to find a nice bundle of cash right now!

I know that for most people, the economic times have been uncertain. I must admit that I have been very lucky to have a pretty good year as far as finances goes.
