Since I spend a lot of time online, I run across many deals that are very good. One deal I was looking at recently was for a Myrtle Beach Resort that seemed too good to be true. I had to admit that the rates I was able to get were very good and well worth the little bit of effort I put in. It was so easy I could hardly believe it.

Help for those who need it

I work in a large office. Because of this, I run into many types of people. Some are very nice and some are not. Some have excellent lives, while others have struggled with personal problems. Dirty dancer

I just saw that movie star Patrick Swayze has died from pancreatic cancer today. The actor was 57 years old. He has been battling the disease for nearly two years and finally succumbed to its effects. The actor performed in a number of movies, the most notable was “Dirty Dancing” as well as “Roadhouse”.

I think it’s been a hard year for the famous. We have seen the deaths of many actors and actresses this year. I hope that the streak will end soon. I’d like to offer my condolences to the family of Mr. Swayze.

Keeping Dad safe

Every year, I go down to Florida to visit my dad. It’s one of the highlights of the year for me. He retired about five years ago and has a nice little condo where he stays. He enjoys the weather there and loves to go fishing when he can. The bad part is that he lives all alone and there is no one there to help if he gets in trouble. Dad has a few medical issues and has been known to fall out from time to time.

He has a condition that causes him to pass out occasionally. For the most part he is ok, but you never know what could happen. The last time I was there, I decided to get him set up with a system called Life Alert. It’s a system that makes sure he can receive help when he needs it. It has a feature called the inactivity detector that notices when he hasn’t moved and alerts the authorities.

Life Alert has other great features as well. There is a smoke detector and a pushbutton system that he can use if he feels that he needs too. I feel a lot better knowing that he is not alone even when he is. This is a great use of technology and I have no problem taking advantage Life Alert to ensure my dad is safe. Now we can go fishing and really enjoy it!

Kennedy

I am sure that by now everyone has heard about the death of Senator Edward M. Kennedy. The famous Senator has served his country for countless years and deserves the respect that he earned for his trouble. Members of both sides of the isle commend his efforts to improve the lot of the common man.

I wanted to take a moment in remembrance of this American hero. I hope that all will agree that he was a special person and deserves all the respect due to him. I say a final farewell to this great man and hope his legacy will live on.

Barn Doors

With the hot summer approaching, we are ready to turn the air-conditioner on. I always try to wait as long as I can before doing so, as you know how expensive it can be. I explained to the kids that they must use common sense and make sure to close the doors and windows so we don’t end up air-conditioning the whole world!

As it happened, I was the first to break the rules I had just laid down. When taking out the trash the other day, I left the door open behind me as I was just going to be a second. The problem was that I got distracted and was delayed in coming back. When I did, the kids were waiting for me and they all gave me a lecture about leaving doors open. I guess I deserved it.

Our piano

One thing that has become of interest around our house is our old piano. My father played the piano for years in a band and it’s been around for as long as I can remember. I never learned to play myself as I am a little tone deaf. The piano has sat in the spare room for years along with a large stack of piano sheet music and no one has taken advantage of it; that is until now. My son decided he wanted to learn to play.

When he first started, I thought that he would tire of it and quit after a few weeks. To my surprise, he kept up with his lessons and has progressed very well. The problem was that he soon ran out of piano sheet music to play. We were lucky to find a cool site called yokewong.net that had a selection of music to choose from. Now he is playing every day and is thinking of joining a band.

For myself, I am glad to hear the old piano singing out again. Many of my early memories include the piano in some way and I like to hear it played. I am sure that my father would be happy to know that his grandson has taken up the family tradition and all is well.

Music and fun

There are several things my family likes to do. We all enjoy listening to music and we love to travel as well. Whenever possible, we like to put the two together for a great time. It’s not as hard to do as you might think. I know a few tricks that can help make it easier to plan out a trip. Recently, we packed up our things and headed for Ohio to visit my sister. Since we were in the area, we thought we might as well see a concert while we were there. After all, fun is where you find it.
