All Right

I guess everybody knows by now that my cousin recently moved to Texas. She moved there with her new husband and they have settled in their new house. Things have been going very well for them as her husband John found a great job and they love their new environment. There has only been one big snafu so far and that was when Judy found out that her old husband wanted custody of the kids.

Of course, Judy was quite upset and she didn’t really know what to do. She asked me for some advice on the matter and I suggested that she contact an Austin Divorce Lawyer. First responders

I was glad to hear last night that congress passed a bill that is intended to help the first responders for the tragedy of 911. The bill passed by a margin of 206 to 60. The bill provides funds to monitor the health of those who helped clean up the mess after the incident.

The bill will also reopen the compensation fund for survivors and families of the victims. Many of the responders are suffering from asthma and lung problems due to inhaling the dust at the cleanup site. I think it is only right to help these people after all they have done for us.

After the pain

Ever since the oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico by the oil giant BP, there has been a lot of talk about compensation. BP has offered many people settlements with the stipulation that they will not sue the company. While many have accepted the offers, many are skeptical.

The Attorneys generals of at least four states have offered advice to those who have not accepted any offers as of yet. They are saying that it would be wise to consult a lawyer and that they could be eligible for more money. The cases will undoubtedly tie up the courts for years to come.

Charity

Whenever Christmas time rolls around, there are a few things that many people do. One thing we usually do is to donate our time or money to a worthy charity. I feel that’s a great practice and well worth it. I feel good helping others and knowing I am doing my part to support those who are less fortunate.

I have two favorite charities. One is the Salvation Army and the other is the Goodwill. I feel these organizations play a key role in helping our communities stay healthy. I hope everyone will find a worthy organization to donate their time or money too.

Thrift stores

One thing I like to do around this time of year is to visit the local thrift stores. With so many people donating items, you can find some really nice items. There are always numerous clothes to choose from as well as other items such as belts and purses. I went to a couple of stores yesterday and found a really nice piece of glass.

Whenever I go to the store, I like to drop off a few items of my own. It’s not only good to help others, but you usually get a small discount on any items you may find. I hope everyone will take some time to donate a few items to your local thrift store this year!

A struggle

It can be very difficult for a single parent to raise a child. I have a close friend at work that does it and it’s been a very trying time for her. Her son has reached his teenage years and has become very difficult to handle. The boys name is John and he has been getting into a lot of trouble with drugs. He stays out late with his friends sometimes doesn’t come home at all. She has tried everything she knows, but she can’t seem to control him anymore.

I volunteered to help her out in any way I could. The first thing I did was to go on the internet to find teen addiction info. This way I could help her make good decisions about how to go forward. After looking at several sites on the internet, I thought that I would recommend a teen drug rehab program for her son. Getting her son professional help seemed like a good idea to me.

I think that having her son in an environment that was geared toward recovery would help a lot. I think this young man will have a great future if we can take care of this problem. Getting him the teen drug treatment that he needs will be a great first step in that direction. I’m sure that it will all work out.

Charity first

Charity is a virtue. The news today is that a Pennsylvania man will donate $1,000 dollars to any business that hires an unemployed person. Gene Epstein believes that the donations will help encourage businesses to reduce the high unemployment rate one person at a time. Epstein has made a lot of money in real estate and car sales. He wants to give back to the area where he made his fortune.

Scotch Tape

This story may seem a little weird, but by all accounts it’s true. Two men from Russia have won the Nobel Prize. They credit scotch tape as a key element in their experiments. Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov are credited with discovering some of the properties of grapheme. It is a form of carbon that has incredible properties.

This type of carbon is only about one atom thick. The thing about it is that it is 100 times stronger than steel. The new materiel has the potential to be used in many products including airplanes and computers. The men used scotch tape to peel off layers of the material in their research.

Life

Life can bring many twists and turns. There always seems to be a curveball thrown at you when you least expect it. That’s why I was so surprised when I found out that my cousin was having a problem. Sarah is seventeen and she has been hiding a secret. She had gotten mixed up with the wrong people and become addicted to drugs. When the problem was discovered, the whole family wanted to help.

We did a lot of research on the subject and found that it might be best to get professional help. We thought that a teen drug rehab center might be the best answer for her. We knew that getting help was the first step in this type of situation. Sarah was against the idea at first, but she finally realized that taking advantage of teen alcohol rehab would be good for her.

The Queen

No matter where you are from, you have to love Queen Elizabeth ll. She has been a light to the world and an inspiration to us all. That’s why we all took notice when she praised the UN for its humanitarian efforts over the years. She also reminded us all that more work needs to be done all over the world.

The 84 year old queen also thanked all those who have given so much over the years toward making our world a better place. Her view is that the UN is a force for good and should be supported by all those around the world who believe we can make the world a better home for all.
