What was he thinking?

One of my buddies from high school moved to California with some other guys from school.  They moved to Los Angeles.  They had saved up a pretty good amount of money to be able to get an apartment, travel expenses and either have stuff sent to them from home or buy new furniture, well used furniture or what ever they could afford.

I thought they were all doing great from the emails I was getting from them.  They all found a job within a week or so, found an apartment in two days of arriving there and decided to just get some cheap used furniture instead of the cost of shipping their stuff to them.  So on the outside, everything looked fine.  But you can’t always go by what it looks like on the outside, now can you?

Gary, it seems, has started partying pretty heavy and ended up getting a DUI of all the darn things.  I would rather he get that than to end up in an accident and hurting himself or worse yet, someone else.  He told me he got one of the lawyers in a law firm that’s in the top 7% and was started by all former prosecutors.  Sounds like he’s got a good lawyer and maybe can get something worked out.  I just hope he learned his lesson.

Finally got my car fixed

Well I finally got my car back.  No my parents weren’t mad at me for what I did.  They said that was my choice since I pay for my own insurance.  They were proud of the fact that I chose to help a young mother instead of only looking out for myself.  My insurance agent told me that they fixed her car too.  That’s one of the things that has kept my family with Nationwide Insurance.  They get to know you and seem to really care.  You get personal attention I guess is what I mean.

Anyway, the lady that hit me came by my work one evening and thanked me again.  She asked if there was anything she could do for me to pay me back like cook me a home cooked meal.  I just told her to drive safely, take care of her kid and help someone else out in some way when she has the chance.  That’s the way I was taught, when someone does something for you and asks nothing of you then you are to pass it along by returning the favor for someone else.

My car!!!!

I was leaving campus to go to work and some idiot ran a red light and hit me right in the rear fender.  I was so mad that I had to sit in my car and count to about 50 I think it was.  I wanted to get out and rip him a new one for being so stupid but then I saw it was a young mother and she was coming up to me with a baby in her arms to see if I was okay.  I think I scared her when I didn’t hop right out.

I felt so sorry for her because she was crying her eyes out and kept asking me if I was okay and if I was sure I was okay.  She said that her baby had been crying and crying and she was headed to her mothers.  She had taken her eyes off of the road to glance back at the baby and see if she could soothe him and that must be when the light changed.  Her car wasn’t much and I bet she was struggling just to make ends meet.  I felt like a dog for pulling out without looking better myself.

I told her that I would tell the cops that I pulled out to make a right turn and didn’t see her and it would be my fault then and not hers.  I figured I could afford the raise in insurance better than she could.  Besides, that way, my insurance company would fix her car too.  I didn’t know if she had enough insurance to fix her car or if she had a high deductible so she could afford insurance at all.

Yeah, Yeah, that was my good deed for the day.  Now to explain it to my parents.  They won’t be mad though because we have Nationwide insurance and they’re really easy to deal with on things like this.  I had to help her out.  If that had been my mother when I was a baby, I would like to think that there was someone out there that would have done the same thing for her.  Besides, we’re supposed to help each other.

Going skiing with buddies

Heck yeah we’re headed to the slopes.  They aren’t but an hour or so from here and they have been making snow for a long time.  It got cold enough to make snow early this year.  Then there’s been several times that it snowed up to 6 inches at a time so there’s man made and real snow on the slopes.

Mom got me some new skis for Christmas and my grandmother got me some new ski clothes too so I would be warm enough.  She worries too much about me.  Well I was her first grandchild and she helped raise me while Mom worked but then when I was almost 8 years old, my sister was born and Mom stayed home and took care of her.  Anyway, I can’t wait to try out my new duds and skis.

The last time we went skiing, Shane fell and ended up rolling head over feet down the hill and then rolled right into a tree.  It was the funniest thing I have ever seen until we realized he had broken his leg.  Then it wasn’t too funny.  He was out of wrestling for the rest of the year too.  That sucked because he’s a great wrestler.  It really hurt the team last year but hopefully nothing like that will happen to any of us this year.

Back at school

Well I’m back at school and have to work tonight too.  I work as a waiter at TGI Fridays.  I make decent tips there and it’s a good thing too because they sure don’t pay waitstaff much at all.  Besides, I have things I have to pay for like car insurance.  I went online and found a great deal on car insurance and no they don’t have a lizard for their mascot either. 😉

It’s almost amazing what you can find on the Internet if you just keep looking.  I got my new laptop from Dell.com.  It’s a refurbished one but it’s great.  I didn’t have to pay but about 2/3rds of what I would have paid if I had bought a brand new one.  Hey, if I can save a dollar here and there, then I’ve got some to spend on fun.  You know what I’m saying?  I can’t expect my parents to pay for everything like some of the kids up here do.

Welcome, Welcome 2009!!

Boy does this year bring hope and promises.  We have a historic new president that will take on all sorts of problems that I sure wouldn’t want to try and fix.  The economy is a mess.  We have soldiers fighting two wars that need to be brought home from one of them for sure.

Everyone is afraid of losing their jobs or their unemployment if they have already lost their job and no one really knows what to expect of this new year.  It has to be better than the last one or at least I sure hope it is.  There are so many people that have lost over half their investments that were their life’s savings so they could retire comfortably.  Now they’re having to rethink their retirements.  Some people that were already retired are having to try and find a job too.  What a shame.

Jobs are scarce around here.  The housing market is in a mess, banking is in a mess and yet, there is HOPE.  That’s the main thing we all have is HOPE so that’s what we hang on to and pray for a better year.  I sure hope you have HOPE for this new year like I do.  HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!!!!
