Tape

For some reason I had to read about the 3M company on the internet. It tured out to be a really interesting story. The company was founded by three guys who wanted to make money mining in Minnesota. But the stuff they were mining wasn’t worth much and they had to find other ways to making a living. Their business actually lost money for the first 20 years they were running it. Can you imagine holding onto a business that lost money for 20 years straight? No way any banks in today’s world would back them for 20 years. Eventually they starting adding new inventions and selling chemical solutions to industrial problems. The first thing they sold that made money was sandpaper. Then the next thing they made money on was tape. Amazing resilience and  determination from those men.

Family History

They say every family has at least one person who gets interested in the family history. The go-to person in my family is Spencer. He has all the records of our family history. For some reason he got old family bibles, the old photographs and scrapbooks, and even cassette tape recordings by his grandfather. Now they have ways to do more ancestry research online. I might head over to Spencer’s one day and have him show me what what’s got on my family tree.

The Old Richter Scale

richter scale math

Found this logarithm online for the old way of measuring earthquakes, the Richter Scale. Now thy use a slightly different method and call it magnitude. The recent earthquake in Japan was originally called an 8.9, but a couple of days later the decided it was actually a 9.0 magnitude.

In like a Lion

The weather has been so whack. I can’t tell you if March came in like a lion or in like a lamb. Its totally different weather every day. My best guess is that the first week of March was like a lion, although we did have a couple of nicer days. I hope that bodes well for the rest of the month. I am SOOO ready for Spring to come on and get here!

New Camera

Last night my camera got dropped as I was getting out of the car and now it won’t come on. Guess it is time to shop for a new camera and toss this one – but it breaks my heart. I can’t imagine getting a camera repaired for less money than a newer one, with more gadgets and better quality digital. I’m betting I’ll find a better one on sale some where.

I’ve had a Canon, a Sony and a Kodak, but the Nikon commercials have been very persuasive. I think I’ll go camera shopping at the Providence shoppingcenter next weekend and see what’s new and hopefully find a good one on sale.

Like Listening Online

I have three great stereo systems and w al full of Cs, but I haven’t touched any of them in months I have been listening to Pandora Radio online, and its great. I have a good channel for 5 different kinds of moods. Depending on what genre I want, I just pick the channel when I sign on and I’m good to go for hours with the best mix of old and new tunes.

Too Hot to Mow

How can this grass even grow when the temperatures are this hot and there’s no rain? The weeds are especially tall. I don’t understand how the grass and weeds can defy Mother Nature and keep growing? It’s over a hundred degrees and I have to mow the yard.

Maybe in the morning.
