How Dumb Do You Have To Be?

I know that I’m not a parent (at least I don’t think I am!) but I’d like to think that I’d be a pretty good one down the road.  I mean that I think I have at least some common sense that would keep my child from falling out of an open second story window!  I’m saying this as a result of reading an Internet story about an incident that happened in New York a while back, where a baby fell out of an open second story window.

Thank goodness the baby is safe, it was an odd chance of fate that a postal worker was under the window trying to deliver a package when the baby fell on top of the postal worker!  The postal worker managed to catch the baby!  The mother says she put the baby on a bed beside an open window, turned her back for a moment and the baby seized that moment to crawl out the open window and fall out.  So just how dumb do you have to be to put a baby in a position where the baby could even get near an open second floor window?  For crying out loud, put the baby on the floor!  Put strong screens or bars on the window!

There are some people are just too stupid to be parents, and yet they ARE parents anyway.  The stupid gene continues to proliferate.

What Are Green Wines?

Any one who knows me or reads my blog knows that I am totally into the “Green” movement. So when I heard that many a winery are going Green I was thrilled and wanted to learn more about their efforts. I found this Infographic online today and wanted to share it with my readers who are into wine and all things Green.

I usually prefer beer but now and then I can appreciate a nice glass of wine and I really enjoy tasting wines from our local wineries. If any of the local wineries are going Green that I will certainly be buying more wine from them to show my support for their efforts.

Necessary Help for Today’s Teens

The stories of folks looking for teenager addiction help are far from fading away.  The statistics are more than alarming concerning abuse that is still heavily on the rise with our kids, the same kids that will be running the show in the next decade or two or three, if we have any left that are willing and capable of doing so. Now that is a scary thought indeed.

There are a good number of teen treatment program websites all over the Internet full of information and that are offering their help with today’s youth, along with help for a good amount of adults that are struggling with substance abuse as well. Dr. Drew’s Celebrity Rehab show, which is on VH1 I believe is helping people understand and bringing to light a lot of the problems that go along with addiction issues. I can only prey that people are watching and that he is able to help people, no matter what age they are, with this crisis that is affecting way too many people these days. The world has certainly gone crazy, something has to come about and soon folks.

Paint Ball Update

The recent game of paintball ended up being a blast, a good time was had by all. The weather was perfect, no rain or severe heat threatened the days fun. More peopled showed up than I expected but it all worked out and I’m looking forward to the next scheduled game day,

I’m not nearly as tired or sore as I anticipated, since I had not playing a game in some time. So next time I will not be as anxious about the whole ordeal and can relax and enjoy the sport for what it is. I still want to buy my Tippmann A-5 Scenario Paintball Gun as well as the whole darned set that is pictured with it.

Raincoats, a Necessity

A good quality warm raincoat is what I’m currently looking for now that I have spent the last few months out in the wet and cold every morning, afternoon and night doing what needs to be done around the farm and all of the out buildings. The Internet is making this necessary search so much easier, I really like not having to drive town to town, for hours on end, looking for the best possible deal and fit, just sitting by the fire, keeping warm and dry, with my laptop, looking online is definitely the way to go for me.

Insects

I hate black flies, wasps, yellow jackets, horse flies, ticks, fleas, hornets, and mosquitoes. I spend a fortune on insect killing sprays to get rid of as many of them as I can. I don’t like how the mosquitoes come out during the twilight hours and cut short the outdoor fun. I enjoy sitting outside in the cool of the evening. But the mosquitoes usually drive me inside fairly quickly.

They used to be simply annoying, but now that I’ve learned that they spread the West Nile Virus, I don’t want to risk getting sick from them. I’d really love to buy one of those mosquito trap machines that attract the mosquitoes and keeps them from getting to you. That would make life in our yard much more enjoyable, and extend the amount of time I spend outside.

Beginner Saxophone Sheet Music

Digging around the basement this weekend I stumbled onto a box that I had not noticed before, it was full of sheet music for various musical instruments that my mother had tucked away for who knows how long. She had even kept some of the beginner saxophone music that my kid brother used to have to practice along to. Boy oh boy, didn’t Kevin hate practicing that sax and the whole family (as well as many of the neighbors) suffered right along with him. Day after day, week after week, month after month…….

Kevin has always been known for practicing the “misery loves company” theory. I can’t wait to see his face when I pull out this sheet music and stick it in his face at the next family gathering. Not sure if that is going to be on Memorial Day or the 4th of July. But I’ll tuck it away until the time is right.

60 minutes

The other night I was watching the television show 60 minutes, which is one of my favorite news magazine show.  I was especially interested in the story about how a mixture of peanut butter, powdered milk, sugar and vitamins was created and named Plumpynut was created and is being used with great success to feed malnourished children in third world countries.

This was definitely a “feel good” story about how progress is being made to help the needy.  I’m glad I stayed up to watch it.  I hope that the use of Plumpynut spreads to other third world countries to help feed their starving children too.

The Local Diner Sounds Mighty Fine

I have decided that on Sunday evening I will go into town and have dinner at the local diner for a nice change. I have grown weary of cooking for myself each night. Most nights I only have the strength for a quick sandwich and a glass of milk. I’m way over due.

It’s nice to know that they participate with the Farm to Table practice that is getting larger and larger across the whole nation. Being a local farmer, it’s to my best interest to spend my money there.

Safety, Common Sense is Involved

I have several friends that ride their Harleys and they all come from different kinds of backgrounds and a few have careers that you wouldn’t imagine them to have, while sporting the tattoos and all that black leather that is essential for any rider. Several times a year, I will hear the sound of Harleys coming down our road and then continue on coming up all the way into the driveway. I end up having quite a good old time with some very interesting folks who have come by for a entertaining visit.

We have heard so many stories of fallen brothers that have been killed or severally injured while riding their bikes, and all of my “Biker” friends seem very adamant about safety issues that are mostly just common sense if you ask me. There are many places no that anyone can go to and purchase all types of motorcycle safety clothing and helmets at great discount offerings along with all types of accessories that play an important part of motorcycle riding.
