It’s Now or Never To Buy Myself A Banjo

So far the best starter banjos that I have found online are going for some pretty decent discounts. It feels good taking my time and doing research on finding the best deal ever before placing an order. Last week I discovered a few gift cards that I had received for Christmas and had tucked away so it seems to be a good time to get myself my dream banjo musicians friend. Besides I should be getting a decent tax refund here pretty soon.

This year I promised to use some of the money for something that I would really enjoy, so it’s now or never. It will be nice to be able to play around at night after a long hot day working the farm. They say that this will be an extremely hot and humid summer, ugh!

Time For A New Wallet

My wallet is becoming thicker each week, not with cash mind you, but with all the plastic membership and discount cards that almost all the stores are offering their customers in order to receive discounted products. This is really getting to be a pain in the rear. And know I need to buy a new wallet next time I’m in town.

I understand the importance of businesses having this marketing power but it would just be nice if they offered their discounted prices to everyone and stop over loading us with these pesky cards that are straining our wallets to the point of wearing out our wallets before they should be wearing out.

The Need For Updated Kitchen Applicances

There is no way around the fact some of the things around here are going to have to be replaced with more updated and current products that are available in the 21st century. The Refrigerators back in the day when this model came out are now pretty much obsolete and parts are hard to find so a new one is going to be a necessity any day now, I’m afraid.

Once one appliance goes it always seems to be just the beginning of more things having issues.  The Dishwasher doesn’t even get used since I’m the only one here most of the time, it would take over a week to fill that sucker up and I don’t have a large amount of dinnerware that can be used in today’s Microwave Ovens, mother didn’t cook in the microwave,  that is where I do a good amount of my cooking I’m afraid.

Cooking for one can be a real drag day in and day out. As a matter of fact living alone is getting old night after night, as well. But anyway I think that I will start looking around online at night and see what types are out there that would look good and fit in the spaces available, some newer ones are larger and some are made more compact these days. It will be a challenge but I’ve got to do it sooner or later. Of course I will check out to see what they can help me with. Might as well be prepared and no what I’m getting myself into.

New Phone System Issues

One of the Christmas gifts that I received this last year was a new house phone. The one that was hooked up here at the house was so very old and in need up an updated version, so my sister purchased a whole new phone system for place and presented it to me on Christmas day.

Unfortunately I am not impressed with the way that it works and am going to have to request the receipt so that I may trade it in for a system that does what I need it to do. This new one will not allow you to push any buttons for passwords, zip codes, account numbers or the like that are required by many businesses that I deal with on the phone. It acts like an old rotary phone and no ones system is acknowledging any of the numbers that I press and that is a real issue.

I hate to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I really need a phone system that makes life easier, not more of a hassle than it all ready is and will be talking with my sister concerning this later this evening after dinner.

Obvious Solutions

Sometimes the most obvious solution is right in front of us, yet for some reason we just don’t see it. When we use common sense in life things do tend to be a little bit easier. This subject came up after reading an article on gas prices, where it state that only 10% of Americans work from home. You would think that with the increase in gas prices that that number would have at least doubled by now.

Fortunately for those few they are saving a lot of money and time (without the commute). Unfortunately for the rest of us one reason why we still drive into the office is because employers do not trust us. That was the top reason why a lot of companies did not want their employees to work from home. Other reasons revolved around the work that needed to be done. For example, if you work the front desk at a hotel you need to be there in person. I guess the only thing we can do is hope and pray that the economy will improve in the near future

Groundhog Day 2016

Today is Groundhog Day. If this furry little varmint sees his shadow, then we are doomed to six more weeks of winter. If he does not, then Spring is just around the corner – 6 weeks or less. I personally don’t see the logic in this. If you don’t see your shadow, it’s because the sun is behind a bunch of clouds. What does that have to do with foretelling the speed of spring’s approach? Spring will get here in her own good time.

In these parts, spring does not come in February, no matter what shadows lurk around groundhog holes, although yesterday we did enjoy warm temps – it hit 60 degrees and felt great when I took the dogs out for their walk. So February takes up 4 weeks of winter, regardless of the shadow seeing moment. The question then becomes, how far into March do we have cold weather? Does a quick spring conflict with the other old saying, “If March comes in like a lion then it goes out like a lamb”? I say, welcome the lion and forget the groundhog!

No Snow Could Mean Possible Early Drought Like Conditions Around Here

In many ways we have been extremely lucky this winter with the small amount of snow that we have had to deal with last week. Other than that one time we haven’t had squat, which has made this winter a much easier one to get a handle on since I haven’t had to be out and about getting about the business around here at the farm under control when we get snow. Other places haven’t been all that lucky and have had to deal with severe snowstorms all winter. It is only in my area that the snow removal companies aren’t making any money and the kids are still going to school, but who knows when this blessing will come to end.

The only good thing about getting snow is being able to enjoy it with a child for a few days and the fact that our grounds aren’t getting the soaking that they are used to getting each winter, so we may have drought conditions even earlier in the year this summer. That wouldn’t be a good thing for farmers such as myself and all kinds of other people that depend on the earth’s harvests that we rely on for food and other products. Well we still have another month or so to go before spring arrives, so if it is going to snow I just wish that it would get on with it and get her done. I have lots of animals that don’t appreciate the snow storms either, but I’m ready for it when the time comes, it could be very well a real dozy.

Christmas Shopping All Done Online This Year

It didn’t take me as long as I thought to find and purchase a wonderful Rickenbacker Guitar via the Internet last week Rickenbacker. This much anticipated package arrived this morning at my door, which gives me plenty of time to get it wrapped up and put up in the guest room along with the other presents that I plan on taking to my sister’s house tomorrow morning. I haven’t seen anyone on that side of the family since Thanksgiving, People have gotten way too busy and when a major holiday comes around it really messes things up.

I am thrilled with the fact that I got all of my Christmas shopping done online this year. I didn’t have to go to any brick and mortar stores for anything, including the wrapping paper and ribbons. I had plenty of scotch tape and gift labels left over from last year, so I didn’t have to worry about those items, but I’m sure I will need to replenish my supply before next Christmas comes around.

Getting Rid of Junk Mail

This is great! A must read. ?

CBS Newsman Tips for Handling Telemarketers. Three Little Words That Work!!

(1)The three little words are: ‘Hold On , Please….’Saying this, while putting down your phone and walking off (instead of hanging-up immediately) would make each telemarketing call so much more time-consuming that boiler room sales would grind to a halt. Then when you eventually hear the phone company’s ‘beep-beep-beep’ tone, you know it’s time to go back and hang up your hand set, which has efficiently completed its task. These three little words will help eliminate telephone soliciting.

(2) Do you ever get those annoying phone calls with no one on the other end? This is a telemarketing technique where a machine makes phone calls and records the time of day when a person answers the phone. This technique is used to determine the best time of day for a ‘real’ sales person to call back and get someone at home. What you can do after answering, if you notice there is no one there, is to immediately start hitting your # button on the phone, 6 or 7 times, as quickly as possible. This confuses the machine that dialed the call and it kicks your number out of their system. Gosh, what a shame not to have your name in their system any longer !!!

(3) Junk Mail Help: When you get ‘ads’ enclosed with your phone or utility bill, return these ‘ads’ with your payment. Let the sending companies throw their own junk mail away. When you get those ‘pre-approved’ letters in the mail for everything from credit cards to 2nd mortgages and similar type junk, do not throw away the return envelope. Most of these come with postage-paid return envelopes, right? It costs them more  than the regular 41 cents postage ‘IF’ and when they receive them back.  It costs them nothing if you throw them away! The postage was around 50 cents before the last increase and it is according to the weight. In that case, why not get rid of some of your other junk mail and put it in these cool little, postage-paid return envelopes.

One of Andy Rooney’s (60 minutes) ideas.Send an ad for your local chimney cleaner to American Express. Send a pizza coupon to Citibank. If you didn’t get anything else that day, then just send them their blank application back! If you want to remain anonymous, just make sure your name isn’t on anything you send them. You can even send the envelope back empty if you want to just to keep them guessing! It still costs them 41 cents. The banks and credit card companies are currently getting a lot of their own junk back in the mail, but folks, we need to OVERWHELM them. Let’s let them know what it’s like to get lots of junk mail, and best of all they’re paying for it…Twice! Let’s help keep our postal service busy since they are saying that e-mail is cutting into their business profits, and that’s why they need to increase postage costs again You get the idea ! If enough people follow these tips, it will work —- My friend has been doing this for years, and she get very little junk mail anymore. THIS JUST MIGHT BE ONE E-MAIL THAT YOU WILL WANT TO FORWARD TO YOUR FRIENDS
