Birdhouses and Feeders

My parents used to love putting up birdhouses, they really enjoyed finding interesting birdhouses and feeders here and there and the back part of the yard is filled with numerous varieties of them that are still hanging about. Some are really old and in bad shape, so I’ve been contemplating taking some of those down and trashing them and looking for some new ones to replace them with that would fill in the gaps that will be left.

My father made some of them that are out there himself and I hate to toss any of those out, guess I’ll have to take all things in consideration when I take on this task. Dad was a very handy man and made so many things that I have to decide upon what to do with at some point, not a cheerful chore to even to think about.

This one is my all time favorite. I have no clue where he came up with this one, but it has always fascinated me. I don’t know if he made it or if he bought it or was given to him. Too bad I’ll never know the story behind it.

Chili Dogs

It’s so hot and humid out there and I have been working up an appetite. I thought I had something in the kitchen to fix for lunch, but nothing looked good. I ended up driving out to Sonic and getting two chili dogs with tater tots. Their coffee is pretty good, too.

The thing about Sonic is that you get a foot long hot dog and a nice thick chili sauce on top. But if you want anything else, you have to be sure and ask for it when you place the order. I like cheese and chopped onions on mine, so that’s what I ask for. Every once in a while it’s nice to add some chopped jalapenos on there, too!

My Fender Kurt Cobain Mustang

Okay, I have gone ahead and submitted my order for the fender kurt cobain mustang. It has taken a couple of weeks to decide which one to actual commit to purchasing such an extreme gift to myself, but what’s done is done. Considering I really feel the need to play the  guitar, at the end of the day I think I made a good choice.

Now all I have to do is waiting for it to arrive at the post office. They won’t deliver any packages to my mailbox since I live pretty far out in the boonies and the mailbox is almost a 1/4 drive down the driveway and who know who could grab it and drive away with it. So it doesn’t bother me to have to drive to the post office to pick up any packages, it’s only about four miles down the road and the Post Master is a good friend of the family. It’s always good to catch up with what is going on with everyone in town. If something is going on you can bet the Post Master will know before most people.

Raincoats, a Necessity

A good quality warm raincoat is what I’m currently looking for now that I have spent the last few months out in the wet and cold every morning, afternoon and night doing what needs to be done around the farm and all of the out buildings. The Internet is making this necessary search so much easier, I really like not having to drive town to town, for hours on end, looking for the best possible deal and fit, just sitting by the fire, keeping warm and dry, with my laptop, looking online is definitely the way to go for me.

Beginner Saxophone Sheet Music

Digging around the basement this weekend I stumbled onto a box that I had not noticed before, it was full of sheet music for various musical instruments that my mother had tucked away for who knows how long. She had even kept some of the beginner saxophone music that my kid brother used to have to practice along to. Boy oh boy, didn’t Kevin hate practicing that sax and the whole family (as well as many of the neighbors) suffered right along with him. Day after day, week after week, month after month…….

Kevin has always been known for practicing the “misery loves company” theory. I can’t wait to see his face when I pull out this sheet music and stick it in his face at the next family gathering. Not sure if that is going to be on Memorial Day or the 4th of July. But I’ll tuck it away until the time is right.

60 minutes

The other night I was watching the television show 60 minutes, which is one of my favorite news magazine show.  I was especially interested in the story about how a mixture of peanut butter, powdered milk, sugar and vitamins was created and named Plumpynut was created and is being used with great success to feed malnourished children in third world countries.

This was definitely a “feel good” story about how progress is being made to help the needy.  I’m glad I stayed up to watch it.  I hope that the use of Plumpynut spreads to other third world countries to help feed their starving children too.

The Local Diner Sounds Mighty Fine

I have decided that on Sunday evening I will go into town and have dinner at the local diner for a nice change. I have grown weary of cooking for myself each night. Most nights I only have the strength for a quick sandwich and a glass of milk. I’m way over due.

It’s nice to know that they participate with the Farm to Table practice that is getting larger and larger across the whole nation. Being a local farmer, it’s to my best interest to spend my money there.

Recycled Bottleneck Guitar Slides

This bottleneck guitar slide is really made from an actual wine bottle. Whenever I discover a product and/or service that is offering something that is recycled or any of the other various ways to help keep our earth as safe as possible, I get a bit excited and try to spend my hard earned money that I earn on this piece of dirt that God has allowed me to utilize to survive.

Looks like I’ll be buying one of these babies here real soon. The farm is going to get real busy here real soon. Spring is my favorite of the four seasons, but it is a lot of work to get everything around here done and ready for the hot summer months.

Green 911

The farm has always had issues, at one time or another, with a variety of pests, so I’ve always got my eyes open for different organic pest control info that would benefit us all the way around. This year the corn earworms are supposed to be hitting us bad, which is very disturbing news indeed, considering that corn earworms do major damage to other plants as well. The tomato plant and cotton also is a favorite of these nasty little moths and I don’t look forward to having to deal with this time around.

Organic bug control is the only way to go, in my mind. Too many chemicals have been used in the past around here at the farm, but those days are over and I intend to change a lot of things that I have in power to do so. I’m all about going as “Green” as I possibly can, when ever I can.

I’d like to share with you the following video that can be found online on YouTube. It is a five minute segment that speaks of Safer® brand and its wide range of OMRI Listed® Organic pest control products in a recent show, that I have found most informative and interesting and very relevant to this organic pest control.
