My Love for Real Life Murder Mystery

Guest post of the week by Bradley Guthrie

I’ve never been a real fan of true crime television. I didn’t want to hear about armed robberies, murders, and kidnappings at the end of my day. Then one day my brother introduced me to The First 48. In this show real life homicide detectives take us through 48 hours of a murder case. The catch being that if a suspect isn’t found within the first 48 hours of the investigation then the chances of solving the case are drastically cut.

The draw in for me was the fact that they show the true range of emotions of the investigators. You can tell they have a real emotional tie to the case and more than anything they want to see the grieving friends and family get closure. They are passionate about their jobs and it shows through in all they do. The interrogations are also shown, as well as witness interviews.

I find myself actually seeking the show out when I flip on my free satellite tv. I’ve spent hours trying to solve the cases along with the investigators, even crying along with friends and family members when interviewed. When they catch a murderer I chalk one up for the good guys. Maybe a change of profession is in order for me.

School Days

It seems that they are starting school earlier and earlier each year. When I used to go to school it was always the day after Labor Day. But I’ve spoken with many parents who are telling me that their kids have all ready started school or are about too in the next week or two.

I think the way that they did it when I was going to school made more sense. It was constant and consistent, which made vacation plans an easier task to tackle.

Hitting up Buckle for Back to School Clothes

Today’s Guest Post

Author: Theresa Guerrero

My cousin was recently in town and he needed some new clothes. He lives in the middle of nowhere in Iowa. There are no malls for 45 minutes and it is almost impossible to go clothes shopping anywhere except at Walmart. He decided that since he was in town we needed to go to the mall to find him some new clothes.

Before we left for the mall, I made sure to set my first alert alarm. Once we got to the mall, he could not decide which store he wanted to go into first. Finally, we ended up going into a store that sold hats. I thought that was dumb. Who needs hats for school? Next we went into Buckle. This store is somewhat unique because it has personal shoppers for each customer. It took him over 90 minutes to purchase two shirts and a necklace. The shirts were nicer for the times he was going to have to dress up for presentations. Still, I have never spent thirty minutes per piece of clothing in any store. Back to school shopping drives me insane!

Comfort Zone Camp

I watched a story on the news about a camp designed to help kids that have lost a loved one. Comfort Zone Camp is in 5 states and is working wonders for hundreds of kids each year. It is so good to see a good story on the news for once.

Hopes & Dreams

I’ve always wanted to have a nice back or side yard all fixed up with all of the trimmings that are available these days for outdoor use. A nice 2 person hot tub, with a fully stocked bar, a nice sound system is a must. But what would be really awesome would be an outdoor TV to really top it off with. Of course it would need one of those outdoor tv enclosures that would protect it from all the elements that go with being outside. It is amazing what they have come up with, right?

It isn’t like I get a lot of company around the place but one day I’d like to be able to entertain the way I’d like to. Right now there is so much that needs to be done around this old farm and the house and all of the out buildings that it doesn’t leave much time or energy to hook up with many local folks. But I’ll keep trucking along as best as I can, who knows what the future will bring to me or to the home stead. Hopefully I have a few good years left in me to offer someone special.  LOL

Face Book

I’ve been told how wonderful Face Book is, but I have held back from checking it out, that is until last night. I finally got the courage and the time to go in and sign up. I have a lot to learn but I’m up for the challenge, will see how it goes.

Willie Nelson

I have always been a Willie Nelson fan. I never seem to tire of hearing his songs and I’m grateful to YouTube.com for allowing me to listen to all of his wonderful music and watching the videos are a plus as well. One of my favorites of Willie’s is “I’ll Never Smoke Weed With Willie Again” it isn’t one that you hear on the radio and I haven’t heard it in years, so I thought I’d post it here today.

Thank God for The Comedy Channel & Sinbad

Most people got to enjoy a three day weekend, with pay over the 4th of July. This isn’t the case for anyone who runs a farm, as I do. The work still needs to be done no matter what day or holiday it is. I did manage to cut the hours back just a bit and got to get in out of the heat that has been just crazy for the past couple of weeks. Our spring was cut short big time this year and we headed straight into the 90’s and the 100’s just like that.

I was glad that the Comedy Channel had nothing but comedians on all weekend long. I do believe that laughter is the best medicine and watching these stand up comedians gave me some decent laughter, which was really appreciated and needed over the weekend. Sinbad was the best of them all and I hope to see more of him. He hasn’t been around much lately and hopefully with make a serious come back once and for all.

Yesterday was Father’s Day June 20 2010

Well, yesterday was Father’s Day.  Which meant another trip to the cemetery with another bouquet of flowers.  The weather was good, and I sat for a while, but not as long as last time.  In the past my Dad and I used to spend Father’s Day together fishing in the pond out in the back forty, so after staying a while in the cemetery I went back home, put on his fishing hat and shirt, grabbed his favorite fishing rod and went fishing.  He would have wanted that.  I didn’t catch anything, but that’s OK.  I would’ve released it anyway.

Cool Waters

It has been so hot these past couple of days, it’s been a real killer considering it is still only May. We have been told that since it was such a bad winter that a bad summer will follow. I think someone actually knew what they were talking about.

The farm animals have been miserable as well. I’ve been trying extra hard to keep plenty of cool water available to them as much as possible. And I’ve been washing the vehicles more than usual just to have the opportunity to get some relief with the cool waters that come out of the hose for myself in the mean time.
