Wet and Cold

These are the worst of weather days here at the farm, below freezing with the rain and snow is on the way later in the evening. Waking up in the early a.m. to a damp and cold day makes the morning hard to face, and manuver around, but it has to be done. My milking cows aren’t in the most pleasant of moods either on mornings like this, cold hands on their utters make the daily task of milking a most unpleasant experience for them and me both.

A good day to be near a hot fire with a good hot meal in hand.

An Anxious Boat Enthusiast

These wonderful High Intensity Discharge lights that they have available these days are a truly a most useful tool, especially for boaters that find themselves in need of a good lighting system, such as my brother-in-law found himself in just the other day.

He had received some nice HID boat spotlights, by Magnalight for Christmas and some other boating accessories as well, that he was very anxious to try out and did, on a day that most people wouldn’t venture onto the water on, but as I stated he was a bit anxious. He got a late start and ended up out farther than he calculated on and it got dark quickly on him and he ended up losing his way, all alone, wet and cold. A good thing that he is an experienced water man because it could have ended up real ugly.

He certainly got the opportunity to use his newly acquired spotlight and got home safe and sound, just his ego was bruised a bit, but he has a sense of humor and has made a good entertaining story out of the whole deal that will be told for years to come.

Down Time, During the Snow

Today was promised to be a nice day all week long by the local news weatherman, and I was looking forward to getting a few things done around the place outside and in some of the out buildings today. Once again all of their technology which is used for weather forecasting has done us wrong, this happens way too often and gets my dander up when it occurs on occasion.

Looks like I will be spending most of the day taking on some much needed inside projects and tasks, while keeping a good fire burning to keep the place warm during this below freezing weekday, down at the farm.

New And Improved Park and Playground In The Works

I’m so glad to see that they are finally go start to fix up the park and playground that I have been visiting all my life and spent many years as a young boy playing at. It has deteriorated so badly the last decade or so that it was becoming a safety hazard and an eye sore for way too long. I know that there has been a lot of cut backs but something like this just can’t be left to rot for heaven’s sake.

I hear that they have ordered new playground equipment for the kids to play on as well as new Park Benches and Picnic Tables as well for families to us and enjoy. I am assuming that they will be using the new rubberized playground equipment which is so much than the old wooden equipment that was used back in my day. Can’t tell you how many splinters we all got from that junky old rotten wood. Today’s kids don’t know how good they have it, I can tell you that!

They plan on having everything ready, good to go for next spring. We will see if they manage to hit that target date or not.

Gonna Be A Bit Pro Active Here Folks

I can’t even begin to imagine what it would be if I had to deal with a case of identity theft. What a nightmare that would turn out to be. That is why I am trying the 30 Day Free Trial that Identity Hawk has to offer. I found this offer while surfing the Internet a while back and I was interested enough to book mark their site while contemplating the subject for a time and now is the time to go ahead and take action before something like this happens.

Identity Hawk numerous ways to protect people from identity theft protection and I would anyone to go to their site and see what they have to offer and if it is something that could help you or other people that you know and love. This is a growing problem, one that I don’t believe is ever going to go away, what a crazy world we live in today folks. It isn’t as if we don’t have a million other things to worry about and deal with, like right now Mother Nature is taking it’s toll on us that are living on the east coast. My poor sister is really freaked out and wants me to come over there, which she knows is so totally out of the question. I mean how could I possibly leave the farm and all the animals to go hide out with her and her family.

McDonald’s Sweet Tea

I have not been a big fan of McDonald’s for some time now. After eating so much of their food for so many years I got totally burned out on it some time back. I do have to say that their sweet tea is the best iced tea ever and you just can’t beat the price anywhere else, a large sweet tea anywhere else will cost you at least double that and if you dine in you can have free refills as much as you like. Just don’t purchase it through the drive through or as take out because trying to get a refill that way is a real non-no. So as much as I like zipping through drive through it is worth it for me to go in and order and eat in the cool air conditioning and get as many free refills that I can guzzle down before heading out again into the summer’s heat.

Too Bad That Youth Is Wasted On The Young!

I’m so glad that we are being able to enjoy some nice weather days and evenings for a change. After weeks of dealing with the temperature being in the high 90’s and the 100’s, these past couple of days in the 80’s are just awesome. As I’m getting older it is becoming harder to deal with such extreme weather, but at least we are not dealing with tornadoes, hurricanes and all the other extreme weather that seems to be devastating so much of our country these past couple of months. We did have to deal with way too much rain this past Spring, but at least it is better than not having enough rain, which has happened too often lately. Without rain a farm like mine can go into ruins real quick like.

Last night I actually had some free time that I got to enjoy outside before hitting the sack. This is something that I don’t get to do very often as an adult. As kids we would spend a lot of time on the front porch and in the front yard, catching fireflies, playing Kick The Can, Hide and Seek, and roasting marshmallows and making those wonderful S’mores with tons of chocolate dripping all down our arms. It sucks that youth and wasted on the young.

A Skiers Paradise

I appreciate the guest post, Jewel Rodgers

Winter Park, Colorado is truly a skier’s paradise. With virtually no lift lines and a mountain that boasts mogul skiing at it’s best, this is a favorite spot of mine.

Once I load up the skies and dogs, set the home security alarm (home Alarm systems prices) and head west, I always find time to stop at Beau Jo’s pizza in Idaho Springs on the way. They have the best pizza and it’s a Colorado tradition. My drive continues up Berthold Pass (which can be dicey so check the weather reports) and back down into Winter Park. It’s an old skiers town. There’s nothing fancy here. No fur coats, no expensive accomodations, just the awesome mountain and a ton of snow! I like to go directly to Mary Jane. This is the mogul mountain. After a day skiing the bumps I’ll hop back over to the base of Winter Park and enjoy some groomed runs. Everyone is friendly and happy in Winter Park. There’s no pretense of anything fancy. We are all there to conquer the same thing…the mountain.

An Upgrade To Even A High Number of Devastating

It is all most 4 a.m. and I am still awake and plugging away on my computer. I have been having a bought of sleeplessness this past week for some unknown reason. Even though it is Saturday night and most people wouldn’t think of it being too big of a deal since most people are able to sleep in on their Sunday mornings. We, the farmers of the world, on the other hand have to get up with the chickens seven days a week, no matter what, no excuses, that’s a fact, jack!

Anyway, there isn’t a whole lot to pick from on the TV to watch in the wee hours of the morning, even though I have cable and there are tons channels to choose from. As I’m just about to change the channel a news story broke telling us that the earthquake that is still devastating Japan and other area’s has been upgraded from a 8.9 to a 9 on The Richter Scale. Isn’t that something, I’ve never heard of an earthquake with that high of a number on The Richter Scale. Most of the times we hear of these powerful rumblings being in the 6’s or very low 7’s, so this is just unheard of.

Wonderful Rain Chains For Mother’s Day

I have the perfect gift to give some one like my late-mother for Mother’s Day or any other gift giving holiday would be good as well. I’ve never seen one before, although I’ve heard the term “chains rain” before. But as I was mindlessly surfing the net earlier this evening I was looking at some rain barrels that would come in handy around here, when I came across a site that sells the most wonderful looking rain chains. My mother would have loved the umbrella one and my old man would have really enjoyed the fish rain chain, both of which I’ve posted a picture of below so you can see how cool these babies are.

There are plenty more rain chains on the website that I found these at. Rainchainlink.com offers Free Shipping on all their orders, they also have a link to some pretty nice looking unique rain barrells that I was eye balling as well. Since we didn’t have much snow this winter we are being told that we can look forward to another summer that we have to watch our water supply and possibly have to comply with mandatory water restrictions like we have had to do on and off for the past decade or so.

Right now we may be sick of all the rain, but it is helping with some water issues that are literally right around the corner.
