Home Invasions

Contribution by Kennith Griffin

I usually don’t watch the news when I get home from work because it is all just so depressing. There are so many people getting shot and robbed and whatever else that I don’t even want to see what is going on out there in the world. I am only worried about what is going on in my world except when what happens out there happens a little too close to home. The other night I flipped on the tv when I got home and heard a story about a home invasion that happened not too far from my neighborhood. This of course caught my attention immediately and I started to worry about the family that was in the house. I thought it might be a good time to call ADT Security Illinois to talk about getting an alarm system installed in our home. Even though an alarm can’t prevent something like that from happening it can hopefully deter someone who sees the sign in my front yard and if it doesn’t I can have the comfort that my systems is monitored and if I hit a panic button the police will be on their way.

Inflammation Relief From Nopalea

It seems that I just can’t get away from hearing so many depressing stories from people all around me that are suffering from one or more health conditions. I guess the older I get the older other people are getting and with age comes health issues, what a crazy vicious cycle of life that we are stuck in. It really makes me wonder what I am going to be in store for the older I get. I all ready deal with a few health problems, nothing serious but enough to keep me going to the doctors more often that I would like to be going.

Inflammation seems to be a great concern for many of us and I’ve been told about a product called Nopalea that is supposed to help your body neutralize it’s inner toxins which helps reduce it’s inflammation issues. Nopalea comes from the Nopal cactus and it has been used by native peoples for centuries. We can now benefit from this cactus ourselves these days, it comes in a 32 ounce bottle and you can receive a free bottle of this wellness drink by calling 1-800-206-0086 and only pay the shipping and handling charges in order to try it for yourself.

I’ve all ready called for my free sample earlier today. I’ll let you know when I receive it and see how it tastes. I’m a pretty picker eater/drinker, if I can’t get it past my nose then there is no way it is going into my mouth, even if I know that it is something that is good for me and will benefit me well after I swallow it.

Mending fences

Well yesterday was a little more work than I had planned on.  Some drunk lost control of his truck and ran off the road and through one of my fences.  Some of the cattle escaped the pasture.  So I had to spend several hours rounding up the escapees and moving them to a different pasture while I mended the broken fence.  This happens from time to time, so I always have the materials on hand to mend the fences, but it is always an aggravation when it happens.  I wish all cars and trucks had a meter in them that tested the breath of the driver and if they register as having too much alcohol in them the vehicle wouldn’t start.  It was a drunk driver that caused the accident that killed my parents, so I don’t have a lot of patience or empathy for any of them.

A Court Reporter In The Family

With so many jobs being taken away due to so many of today’s technologies that have taken the place of jobs that have previously been handled by “real people” I am so glad to know that Court Reporting is still being done by humans. For some reason I really thought that Court Reporters were a thing of the past, so I was pleasantly surprised when I found that one of my nieces was going to work as one come the first of the year. It’s not the career that I envisioned her getting into but it certainly isn’t a bad choice for her at this point in her life.

I have always been one to refuse using those self check out options at all of the grocery stores for various reasons. The main one is that I would not like to see our cashiers jobs taken away. Too many jobs have been lost over these past several years and it doesn’t look like many jobs are going to be opening up any time soon. I have to admit that I also enjoy having someone to talk with and do the work for me!

Charity Comes From the Heart

My sister’s husband and his co-workers are always getting involved with some sort of community service or a fundraising activity. Like at Christmas, they all pitched in and adopted a local low income family to supply all kinds of goods to help them get through the Holiday Season easier and they say that you can always find a booklet or two or pamphlets in the break room for people to order things for some type of fundraising for their kids from school, church, or sports.

I think that it is a very good positive attitude to have when there are so many people out there that need help. Their latest approach is in a lupus fundraising attempt, in which they have gone “high tech” and have enlisted the assistance of the World Wide Web through a company called Firstgiving, the link to their home page being Firstgiving.com. Firstgiving makes it possible for anybody to raise money on-line for any cause that they see fit to. You actually go on-line and make your own on-line fundraising page that can then be emailed to people to enlist them into giving an on-line donation. I find this whole idea fascinating and couldn’t wait to bring it up on our PC at home. And when I did bring up the site I really was impressed with what I saw, and I would encourage anybody to check it out also, it is a site that is full of good positive things, we need more of these, don’t you agree.

The reason for choosing this horrible disease by the name of Lupus, apparently is because one of the top management guys has a teen-age daughter inflicted with this health issue and he is very popular with all of the workers and they want to show him their respect by coordinating this fundraiser because of his daughter. I wish them all the luck in the world and give them nothing less than respect that they so highly deserve for their efforts.

New And Improved Park and Playground In The Works

I’m so glad to see that they are finally go start to fix up the park and playground that I have been visiting all my life and spent many years as a young boy playing at. It has deteriorated so badly the last decade or so that it was becoming a safety hazard and an eye sore for way too long. I know that there has been a lot of cut backs but something like this just can’t be left to rot for heaven’s sake.

I hear that they have ordered new playground equipment for the kids to play on as well as new Park Benches and Picnic Tables as well for families to us and enjoy. I am assuming that they will be using the new rubberized playground equipment which is so much than the old wooden equipment that was used back in my day. Can’t tell you how many splinters we all got from that junky old rotten wood. Today’s kids don’t know how good they have it, I can tell you that!

They plan on having everything ready, good to go for next spring. We will see if they manage to hit that target date or not.

Today’s Music

My other nephew has just hit the teen years of his life and has changed from the cute little boy that loved Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers, into a total rebel against anyone and everyone. A big part of this change in him, I believe has to do with the music he had been introduced to by his older brother, which is mainly Rap.

I don’t understand why parents let their kids listen to music that promotes disrespect to most women and then expect them to stick with innocence. We should all try to make a difference in this matter, or else our newest generation will live life with the wrong outlook on what life is really about and live in a fantasy or dream world for most of their lives.

My Daughter’s Protest

Guest written by our friend Gladys Fuentes

My oldest daughter asked us last night if she could ride her bike to school this year like the big kids. I almost choked on the water I was drinking and demanded to know why she wanted to do this. She feels that since her sister will be starting preschool, she will be a baby. My oldest feels like she is a big girl and wants to ride her bike like a big girl. Of course, she is too young to ride to school by herself. I tried to calmly explain this to her but she was not listening. She wanted to be a big girl. I was at a lost for words and suffering a headache. I did not want to have this conversation. So my husband went to www.allHOMESECURITY.com to see if he could find something to read to her. She seems to trust anything that comes off of the computer. I can see that being a problem later, but for now it might work. Whatever he read to her seemed to work. She is content with being at the bus stop with her sister.

It’s All About Getting The Best Bang For Your Buck

We are all looking for ways to cut back on our expenses these past couple of years. There is a lot of information on the TV about ways to reduce your expenses, but for folks like me that don’t get to see much TV, we depend on the Internet for information and tips instead. I just watched a clip on a new book, “Living Large in Lean Times”, that was just recently released by Clark Howard, a money expert, who is famous for giving us all kinds of advice on how to get the best bang for our buck and how to avoid being ripped off in the process. I don’t have much time for books these days but hearing short clips like this that let you know that you can get prescription eyeglasses for $7 at ZenniOptical or that you can extend the life of your razor just by drying it after each use, I can take in small doses and not get over whelmed with too much information.

Shopping online is the way to go these days, especially for people like me that don’t live right in town, the nearest town to me is over 35 miles away, so running into town is a time consuming chore and takes a lot of gas just to save a couple of bucks on something that is on sale. With so many companies catering to the ever growing online shopping population you can find great deals all over the Internet and if you stick with only the companies that provide you with free shipping you can really make out on top. Let them bring it to me, yes indeed, that is what I’m talking about.

Virginia State Car Inspections

Here in Virginia we have to have our vehicles inspected once a year. It is a pain the rear, but I can understand the reasoning behind this mandatory law. If your vehicle isn’t able to pass this state inspection then you are putting yourself and everyone else that is on the roads with you are are in danger as well and that just isn’t cool. So I believe that for $16 a year it is well worth the time and money that it takes to have this done. I just wish more automotive service centers offered this for their customers and that more of them stayed open on Saturdays to do the job. For some reason a most of them close at noon on Saturdays and apparently it is against the law to do these inspections on Sunday, which makes no sense to me what-so-ever and I have never found anyone that can explain to me why this is the case.
