A Wake Up Call

I find it very disturbing that there are so many people who have let themselves go and have become grossly over weight. No one can deny the fact that when out in public the amount of people that you come across need to loss weight, and I’m not talking about the folks that could take off 10 or 20 pounds, but more the likes of needing to get rid of 50 to 100 pounds of blubber, ugh….While listening to the local news last night, I heard a new story that tells us that the numbers are in, statistics are now showing that 2/3 of the U.S. population are over weight! That is a ridiculous number and if that isn’t a wake up call, I don’t know what is.

Facebook, a Social Network

Did you know that changes at Facebook affected all of social networking? The article in the New York Times details the evolution of Facebook by it’s college grad founder, Mark Zuckerberg. Interestingly, he saw a shortcoming and created a way to overcome that. Thus the concept of news feed and Twitter was invented.Read the details of the New York Times article, “Brave New World of Digital Intimacy” by clicking here. It is interesting to realize that we are living in an Internet age while its very history is being made.

One Hundred Thousand Tons of Trash!

The news is telling us that one hundred thousand tons of trash was left on the grounds after the Presidential Inauguration festivities were over and done with. The is a extremely large number, and it really bothers me that people would have left so much behind for the city to pick up and dispose of. Most of the items where paper related products and could have been recycled, can you imagine how much room  all of that will take up in the landfill? Disturbing news to read, but I’m glad that I wasn’t one of the people responsible to trashing the place that day or responsible for cleaning it up for that matter.

The Reinventing Of America

Interesting insights concerning many Reinventing America ideas and insights can be found online at Ubercool.com. and with the Presidential Inauguration still scheduled for tomorrow, there is lots to talk about, and many thoughts to ponder on.

Looks Like it is The Steelers and The Cardinals

The Ravens just couldn’t seem to keep the Steeler’s down and it looks like it will now be The Cardinals and The Steelers come The Superbowl. I’m not a betting man, but if I had to place a bet it would be on The Steelers, they play a hard game well.

Rising Gas Prices

I went to town earlier this morning and did some running of some errands and was glad to see that gas is still holding at $1.75, now I didn’t go up to the few stations that are right off of the Interstate and I know that one is an Exxon which is always the highest price of any station known. Nest time I need to be at that part of town I won’t be surprised to see if the have done the dirty deed of rising to the $2 mark for a gallon a gasoline or not.

Sister may be Relocating to the UK

Birmingham is a city and metropolitan borough in the West Midlands, England and one of my sisters and her husband have the opportunity to go there because it is known as “the workshop of the world” or the “city of a thousand trades” and her husband’s company is thinking of establishing them elves there in the near future. She and I both hope that she doesn’t end up having to relocate way over there, I mean it would be a great opportunity and all, but we would all miss her and the kids just so much!In the meantime while his company is busy finding the most affordable, but nice hotels in Birmingham, my sister is running frantic wondering what to do with the kids and all the things that entail going away for an adventure like this. She isn’t sure what the weather will be like and is thinking that this will call for a wardrobe over haul, that sounds like fun to me, she is in the position to do something drastic like that. Her hubby makes good money and he is eager to go over to the U.K. and get to know the kind of place that it is and meet the people that he is told are called “Brummies”, a term derived from the city’s nickname of Brum, he is eager to hear how they pronounce that term. He is told that there is a distinctive “Brummie” dialect and accent, both of which differ from those of the adjacent Black Country. The Black Country, sounds interesting enough!

NFL Picks Online

One of the better quality sites that I frequent, Comcast.net has the current NFL football schedule, along with numerous other news worthy articles and links that I find useful, interesting and entertaining. Having the Internet makes the watching of television less necessary in an effort to find out what is going on in the world, outside of your little local area and their local news stations. A good portion of TV these days are being dedicated to news in one way or another. We can’t seem to get enough of it and more people want to be informed instantaneously and from a reliable source.

I find most of my information while online, everywhere you turn there are numerous ways to view news stories from around the world at the click of a few buttons. You get what you want, when you want it, easy as that.

Comcast.net offers a good variety of current stories, their sports section gets most of my attention as of late with the Super Bowl right around the corner and the play off games being as exciting and action packed as they have been this year. They have good videos, the scores and and the latest picks, I have the Steelers picked for this year’s winner, but only time will tell, in the mean time I’ll keep up to date online.

Sharky the dolphin dead after a head-on collision

Discovery Cove is an amusement park in Florida that was set up so that the visitors to the park could get into the water with the dolphins and interact with them.  As part of the day’s events, they visitors stand in the shallow end of a pool and observe some trained dolphins do a performance.  Sharky, a 30 year old female dolphin collided head on with 13 year old Tyler (a male.)  While Tyler appeared to be uninjured, Sharky suffered head injuries and died from the injuries.  I read all of this on the Internet at the guardian.co.uk website’s animal news section.  I happen to love all animals, and I was sad to hear about Sharky’s tragic death.  This tragedy has reopened the controversy over whether animal parks where animals are trained to do routines for the amusement of people are humane or not.

Brazilian President Defends Using Corn for Biofuel

I was reading on the Internet at the Reuter’s website that the Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva felt compelled to speak in defense of using corn for biofuel.  He claims that his country is not contributing to global warming or food shortages by growing corn for biofuel.  This was in apparent reaction to a week’s worth of demonstrations held in Europe and Brazil that were being held to protest how the use of corn to create biofuel appears to be bad for the economy, the environment, and is creating a world wide food shortage.  From the article that I read it appears to me that the largest critics are those who have a vested interest in keeping the world dependent on fossil fuels.  Of course, that’s just my perception, I could be wrong, but that’s what it appears like to me!
