Moving Along…

Man have things been hopping around the farm, as I knew it would. The weather has been perfect for the spring time planting season and I’ve gotten a lot done before the rains came this morning. The rain’s timing couldn’t have been any better. I’ve been doing most of the work myself and I haven’t been getting much sleep and lord knows I haven’t been eating well either, but things have been moving right along.

My stomach has been giving me some issues for a few months now, and now that I’m so busy, run down and not eating the right foods, so I’m looking into a natural colon cleanse product. I understand that it can do wonders for so many health issues, so I’m taking the time tonight to check out some information on the Internet about this process and the products that are out there that will do the job safely and efficiently.

Harvest

I have to admit that I’m not the most creative pumpkin carver on Earth. I have carved pumpkins for many years, but they tend to be average pumpkin faces. You know, the triangle eyes and the toothless evil grin. So I appreciate the talent when someone makes a more clever face, like these. Just need a little imagination and good effort.

This years harvest will be an interesting one, only time will tell how well the place fairs this year, being the first year I’ve had the responsibility of the whole kit and caboodle. But I’m looking forward to it and praying for good weather!

The Best Seafood with Atmosphere

My youngest sister just sent me a post card from Orlando Florida, where she has been for the last week visiting with her in-laws and having fun with the kids with all that Orlando has to offer for family fun. They have been planning this trip for such a long time, saving up what little cash they could stick away for the past few years and are now in the land of sun shine having the time of their lives.

Her in-laws took the whole family out to dinner at one of the best restaurants Orlando has to offer in the private dinning sector, which is modeled as a sleek 1930’s ocean liner and is the perfect setting to enjoy fresh seafood, which they have flown in daily from around the world for their guests.

I’ve myself dinned at this popular restaurant while in Texas and I’m glad that she and the kids are experiencing this wonderful culinary delight, much as I did when I was in Houston Texas. They have the best seafood, with the perfect atmosphere to go along with the food. As far as I’m concerned it was and hopefully still is the best of Houston restaurants that specialized in seafood and was glad to hear that there is more than just the one that I had the pleasure of dinning at so many years ago.

Week end plans

The weather man is promising a nice weather week end, a couple of friends and family members have promised to come and lend a hand at the place during that time. My one sister is coming with her kids and are promising to lend a hand and keep everyone feed and well hydrated, maybe even a bar b que would be a good plan.

There is so much to be done around here, I’m glad to have the extra help, some company and some decent food for a change.

The Biggest Loser

I’m sure everyone has heard about “The Biggest Loser” program on TV, hosted by Jillian Michaels. She’s like the no-nonsense fitness guru of the decade. Now she even has an online fitness program to help motivate people to reach their goals and her site also offers Jillian Michaels Coupons which is always a plus when it comes to putting your money where your mouth is. I think I made a joke!

Tomatoes

Every spring I get so anxious after planting the gardens in the back, I can’t wait to see what will be popping up and how fast, and what seeds have been eaten by birds or squirrels and need re-planting. We have been granted a bunch of rain lately which has made things start off on a good foot and I am craving the tomatoes already. During the summer months I tend to put on a few pounds due to the high consumption of tomato sandwiches which are so easy to make and taste so good in the hot days of summer.

Dilemma solved

Yesterday my cousin Chrissy dropped in, her kids Amanda and Heather in tow.  She stopped in to invite me to her place for Christmas dinner, and noticed that the tree was still sitting there, naked as a jay bird.  So she and her kids took off their coats, placed a request for some hot chocolate and Christmas music, and we rolled up our sleeves and decorated the tree together.  That was really nice of them to do that with me.  I had a good time; it was good to have some family time putting up the tree.  Thanks Chrissy, Amanda and Heather!  You did a great job!

Good turnout

The local fire & rescue department held a fund-raising pancake breakfast with Santa Claus this morning down at the community center.  They asked me to help out, so I went down there and helped serve the pancakes and sausage.  It was a nice time, seeing a lot of neighbors that I haven’t seen since my parent’s funeral.  I got a lot of invitations to come drop by and see them during the holidays.  Of course I said I’d try to work it into my schedule.  It was fun seeing how excited all of the children got when Santa arrived to hand out a few gifts that parents had brought in ahead of time.  Of course Santa arrived (and left) on a fire truck, sirens blaring!  I’m thinking about learning to drive an ambulance and volunteer to be a driver for them since I live so close by to the station.  I’ll have to make a point to talk to them about it more when we’re not busy serving up breakfast!

Harvesting corn

Well, this weekend I will be busy harvesting corn most of the time.  It’s a really good crop this year!  I’ve been harvesting a little bit and taking it to the Farmer’s Market over the past couple of weeks, and the customers have bought every ear I’ve taken to the market!  They love that super sweet corn that I grow!  I can’t blame them, I love it too!  This is a great corn that you don’t have to rush to the table as soon as you pick it – it gets sweeter after a day or two so you can buy it today and eat it tomorrow and it tastes even better.  I think that is why it is so popular, it is hard for people to get regular corn to the table fast enough to really enjoy it.
