Web Hosting Options

I have learned so much about computers and all that the Internet has to offer us all these past couple of years since taking over the house and the farm. I don’t know what I would have done without my handy dandy laptop, gone completely insane I would imagine. With not much extra time on my hands most days, my social life is a joke and I don’t get much company, besides family, so the computer has become my best friend and I have still so much to learn about my new best friend.

I have been looking into switching to a new web hosting provider. There are several out there that have been doing their part in the “green movement” that has become so popular with everyone these days and I would like to do what I can to help as well. So I found a good web hosting reviews and rating site that lists the top ten Green Web Hosting providers that has helped me sort them all out to find the right match for me and my needs and wants. GreenGeeks advertises that it is 300% Green Hosting, that is a pretty high percentage, wouldn’t you say.

I’ll take my time and see what I can figure out the next couple of days.

Green 911

The farm has always had issues, at one time or another, with a variety of pests, so I’ve always got my eyes open for different organic pest control info that would benefit us all the way around. This year the corn earworms are supposed to be hitting us bad, which is very disturbing news indeed, considering that corn earworms do major damage to other plants as well. The tomato plant and cotton also is a favorite of these nasty little moths and I don’t look forward to having to deal with this time around.

Organic bug control is the only way to go, in my mind. Too many chemicals have been used in the past around here at the farm, but those days are over and I intend to change a lot of things that I have in power to do so. I’m all about going as “Green” as I possibly can, when ever I can.

I’d like to share with you the following video that can be found online on YouTube. It is a five minute segment that speaks of Safer® brand and its wide range of OMRI Listed® Organic pest control products in a recent show, that I have found most informative and interesting and very relevant to this organic pest control.

Happy New Year!

I know it isn’t all that original, but it is heart felt. I want to wish everyone the happiest of new year’s this year. Things can only get better, can’t imagine things getting any worse, I can tell you that! 2014 is over and done with once and for all and may 2015 be a better one for everyone all around this Mother Earth!

Critters

I’ve got way too many cats running around here! Lets see now, in the neutered male division we have a large red, (from whence he got his name, “Red”), and a rather large and imposing solid black, who goes by the name of “Rocky”. In the spayed female ranks we have “Wild Thing”, sometimes referred to as “Momma Cat”, and a big fluffy grey we call “Jada”.

The newest of the bunch is a small striped grey that looks a lot like “Wild Thing”, in coloring, yet to be spayed. They all eat way too much and to top it all off they are all save the kitten bigger than my one house dog, a small female purebred shizu. The dog is nuttier then a fruitcake and twice as dumb! But ya gotta love her, she’s just so darn cute!

Paper Less World, Ha!

Something that I over looked when I took over the place was the amount of paper work that would be involved in running a farm. Paper work and I are not on the best of terms these days, I’m so tired at the end of the day these past few months, that I find it hard to stay up after getting a bit to eat and shuffling papers around. Thank goodness for the Internet, they have really wonderful programs to help with today’s bookkeeping needs, but we still need to use and rely very heavily on our paper supply!

There is still a great need to correspond via the US Postal Service and I wish that I had taken the time to order some decent return address labels that I could just slap on all the envelopes that leave my desk each week. I’m tired of writing by hand, over and over, the name and the return address. So I think that the next time I go online for my personal use I will start looking for some deals on some nice quality but affordable return address labels. It shouldn’t be that big of deal.

The Perfect Pens

It just seems to me that if you are going to spend money to advertise your business that you would give a little thought into making the decisions on what you want to say about you and your business. There are so many marketing options out there in today’s highly competitive business world.

One concept that has been around for ever is giving away pens that have your company’s information on them. I have so many pens and pencils here that my parents collected over the years that they lived here on the farm. They were here for a very long while and got to the town grow throughout the years, so it’s no wonder they accumulated so many writing utensils from all over the county. I have weeded out the real old crappy ones these past couple of years. It amazed me to find so many that didn’t work or were of very poor quality that it made writing with them a real chore.

Many of the ones that I seem to enjoy keeping and using are found online at http://www.penfactory.com/ at some very appealing discounted prices. If you want to give away decent pens I would encourage people to send a few more pennies and order the ones that are clearly a much better quality like the ones pictured below. But that is just my opinion.

Cheap Ink

Since I don’t the chance to go into town as often as I’d like to. I don’t want to go anywhere if I can help it. It’s a good thing that I can get a lot of what I need delivered right to my door by ordering items via the Internet. I don’t do a whole lot of printing here at the farm but just like anyone else, it seems that our inkjet cartridges are always running out and we are always looking for cheap ink to keep our printing needs in check.

I have found good deals at inkgrabber dot com and right now they are having two winter coupons for their online shoppers like myself. So if you are looking for good deals on just about any type of printer ink, inkgrabber dot com is a good place to check out and see if they have what you need and are looking for at a good cheap price. Word of mouth is still one of the best advertising after all, just passing it on.

Time Honored Family Traditions

I have to admit that the holiday season’s are still pretty tough for me considering that I am living at the homestead and farm that we all grew up on and our parents were running up until they passed away several years ago now. It is just me here, all though I have a ton of relatives that live close by. All of those holiday traditions are the hardest. My eldest sister and her family all try so very hard to keep most of these traditions alive and are always there for me each and every day and they go the extra mile during the holidays.

I haven’t spend a full Christmas day here at the house yet. So far I go over to my sister’s house and spent Christmas eve with them and spend the night there so that I can be there to see the kids eyes when they come down the stairs early Christmas morning. Then I am there dealing with the kids while my sister is busy in the kitchen preparing all the holiday foods for that evenings Christmas meal that she has taken over from my mom, with the rest of the family is on the road on their way to her house and the place gets filled up quickly through out the day.

One of the holiday traditions that we now have is going over to the family cemetery to pay our respects to our parents and all the other members of the family that are there with them as well.

Mending Fences

Today I spent all day mending fences – literally.  Last night a drunk driver ran off the road and through a large section of my fence.  Thankfully the police notified me that the fence was broken before I let the cattle out into that pasture.  I would have been really upset to have to try to herd the wayward cattle back after they had escaped!

So today I had to spend most of the day mending fences.  The worst part about it was the memories it brought back about how my parents were killed by a drunk driver.  I think that all cars should be equipped with a breathalyzer box and the car refuses to start if the driver has had too much to drink!

A Mexican Telecaster

Interesting to find out that this Fender Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar is often referred to as a mexican telecaster, a guitar that came out in the 50’s and is still a popular electric guitar that is still in demand in the music industry.

My oldest brother had one of these electric guitars back in the day. I will have to ask him if he still has it or even if he still plays any guitar at all.
