Code Red Soda

About 5 years ago I had the opportunity to visit St. Louis and meet up with a bunch of fellow internet fanatics for the weekend. We all had rooms at a hotel near the airport, and next door to the hotel was a convenient Appleby’s Restaurant. We rented out their small ballroom and set up a bunch of tables and played cards from Friday night until Sunday night. We played cards so long that our hands hurt from shuffling the cards. It was great fun and I’d love to do it again sometimes.Besides meeting a bunch of fun people, the one new thing that I took away from that weekend was a bottle of Mountain Dew’s new Code Red. Everyone was drinking it. I had never heard of it, so I had the chance to try one, thanks to those fine folks. It was pretty darn good and I’ve picked up one at gas stations every once in a while when I have a taste for something different.

Sin City

Picked up the DVD called “Sin City” from WalMart’s $5 bargain rack. I really only got it because it has Bruce Willis in it, and most of his movies are pretty good. I’m a big fan of the Die Hard series – those movies are good to watch over and over.So last night there was nothing worth a hoot on the tube and I decided to watch Sin City.

OMG! What a stupid movie. I can’t believe I watched the whole thing. It was so boringly stupid. I guess you have to be the kind of person who reads comic books to appreciate the story line, the bizarre characters and the special effects. I’ve never been much of a comic book reader after the 3rd grade, so all that was wasted on me and my $5 was wasted in return. Not to mention the 2 hours of my life that I will never get back.

Thumbs down on Sin City.

Week end plans

The weather man is promising a nice weather week end, a couple of friends and family members have promised to come and lend a hand at the place during that time. My one sister is coming with her kids and are promising to lend a hand and keep everyone feed and well hydrated, maybe even a bar b que would be a good plan.

There is so much to be done around here, I’m glad to have the extra help, some company and some decent food for a change.

Barack Obama Oil Painting by Hand

To find an awesome selection of President Barack Obama art, one needs to look no further than at Barackobamaoilpainting.com, where they are offering hand painted portraits, in a variety of sizes, starting at $179. I have taken the time to place one example below for viewing here on my blog.

This company is so confident with their paintings that they offer 100% money back guarantee. Each painting is truly unique, one of a kind and have just recently launched their website and are anxious and excited to have the word put out about their hand painted portraits of our newly elected President Barack Obama.

The Biggest Loser

I’m sure everyone has heard about “The Biggest Loser” program on TV, hosted by Jillian Michaels. She’s like the no-nonsense fitness guru of the decade. Now she even has an online fitness program to help motivate people to reach their goals and her site also offers Jillian Michaels Coupons which is always a plus when it comes to putting your money where your mouth is. I think I made a joke!

A Wrist Watch, Valentine’s Gift

It has been a few years since I’ve had a “sweet heart” to celebrate and buy gifts for on Valentine’s Day, which comes each and every year on February the 14th. But I do remember, years back, right out of high school, I had been dating the same girl for 3 years, things got pretty hot and heavy, marriage was discussed a few times, but it fizzled out and we broke it off, right after Valentine’s Day, and I had bought her a very nice watch, one of the well known Bulova watches, that she thoroughly enjoyed receiving on that day for lovers.

She always had an issue with being late, but never wore a watch, although she owned several of them, so I thought that a nice looking watch, presented to her with love on Valentine’s Day would encourage her to start wearing a wrist watch, therefore giving her the opportunity to get to places in a more timely fashion.

It was totally strange to run into her a few years back, she is now married with children, I noticed that she was still wearing that watch and she told me how she is still known as arriving late to the majority of her appointments and functions in her now extremely busy life with the kids and all that is involved with that lifestyle. Guess some people never change!

This two tone ladies Bulova watch is very similar to the one that she is hopefully still wearing to this day.

Vacation Time at The Bahamas

My oldest sister wants to take her husband and her son on Vacation to the Bahama’s and needs a little more extra cash to be able to do it on the date they would like to go. I told her to get onto the Internet and go to Vacationloan.com and check out their wonderful options for Vacation Loans. Our youngest sister has already been approved a year ago for a vacation loan, they have a 99% Approval rate up to $1,000 cash with no credit check at all.

Snowmobiling is a Blast!

We have gotten the first half way decent snow fall of the year, although it only amounted to a couple of inches and then turned to ice as soon as the sun went down. It would be nice to get a real good blanket of six inches or more, that would make the idea of dragging out the snowmobile and go for a nice long ride, we certainly have enough land to make a good time of some snowmobiling for several hours.

SLEDtv.org has some great snowmobiling videos that are always interesting to watch and learn from, their well established forum is always full of good stories and information about this sport that just isn’t get much attention, with our lack of a good snow fall so far this year. We still have over a month to go before spring comes back around and the farm will be getting way to busy to even think of taking a ride.

NYC Looking for Alternative Energy Sources

New York Mayor Bloomburg announced a plan to pursue alternative energy sources for NYC. The major thrust of this plan is to put wind turbines on the tops of buildings and bridges, and along the coastal shores or water of the Atlantic. The City has issued requests for proposals from interested companies and organizations to make this happen. The power grid servicing the NYC area has been overburdened and faulty over the years, with brownouts and blackouts happening more frequently as demand for electricity continues to increase.

New York experimented with wind power several years ago when it put a turbine on city-owned land at 34th Street and the East River, but found that technology at the time was not efficient enough to expand to other properties and it was abandoned.

Proposals can include plans to build wind-based, solar-based and water-based energy sources in New York and offshore as far as 25 miles into the Atlantic. this would be a great model for other major cities to follow. We will be following this closely to see if the results are worth adapting for this area in the future.

Facebook, a Social Network

Did you know that changes at Facebook affected all of social networking? The article in the New York Times details the evolution of Facebook by it’s college grad founder, Mark Zuckerberg. Interestingly, he saw a shortcoming and created a way to overcome that. Thus the concept of news feed and Twitter was invented.Read the details of the New York Times article, “Brave New World of Digital Intimacy” by clicking here. It is interesting to realize that we are living in an Internet age while its very history is being made.
