Jeep

I’ve decided on a few things that I want to purchase when I finally get my tax refund check that has been tied up for way too long,  in the next week or two. It has been a while since I’ve had a few bucks in my pocket and I feel like a kid in a candy store with so many choices out there that I’d love to be able to afford.

It has been a good project to tackle at night when I’m done with all the farm work and I sit down in front of the computer. Most nights I’m too tired to concentrate on much of anything, so it’s kinda cool to be able to just mindlessly surf the Internet and see what is out there. There are things that I want and of course several things that I need for around the place so I’ve been trying to balance it out some.

One thing that I’ve definitely put on top of the list is a nice new set of wheels for my Jeep. I had such high expectations for my Jeep when I first purchased it 2 years ago and I haven’t been able to do as much with it as I had planned, but for now a sweet looking set of wheels will have to do. CARID.com has some great accessories that I’ve spent some time gazing out. Good stuff going on there folks and they accept PayPal.

A Decent Bass Equializer Pedal

It’s so good to get a hand written thank you card in the mail these days, it just makes me think that they are cool enough to take the time and effort to write the card, address the card, put a stamp on it and then get it to a mailbox. When these days in just a matter of minutes you can shoot someone a thank you and or a card with all of today’s technology communication options.

The reason I bring this up is that in today’s mail there was a thank you card from my 19 year old nephew for the bass eq that we, the aunts and uncles, all pitched in a bought for him as his High School Graduation gift. He is a good kid and he deserves a decent Bass Equalizer Pedal, and so much more, but that’s another story.

Green Ways To Wrap Gifts

One of the most wasteful things around any of the holidays is using gift wrapping paper and then just throwing it all away afterwards. But lately I’ve been trying to get around that and eliminate some of my holiday waste.

I went online to try and get some more ideas on how I could wrap things in a green way, when I came across some clear wireless internet specials that I wanted to take advantage of, so I signed up for them.

I ordered some green holiday gift wrapping that was made out of recycled paper that’s pretty cute and have sworn that that’s all that I’m going to use of wrapping paper this year. I’m also going to try and come up with other ways to package up most of my gifts. I think that I’m going to put together a few gift baskets for some people so that they can reuse the actual basket for something else afterwards. I may also wrap them in tulle, which is something that you can see through, but that they can use for something else afterward instead of throwing it away.

Tutoring Offered Online

My God, where was the Internet and all that it has to offer when I was in school? A co worker of mine was telling me that her son was receiving tutoring via the Internet and I thought that that was pretty cool. I could have used some Math homework help back in my schooling years, especially middle and high school. Numbers and I have never gotten along, lord knows what I would do with out my handy dandy calculator.

I spent a good amount of time with the little old lady down the street that tutored the neighborhood kids for a small fee. It helped and I got through the school, but it was a real drag, I can tell you that. She smelled bad, like old moth balls and her teeth were always, well, just nasty. Just what a teen aged boy wants to spend time with after school.

From what I understand you can go to tutorvista.com  where they offer folks Free math help and Free homework help for a large variety of subjects, K -12 and even up into the college years. Pretty cool huh? Pass the word it’s all good!

The New NEC DSX System

It has taken the company that sis works at over nine long months to figure out that ABC Telecom has the best business telephone systems to offer. My sister was put it charge of researching the various business phone systems available to suggest to upper management for their review and await for their final approval. She has put a lot of time and energy into this project and has really been looking forward  to the day that the whole system to be installed and put to good use.

That day was today and she couldn’t be happier and her supervisor is thrilled with the whole NEC DSX System that was the talk of the whole company this afternoon. Having the right telephone system is so crucial for good customer service and will keep the employees content as well. Lord knows the receptionist will be in a much happier mood after today.

Hopefully all of my sister’s hard work will pay off when her Employee Evaluation time rolls around. She is proud of what she does and loves her job, but getting a good evaluation can make or break a persons career. Getting a decent pay increase is always a bonus!

Cell Phone

I’m looking forward to ending my 2 year relationship with Verizon come the end of August of this year. I haven’t been happy with their service since day one. I could use a new phone, as this one has seen better days and I’m ready for something with a few more bells and whistles on it.

I know of several  web sites that I can go to and compare different providers and plans that I will be checking into soon trying to get an idea of which provider I go with and what type of phone I think will fit my needs.

Eating Dinner Out At A Local Buffet

This Friday night a few friends and I are going to eat out at a local all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant.  You order a main dish that includes meat and potato, and then you go to the buffet counter and get all you want veggies, salad, rolls, fruit, desserts, and more potatoes if you want.  The restaurant is about the best value meal you can buy in the area, and the wait staff is friendly.  The only problems I’ve had there is sometimes they cook the steaks more than I like so I’ve learned to tell the waitress that I want it cooked rarer than I really want it.  That way it usually comes out all right.  One thing is for sure, if you leave hungry it’s your own fault!

They have a coupon book that gives loyal customer rewards, when you eat there you leave a ticket at the cashier’s desk and they fill it out with how much money your meal was.  After you spend $100 they send you a coupon good for a free meal.  That’s one of my favorite local restaurants, good food, good value, and they send you free meal tickets every few months! I like free and hate to cook, so it’s a win, win situation for me.

Exceptional Taylor 214

Found myself an exceptional taylor 214 at musicians friend today. I have decided to get back into playing the guitar and the only one here in the house is for a young child. Probably one of my brothers or sisters or possibly left here for any of the grand children to play with while visiting. My mother always made sure that there were plenty of age appropriate toys for everyone to enjoy.

I look forward to getting back to my guitar playing. It gets pretty lonely around here some nights and watching TV and surfing the Internet sometimes just doesn’t cut the mustard.

Got Milk?

Was watching the news yesterday morning (I’m thinking it was The Today Show) and they were running a story about how within a short period of time milk is going to cost $6.00 a gallon! They were blaming the increasing cost of fuel for the increase, which is the reason that the price is rising on just about everything.I think that is horrible! Milk is going to become a luxury item at that price! For many years there has been a huge campaign about how healthy milk is, but I think that people will end up drinking more sugary fruit flavored drinks like kool-aid instead of drinking milk if it gets that expensive! If milk gets that expensive, I imagine the milk related products like cheese, ice cream, butter and yogurt will rise in price as well!

Again, I think that is going to be driving people towards eating the cheap junk food instead of dairy product.

love me some milk

Thinking of San Diego

Before I settled down and took over the family house and farm, I had the opportunity to do a bit of traveling. I can’t tell you how much I miss that part of my life. One of my favorite places was San Diego, California. And thanks to Facebook I have been able to reconnect with a couple of good folks that I met there and they are still living there after all these years.

I found one friend on Facebook through the Meservy Law link that I followed, which took me to another site that I clicked around on and 45 minutes later I stumbled onto one of the greatest bartenders that I’ve had the pleasure of working with. He is a lot older than I and quit the bar tending business and it’s crazy lifestyle and last I heard was driving a city bus some where in Wisconsin. I used to have his phone number and his address, but then it turned into utilizing email and then he pretty much dropped off the face of the earth, so finding him on Facebook, by complete accident was a nice surprise.

If I ever get out that a way I will certainly have to spend some time with this guy. They just don’t make them like him any more. But then again, I don’t get out much anymore.
