Harvest

I have to admit that I’m not the most creative pumpkin carver on Earth. I have carved pumpkins for many years, but they tend to be average pumpkin faces. You know, the triangle eyes and the toothless evil grin. So I appreciate the talent when someone makes a more clever face, like these. Just need a little imagination and good effort.

This years harvest will be an interesting one, only time will tell how well the place fairs this year, being the first year I’ve had the responsibility of the whole kit and caboodle. But I’m looking forward to it and praying for good weather!

Las Vegas, Fun All Year Round

It has been many a year since I’ve had the opportunity to take a trip out wet to Las Vegas, the city that never sleeps. It is one place that you can find something to get into no matter what day or time it is, it’s action packed and fun filled 24/7, all year round. I’d like to think that I will be able to go there once again before I get too old to enjoy such fast paced excitement and all that Vegas has to offer with their fun and games for all who come there.

There is nothing in comparison to the much talked about Las Vegas Shows that are abundant in that town, I’ve been to Atlantic City a few times and seen some of their entertainment, which was good, but just not the same. I’ve always wanted to see Cirque du Soleil at Vegas, I’ve seen it on television several times and have always enjoyed it, but to see it  live and on stage must be an experience in it’s self.

Another show that I’d like to see in Vegas is The Blue Man Group, once again I’ve seen them several times on TV throughout the years, but seeing them live would be an adventure in itself, with all the different high tech devices that are being used these days. The lights and the music and audience participation adds a totally new dimension to their act, I’m sure.

With travel plans being reduced due to the recent economy issues, there are deals a plenty to be found for trips, such as Las Vegas, Nevada. The Internet is the only way to go for an inside view of all that Vegas has to offer. Tickets for their shows go on sale early and using the Internet brings those options right to you, instead of going through a travel agent or other 3rd parties, the Internet can take the middle man right out of the picture, which saves money all the way around.

A Local Online Yellow Pages

I’ve found a great site that works well in finding local businesses, a local search engine based on any locality information. You can find what ever type of business or service, with accurate driving directions to get you there, along with their hours and contact information as well as reviews and their websites, a virtual online local yellowpages.  Basically a one stop shop for locating local merchants to give your business to. We are finding ourselves in tough times and shopping locally helps keep money in your own home town and community, which is a good plan of action for us to undertake during our economic crisis these days.

At Local.com you can find just about anything you need while given the opportunity to contribute your reviews with others as well. It is always good to hear what others have to say about products and services, especially when you have a good shot at knowing the people that are making the reviews, in and around your own community. I checked out a few local restaurants at Local.com and found comments and reviews from several people that I know from this part of the country and around town, that was pretty cool.

Cash for Recycling

Back in December, during Christmas dinner, the subject of recycling beer and soda cans came about, in which I found out that there is a local company that will pay you cash for these types of cans. The price just recently went down from sixty seven cents per pound, to thirty two cents a pound, what a drastic price drop, but all the same I am now making an effort of sorting these two types of cans into a separate container on the back porch and when I get a dozen big trash bags or so I will take a trip downtown and see what kind of cash it brings in to the household.I all ready sort and recycle, so it will not take too much of an added effort in order to bring in a few bucks now and then.

Martha Stewart’s Loss

I feel for Martha Stewart, who just recently lost one of her canine friends in a fire that was caused by a propane tank explosion in the kennel that her dog was being boarded at. What a bad way for any living creature to end their live. My heart goes out to her at her loss.

Fleas are Ready

With so many animals around the house and farm, flea control is a big issue. With the warm weather coming up ahead the fleas are ready to invade at any moment and I want to be ready and on top of the issue. The Internet has come into play, once again, with good dog flea treatment information that has given me good ideas concerning these cruel pests that drive the farm dogs and cats absolutely crazy each season.

New Jersey = Liberty & Prosperity

New Jersey seems to be holding it’s own these days, with one of the highest per capital incomes of all the fifty states in the Union, it is well known for their state motto of Liberty & Prosperity. New Jersey also in known for having the highest population density in the U.S. with an average of 1030 people per square mile which turns out is 13 times the national average. All of New Jersey’s counties are classified as metropolitans, the only state able to make that claim, so it is a great place to live, work and prosper.

New Jersey Jobs are plentiful and offer high wages for qualified workers. And being so close to N.Y. and Washington D.C. makes for a great location to raise a family. The garden state is there for the taking, with a lot to offer it’s citizens. I know several people that live there and wouldn’t dream of leaving their home state. I have often visited there and have always enjoyed my time spent there before heading back to the farm.

Father’s Birthday

Today is my Father’s birthday. I have been trying for weeks to think of what I would do today to honor and celebrate his life, but I’ve just been trying to make it through the day. I’m sure I’ll be hearing from some of the family members tonight, my oldest sister most likely will be calling, after she feeds her large brood and has a few minutes between homework and bath time tasks take her over.

Think I’ll just kick back, enjoy the snow that has covered the place last night, have a shot of Jack Daniels and look through the old family album, alone.

A Penny Auction Online

When is the last time you heard the term Penny Auction? I’d be very hard put to think of something that you could still buy for a mere one cent. I was checking out a few online auctions and found an interesting one that is advertising 100% of the finale sales price to various charities, such as The United Way, The Salvation Army, Feed The Children, The American Cancer Society and many more very worth while non profit businesses. I like that concept so I took a good look around to see what all they had to offer. It’s easy enough to maneuver around in.

This Penny Auction site is still relatively new, but the bargains are there for the taking and the prices are amazingly cheap. Free shipping is also offered, so that is a plus. There are all types of products being auctioned off, I found a nice looking Cannon Camera, that the bid is up to 2 cents at this point. This Canon PowerShot SD1100IS 8MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom regularly goes for $179.99, it will be good to see what the final bid goes for. Imagine getting a camera like this for only 2 cents, and no shipping charges!

The Scorpion King

One of the better Action/Adventure movies The Scorpion King was on the SCFI Channel earlier and I really enjoyed watching, once again this 2002 Fantasy movie starring The Rock. Rock made a great transition from the World of Wrestling into Hollywood and I have found all of the movies that he has been of good quality and good taste, much more than what was produced during his Professional Wrestling days, I can give him that.
