Where to Enjoy Live Jazz in Palm Desert

Palm Desert has the perfect blend of nature and culture. From the majestic red rocks to its nightlife, there’s something for everyone in this eclectic city. Live jazz is common place in Palm Desert, but finding the best place will take a little work. Jazz is meant to be heard with broad acoustics and minimal interruptions from the crowd.

1.) The Show at Agua Caliente

The Agua Caliente is a resort, casino and spa in Rancho Mirage, CA. In 2008, the show was opened here: a venue dedicated to the arts. Boasting musicians like Billy Joel, Matchbox 20 and REO Speedwagon, The Show is also known for its jazz performances. The four-level facility keeps the shows intimate, with plush seats surrounding the stage.

2.) McCallum Theatre

The breathtaking stage of McCallum Theater opened in 1988 and has been wowing its guests with a wide range of musical acts ever since. The best place to see a Broadway show in Palm Desert, their jazz café series is equally impressive. The state-of-the-art sound system is perfect for capturing the intricacies of jazz, while even the farthest reaching seats can enjoy the show with an unobstructed view.

Super long clip

When I was looking at the webpage that sells a sheet music stand I noticed something that didn’t look like a sheet music stand at all, and it piqued me curiosity. I clicked on the picture to see if I could find out more about it, and it took me to a different page with a description of the item. It was a really long clip that is used to keep sheet music from shifting around on the stand. I immediately thought of all of the times I have used clothes pins to clip things together and how I’ve wished that the clothes pins were longer. Now I know exactly what I can buy to replace those clothes pins that are just too short to get the job done! This is awesome!

Gaining Followers on Spotify

About two years ago I signed up for one of the very first American Spotify accounts. It was available in Europe for a couple of years, but for some reason – I’m sure it had to do with money and royalties – they did not bring it to America until 2012. I found a tekkie friend who shared one of his 5 allotted invitations to join up the first day and I’ve been hooked ever since.

I don’t know what the average user does about playlists, but I made up a BUNCH of playlists. I started out with a modern country playlist because it was easy to recognize the current stars and their current hit songs. Then I went to rock and roll from when I was in high school Those songs will always have tons of memories for me – they are what I grew up listening to. The third playlist was harder and took longer, but it is my favorite: adult contemporary. I like this music because it is fresh and easy on the ears. It is the kind of music that you hear on all the different genres of radio stations, but they appeal to everyone.

I had no idea that anyone cared about my personal playlists, but a few months ago I started getting email notifications from Spotify that people were subscribing to my adult contemporary playlist. I don’t know these people and don’t know how they found my playlist, but it is kinda flattering to find out that a lot of people share the same interest in music with you. I keep adding subscribers somehow – about 1 or 2 a week. Last time I checked, I had 64 subscribers to my playlist from all over the world – and I don’t personally know a single one of them!

Listening to the Oldies

My favorite way to listen to music is with the online service called Spotify. You can use it for free, but I pay a small amount every month to get extra features. I’m not sure what the difference is, but I love Spotify and I don’t mind spending $5 a month to support this service.

Tonight I will be listening to the Oldies while I clean house and do the laundry. The weird thing is that my definition of the Oldies might be different from what you call the Oldies. There are actual Oldies radio stations, but they play really old songs, like from the 1950’s and 1960’s. That’s before most of us were even born. In my world, Oldies means the songs of the 1980’s.

The 1980’s songs were so fun for dancing and the best days of heavy metal bands. All the great Metal bands were forming their sound in the 80’s – like Metallica, Guns and Roses, Kiss, AC/DC, Alice in Chains, etc., although the genre got it’s start in the late ’60’s and 70’s. I think the 80’s were the hay day and I love the loud, upbeat music while I am busy scrubbing floors and washing dishes.

What do you mean it isn’t an end table?

When Shawn showed me the picture of the cajon drum he wants to buy at musician’s friend I thought that I was looking at a really nice end table! I was so surprised when he told me that it was something called a “pick-up” and it had a built in pre-amp and microphone in it. At that point my eyes must have glazed over because Shawn started trying to explain to me how musicians often have to use several different pieces of equipment to perform the function that this one piece of equipment does. Well after a minute or two I mumbled “that’s nice” and excused myself to go wash my hair. I’m still not sure what it is that it does, but it would look nice sitting beside my sofa!

Ethnic Festivals

This whole area is a melting pot of America. There are so many different ethnic groups and neighbors here that we get to have tons of fun exploring all the customs and foods of a different country every weekend. The summer brings a lot of great ethnic festivals. I’m looking forward to the festivals with music, dancing, great foods and all kinds of bazaars.

Listen To Pandora For All Of Your Music Needs

Pandora is one of my all time favorite sites to go to to listen to music.  I usually always have it on in the background of whatever I am doing. I like that I can type in a song, artist, or keyword and it will create a station based just on that. I think it’s wonderful.  Of course there are stations you can choose from but I usually just type in something I’d like to listen to and go with that for the day.

I always have about 5 channels on my account. I do remove channels through the year and based on my mood. For example, I’m not quite ready to remove my Christmas music station. I think I might leave it on there until the end of next week and then get serious about putting all of the Christmas stuff away.

Do you use Pandora to listen to music online? If you do, do you have any favorite channels that you like to listen to? Are there any groups or artists that you have found since listening in on Pandora that you didn’t know about before you started using Pandora? I know I’ve come across quite a few artists that I didn’t know about since I started listening to music with Pandora and it’s been a true blessing.

Where is the sax?

Saturday at the street dance and concert that my kids and I went to, the band was playing a song about how much they love the saxophone, and I could swear that I heard the saxophone playing, but darn if I could see anything that looked like a saxophone anywhere on the stage! This perturbed me greatly, as my uncle used to play a mean sax, and I was thinking about talking to him later about the concert and the song about the saxophone! It wasn’t until my brother was telling me about the cheap buy used yamaha wx5 sale at guitar center event that I realized that there are other instruments being used in this day and age that can mimic the sound of the saxophone, and the trumpet, and other wind instruments.

I felt amazed, and yet cheated, at the same time. Isn’t modern technology amazing? And how sad for the many talented musicians that are now out of jobs because machines can mimic what they took years and years to learn how to do! I think that I would prefer to see the genuine saxophone musician wailing on his sax – it provides a much better theatrical performance!

Horrible Head Ache Won’t Go Away

Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow! My head hurts and I’ve tried everything to make this stupid head ache go away. I’ve had a horrible head ache for the past two days and all I feel is yuck. My head is pounding and aching. It’s starting to make my back hurt and my eyes hurt.

I’ve done all of the normal things that you can do to do to get rid of a head ache but nothing has seemed to work. I wonder if it’s brought on by stress. Seems as if more and more people are demanding my energy and time, and as many times as I say “NO” some people just refuse to take “NO” for an answer!

Maybe all I need is some time for peace and relaxation.  Maybe a nice hot bubble bath with some beautiful scented aromatherapy candles lit in the bathroom.  I think lavender would be great for just the occasion  Lavender is supposed to be calming and soothing.  Well, I need it to calm and soothe my head ache away.  It might be nice to have some relaxing music in there too with me.  I’m not sure if I want jazz or just some nice classical.

I’m off to try to rid myself of this disgusting headache.  If you have any cures that work for you let me know.
