Fridays and Why They Are So Special

Fridays are one of the best days of the week.  On Fridays you’ve accomplished most everything you need to get done for the week. I love crossing everything off of my to do list as the week goes by, and usually on Friday most everything is crossed off. It always makes me excited to know that I’ll be able to have the entire weekend to relax and not worry about the stress of the week from work. In the afternoon I always get a sense of euphoria as the weekend draws near.

Fridays bring a smile to my face just thinking about them. I don’t know anyone that doesn’t love Fridays.  T.G.I.F. Thank God It’s Friday!  Who doesn’t celebrate Friday when it rolls around.

Five Foods I’d Hate To Live Without

I was having a conversation with a friend and we were discussing what our favorite foods are.  Then we talked about which foods we couldn’t live without. We had some differences but this is what I came up with.

1. Chocolate: I don’t think I’d want to live without chocolate of course; it’s my ultimate favorite food.  It makes me happy and is just so darn delicious.  It would have to be dark chocolate too; none of that icky milk chocolate nonsense.

2. Chips and Salsa: I know that really sounds like two foods but I always think of it as one item.  I can’t ever seem to get enough.  When ever I go to a Mexican restaurant they have to bring a few extra bowls of the chips and salsa because we always devour them.

3. Avocado: Another favorite of mine that is just oh so divine.  I love them plain, in guacamole, on food, in food. You name I love  the creamy goodness that is the Hass avocado.

4. Coffee: Not for the caffeine, but for the flavor.  I just love a great cup of coffee. Decaff is absolutely fine as long as the flavor is bold, rich, and smooth I’ll be a happy camper.

5. Bread: Who doesn’t love bread?  There is soo much you can do with bread.  Make sandwiches, toast, puddings, stuffing, and soo much more.  I’ve only ever come across one bread I don’t like and that’s Rye.  For some reason the anise in is grosses me out.

Ms. Leach, The Best Teacher Ever

The first day of school is coming soon.  It’s the time of year when school supplies are on sale at every store and there are specials for students and teachers.  I remember my fourth grade teacher very well.  She just happened to end up being my fifth grade teacher too!  She made our school time very special.

Each day we would sing songs and have learning activities.  But the one thing that made her very special was that she took time out of her busy day to talk to us about what was going on in our lives and how we were doing.  She asked us question about how we felt about learning and what we liked and didn’t like.  She worked really hard to tailor her lessons and activities to fit and and every one of us.

She always had something special planned for us each day.  I couldn’t wait to get to school in the mornings to find out what Ms. Leach had in store for us.  I hope my kids have teachers like her this year.  I want them to think learning is fun.

Do You Need Coffee to Wake Up in the Morning?

Regular or decaf? That is the question. Are you one of those people that absolutely must have a cup of coffee in the morning in order to wake up? I used to be. I’m not anymore. I make sure to get a good 8 solid hours of sleep every night. Then when I get up in the morning instead of relying on coffee to wake me up I like to take a shower.

Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy a cup of joe in the morning, it just doesn’t have to be caffeinated. As long as it tastes good I’m absolutely fine with decaf. I invest in quality coffee and haven’t had a problem with poor flavor in my decaf coffee at all.

I know I don’t need coffee to wake up in the morning. If you are one of those people that do need coffee in the morning, what would your day be like without your coffee? I’d love to hear from you.

The Best Way to Start Your Day

I’m a firm believer that the best way to start your day out is by getting up, making your bed first thing, and then going to the bathroom. In your first few moments you’ve already accomplished something. I hate making my bed, so I always make it first thing in the morning so it’s done for the rest of the day and I don’t have to look at a messy bed as I walk past it.

Taking a shower is a nice way to wake your body up as well. I like to take a warm shower so I’m not shocked awake with cool water. I let the water give me a big giant wake up hug. After I get out I feel nice and refreshed and ready to start my day.

Children’s Literature Favorites

One of my most favorite books ever growing up as a kid was, Where The Wild Things Are. I remember Max tromping off into the scary woods and dancing with the wild things. I loved how he was dressed up and seemed to fit right in with the rest of the monsters.

I always wondered what had happened to him earlier in the day that led him to go to this far off place where the wild things lived. Did he get into trouble? Did he tell a lie? Was he trying to escape something he didn’t like? He sure had a gigantic imagination to dream up a place like that.

Every kid should have a chance to read that story. It would be a lot of fun to make up your own prequel or sequel to the story to explain what happened before or after to Max and his family. I might even do that with my own kids. I bet they would love to write and illustrate their own stories about Max.

Protective Phone Case Saves the Day

Clumsy has got to be my middle name with a big capital C.  I drop everything and run into things all of the time.

I can’t even count the times I say ouch in one day.  I was coming down the stairs this morning and dropped my phone.  It fell down all of the stairs and beat me to the bottom.  I’m sure it would have been dead if it were not in the fancy, protective, silicone case I got for it.

I’m sooo grateful I spent the extra money on that case.  If I didn’t have it I bet I would be at the store right now paying to replace my phone.

Clothes Shopping

My hubby needs some new clothes.  He really likes an easy casual look when he’s not at the office. I think shopping for clothes for guys is a lot easier than it is to shop for women.  I mean there really isn’t much to it.

He likes polo shirts, graphic tees, jeans and the occasional sweatshirt with a hood.  He has a really easy to fit body.  I swear his body type is copied from a mannequin.  I wish I had that problem.  He has a perfect 32 inch waistline.  Pants and shorts come in all different colors and styles in that size.  He never has to have anything taken in either.

Anyway, I’m going to drop by the mall on my way home from work tomorrow and pick up a few outfits for him.  He hates shopping himself so I usually do it for him.  I pick up a couple things, bring them home, and he tries them on.  Whatever he likes we keep, and what ever he doesn’t like I take back and exchange.  I would like him to come with me to save time occasionally but this way I get to pick what I like and try to get him into some color.  If he had his way the only colors he would wear would be black, white, and gray.

Harry Potter

So I still haven’t gone to see the new Harry Potter movie.  I read all of the books and have seen all of the other films.  I was a little disappointed with the last one actually.  I hated that they cute the last book in half and made two movies out of it.  I’ve heard great reviews about this new movie and am excited to see it.  I’m thinking we might go next week once the crazy buzz dies down a bit.  I don’t feel like dealing with hundreds of Potter fans all dressed up and shouting at the screen while I try to enjoy the show in peace.  I guess I’m just not in the mood right now.

Color Wonder and Crayons

I’m SOOOO very grateful for the invention of Magic Pens and Color Wonder Markers.  My daughter can color to her little heart’s content.  She loves to draw and is always asking to draw on something.  With these markers I dont’ have to worry about her getting ink on her clothes, the walls, or anything else for that natter.  I love that the invisible ink only shows up on the special paper made to use just with these products.

Now, crayons on the other hand…. ONLY BUY WASHABLE!!!  Yes, all crayons usually say they are washable but buy the ones that are marketed and labeled as being washable.  There REALLY is a HUGE difference.  The washable crayons wipe off of my walls with ease.  The regular crayons take a lot of elbow grease to get off.

I have to go birthday shopping and will be restocking on these two wonderful, worry-free, art supplies for the kiddos.
