Harry Potter

So I still haven’t gone to see the new Harry Potter movie.  I read all of the books and have seen all of the other films.  I was a little disappointed with the last one actually.  I hated that they cute the last book in half and made two movies out of it.  I’ve heard great reviews about this new movie and am excited to see it.  I’m thinking we might go next week once the crazy buzz dies down a bit.  I don’t feel like dealing with hundreds of Potter fans all dressed up and shouting at the screen while I try to enjoy the show in peace.  I guess I’m just not in the mood right now.

Where Is My Bag?

This afternoon I had a bit of a scare.  I lost my messenger bag.  It had my wallet, the book I am reading, my IPAD, and some paper work inside.  I can’t believe I left it behind somewhere.  I’ve never forgotten it before.  I began to retrace my steps from the day to try to think of where I might have misplaced it.

I asked everyone if they had seen it.  I began to panic because of the valuables I had stored in my bag.  Karen said she saw two messenger bags in the main workroom earlier in the afternoon.  I remembered stopping by there so I went to look for it there next.  I dropped by there this morning to fax something. As soon as I walked in the room I saw the two bags on the desk by the wall.  Unfortunately, neither of the bags were mine.

I began to get discouraged about finding my bag.  I decided to check the lunch room to see if maybe it was in there.  I checked the table where I normally sit but it was no where to be seen.  I sat down feeling overwhelmed when I saw it across the room.  It was next to the vending machine.  I remember I had to set it down to get a bottle of water with my lunch.  I was soo relieved to find it.  I think I’ll have to strap my bag to myself or wear it differently so I don’t lose it again.  I’m just thrilled that I found it.

YUMMY Cookies!

I just had the BEST chocolate peanut butter cookies ever!!!  A gal from work brought them in today.  She said she was on a baking binge and made 6 different kinds of cookies over the past week.  Anyway, these cookies were rich and fudgey and had peanut butter chips dotted through out.  She promised to bring in the recipe to share with everyone.  I wish there were extra to bring home and have for dessert.

Rain, Rain, Rain

It has been raining here like crazy!  All you see outside is rain, rain, and more rain.  I have a beautiful copper rain chain hanging outside by our back patio.  It has ornate flower cups after each link.  At the bottom of the chain I placed a basin to collect the water for display.  I love watching the water funnel down from flower down to the next flower.

I first saw rain chains at the home improvement center with the gutter drain pieces.  There were a few on display and I thought they looked much more appealing than the traditional gutter drain spouts.  I convinced my husband to pick up a few of these gorgeous chains.  When we brought them home to put up he said they were really easy to install.

Now whenever it rains outside not only do I get to listen to the rain but, I also get to watch the beautiful dispaly that our japanese rain chain makes.  The chain we have on the front of the house has hummingbirds on each cup and is simply breathtaking. Whoever designed these pieces is truly and artist.

Color Wonder and Crayons

I’m SOOOO very grateful for the invention of Magic Pens and Color Wonder Markers.  My daughter can color to her little heart’s content.  She loves to draw and is always asking to draw on something.  With these markers I dont’ have to worry about her getting ink on her clothes, the walls, or anything else for that natter.  I love that the invisible ink only shows up on the special paper made to use just with these products.

Now, crayons on the other hand…. ONLY BUY WASHABLE!!!  Yes, all crayons usually say they are washable but buy the ones that are marketed and labeled as being washable.  There REALLY is a HUGE difference.  The washable crayons wipe off of my walls with ease.  The regular crayons take a lot of elbow grease to get off.

I have to go birthday shopping and will be restocking on these two wonderful, worry-free, art supplies for the kiddos.

Happy Fourth!

fireworks

We are going to head downtown in an hour or so and try to get a nice parking spot and place to spread out a blanket to watch the fireworks. I love watching the fireworks shows – all the colors and sparkles are so fun! I don’t like those loud bangs so much, but I think they add some sense of history to it, I’ll be imagining the cannons that were fired from the ships in the harbor, during the attack on Baltimore’s harbor.

Online Education

I have a few friends that are considering going back to school. Sharon is looking at attending Walden University.  She wants to get her Master’s degree and doesn’t have a lot of extra time to spend to drive to a traditional campus.  She wants the flexibility of attending an online school to further her education.  I can sympathize with her.  I know having two kids and trying to find time to go to school is very difficult.  I don’t know how I manage to find the time that I do to do any of my homework for my program.

She told me that WaldenU.edu has 20 different Master’s programs available to choose from.  I think it’s worth looking into to see what other programs they have to offer for me.  I’m partway through my Master’s Program now.  I wonder if they offer any doctoral programs.  I’d like to continue to further my education and I think and online program would make life a lot easier for me and my family.

Holiday weekend

Yay! I’m soo excited to have a 3 day weekend.  One extra day to sleep in and spend time with the family.  Of course we also get to eat lots of goodies at barbecue and enjoy a nice fireworks show afterwards.  Happy birthday USA!

Kitchen Makeover

So I love to cook and bake but lately my kitchen has been a little unorganized.  My cupboard with my spice rack is a mess.  It’s two big shelves filled with bottles, jars, and boxes of ingredients.  I like to keep the savory separate from sweet items.  My top shelf is sweet and the bottom is savory.  However, if my husband gets into that cupboard he never puts things back in the same spot so it gets messed up.

I need a wall spice rack that could maybe hang on the back of my pantry door.  I’d love to have labels for the shelves so my dear husband would know where to put the spices back after her used them.  Maybe even two separate spice racks could work.  I wonder if I could find two long units that could hang side by side.  I could paint them different colors so that maybe sweet is pink and savory is brown.

I think I’ll do some searching online to find some of the best kitchen spice racks that could work to make my space more organized.  I hope I get lucky and find something that has everything I’m looking for and that I won’t have to customize too much.

Late Night Snack

Today I have had the strongest craving for potato chips and a hot fudge and caramel sundae.  I think maybe I’ll make a yummy concoction and mix the two.  I saw on the Martha Stewart Show that Jimmy Fallon now has his own ice cream flavor called Late Night Snack. It is vanilla ice cream with chocolate covered potato chip clusters and salty caramel swirls.  I must have been dreaming about it last night.  I don’t feel like going to the store right now so will have to make due with a homemade version.  Maybe I’ll pick some up next time I’m at the store.
