Pretty In Pink

Last night I was watching Grey’s Anatomy reruns.  I just love the hot pink scrubs that some of the nurses wear.  They look so comfy and cute!  OH!  That gives me an idea.  I think I’ll be a nurse for Halloween this year.  Scrubs would be REALLY comfortable to wander around town in with the kids as they go trick-or-treating from door to door.  Not only would it be an easy costume, I would actually wear it again.  I could use them as lounge wear around the house.  I don’t think I’d see myself wearing a witch, smurf, or pumpkin costume again on a regular basis.

I know http://www.blueskyscrubs.com/ has a nice variety scrubs for sale.  I bet I could get my entire costume from them.  Maybe I’ll even go so far as to order a matching hat.  I know the hat I probably wouldn’t wear again but it adds to the overall look.  I guess the only other things I’ll need are some nice comfy work shoes and of course I’ll need a stethoscope to round it all out.

I can’t wait!  Only a few months away.  Now if only it were this simple for my kids to decide what they want to be for Halloween I’d be set.

Summer Heat

The heat here is really killing me.  I feel like I’m melting the moment I walk outside of the house.  I feel horrible for my dog.  She’s a black lab German shepherd mix.  Her hair is almost all black.  We have it cut short for the summer but she still gets really hot if she stays outside in the sun for very long.

I can’t wait for it to cool off.  I can’t even take my kids to the park in the afternoon for fear of them getting burnt on the playground equipment.  If we go at all we have to go early in the morning before the heat has a chance to start cooking everything and bringing it all up to scorching temperatures.

I do love the summer, but I wish the heat was a lot milder.  Oh well, I guess I’ll enjoy the time to have popsicles and eat ice cream while it’s around.  Before I know it it will be fall and be getting chilly.

Time For Some New Numbers

My neighbor Susan ordered one of those new fancy address plaques.  She got one with her family name on it and it’s absolutely beautiful.  It definitely gives the front of her house a new and updated look.  It’s made of a black metal with ornate scroll work coming out from the top and sides.  The numbers and words are in a lovely copper tone and in a very classic, old-fashioned style font.

Honestly, I’m a little jealous.  All we have on the front of our house are our address numbers.  They aren’t even that pretty, just plain gold numbers in a standard, boring font. It’s probably Arial.  They wouldn’t look so plain if they were in a different font or maybe textured.

I think I want to order one of the house plaques like Susan got.  Sheesh, listen to me… it sounds like I’m trying to keep up with my neighbors now.  I’m not honest, I just really adore her new plaque and think that our house deserves an updated look too.  After all, it would go great with the new flower boxes we just installed.

Skinned Up Knees

My daughter had a blast playing at the park this afternoon.  She LOVES the swings.  Unfortunately, she fell off the swings today and skinned up her knees pretty bad.  It reminded me of when I was in fourth grade and went to a school that had gravel on the playground instead of grass or sand. I fell off of the merry go round one time and landed in the gravel.  I had to pick little rocks out of my elbows and knees.  It was awful!  I’m just happy that her knees will heal and she won’t have the scars that I do from skinning up my knees.

Swimming at the Y

We had such a fantastic time at the Y today!  We took the girls to the Y to go swimming.  I stuffed all our things in one of the lockers while my husband went and found us a nice group of loungers by the pool. I absolutely adore the kiddie pool they have.  My girls can wade around and the water never gets too deep.  The girls splashed around for what seemed like hours.

There was another family that brought their 3 kiddos and they had a great time with our girls.  They tossed a ball back and forth. Their oldest accidentally hit it soo hard that it went under the set of aluminum bleachers at the end of the pool deck.  My husband crawled underneath them and got it back for the kids.

After swimming and splashing for awhile,  I went back to the small locker to get the little insulated cooler  that had our lunch in it. We had a picnic out on the grass.  The weather was perfect.  We had turkey sandwiches,  fresh fruit salad, and I made us some yummy chocolate chip cookies for dessert.  We really enjoyed our afternoon together as a family.  I can’t wait to do it again.  I’m bummed that summer is almost over for most of us.

Water Bottles

I used to have a water bottle with a sports top.  My daughter always wanted a sip of my water so I could easily just squirt a bit into her mouth with this type of top.  Well… eventually she figured out how to use it and would get water ALL over the place.  I wasn’t very keen on cleaning up water everywhere… especially not when it was on the carpet.

I purchased a new fancy water bottle by Contigo.  I LOVE it!!!  It has a neat system that makes it impossible to spill or have dribbles of water come out. You have to press a button on the size to release a valve to be able to get any water.  I thought it was perfect because my daughter wouldn’t be able to figure it out and if she got a hold of the bottle on her own I wouldn’t have a big puddle to clean up.

Well… the day has finally come where she has figured it out.  darn!  I did get a good solid 10 months out of it though.  I can’t help that my daughter is growing up and can figure it out now I suppose.  I just have to keep it out of her reach unless I want to go back to puddle clean ups.  She’s already made a few and even doused herself in the process.

Dirty Paws

My dog trampled through all of the dirt and mud outside and decided to tromp it in the house all over our carpet. She really made a huge mess.  Paw prints are everywhere.  I don’t know if I’ll be able to clean all of this up by myself.  I decided to Google Carpet Cleaning Westlake to see if I could find a company that could do the job for me.

After some searching I stumbled upon http://www.thesteamteam.com/austin-carpet-cleaning/ They offer a variety of services that can help me get rid of this nasty mess.  I love the fact that they do a spot pre-testing before they clean the whole carpet… I’d hate for my carpet to be ruined.  I’m excited about the odor neutralization service they offer too.  Wet dog dog not smell good at all!

I can’t wait to get my house back to normal. I think I’ll get every room cleaned since I’m at it.  I might as well have the whole house done, there is no sense in cleaning only one room and leaving the rest a mess. Now I have to try and figure out a way to teach my dog to wipe her feet on the mat before she comes inside.

Fever…yuck!

This morning I got a horrible headache.  After awhile my whole body started to feel really achy.  I started to get the chills. I felt like I wanted to throw up.  I took my temperature and it was 100.1.  I took some Tylenol to help my fever go down.  It feels like I have the flu but it’s not flu season.  I suppose people can get the flu any time of year but the middle of summer seems a bit odd to me.  I wonder if I caught it from all of the kids at the party yesterday.

I just feel awful! It’s been a few hours and I still have a fever. Even after taking Tylenol my fever has gone up!   I hope I feel better soon.

Summer Birthday Parties

Today we went to a birthday party for one of my daughters’ best friends.  The party theme was fairy princesses.  All of the girls arrived in the most adorable costumes.  There was pixie dust every where,  not to mention all of the extra glitter that one of the moms brought. The Picnic Tables were decorated with cute little pink table cloths that had little fairies all over them.  Presents were strewn about the tables along with yummy treats and arts and crafts for the girls to do.

While the girls played on the playground equipment the moms set up a few activities to do.  We laid out materials to make little birthday crowns and fairy wings.  There were fuzzy pipe cleaners, pom pom balls, glue, markers, scissors, construction paper, and of course tons of glitter.  One of the moms made an example of each craft and set it on display for the girls to gather inspiration.  Each girl had her own little station to create her own fairy princess wings and crown.  The girls had a ball cutting and gluing and adding dashes of glitter.

The dads of the bunch just sat back in their Adirondack chairs and watched from a distance.  A few of them gathered around the grill.  It was their duty to cook the burgers and hot dogs while the girls had fun.  It seemed like they were more than happy to not be elbow deep in glitter.

Once the girls finished their crafts we ate lunch and had cake and ice cream.  Then the birthday girl opened all of her presents.  She got quite a few neat items including a few movies,  computer games, and an mp3 player.  She was thrilled to say the least.

At the end of the afternoon all of the Park Benches were covered in glitter and pom poms that had fallen off of the girls crowns and wings as they ran around.  Overall, it was a lovely afternoon and my daughter really enjoyed herself.  Her birthday is coming up soon.  We need to start planning her party.  I got quite a few neat ideas after going to the party today.

Shorts vs Long Skirt

Most of the time I like to wear shorts and sandals when I am working around the house or just running errands around town. Shorts are cool and don’t need ironing if you take them right out of the dryer before the wrinkles can set in.

This afternoon I wanted to meet up with a girlfriend who also has a daughter so they could have a play date. So we agreed to meet at a little family friendly restaurant that has a play area for kids. I decided to wear a long cotton skirt instead of shorts. Mommies like to dress up for play dates, too!
