Clean with Pressure Washer

I bought some resin white highback chairs for the patio a couple of years ago. Being under the sun and rain, the chairs have become very dirty. I tried scrubbing them with sponge and Ajax but the still looked dingy. The other day, I was ready to throw them away. I placed them on my curb and were up for grabs for anyone who may want them. My neighbor noticed them and knocked on my door. She told me that they are still good chairs and all I need is to clean them. I told her how I used some elbow grease and they were still dirty. She suggested using a pressure washer. She loaned me her personal washer for the day. What a difference that pressure washer made. The chairs looked so nice and new again and no elbow grease. I’m getting myself my own pressure washer!

Morning Infommercials

I woke up early this morning and instantly turned the television on. I was surfing the different channels and mostly saw infommercials for various weight loss programs, workout videos, and fitness equipments. Many celebrities were hosting the informmercials. I enjoy watching the workout videos and in fact have bought a couple of workout videos. Honestly, I hardly used the workout videos I bought. I bought the Yoga Booty Ballet, Yoga Pilates Workout, and many more. Hopefully, I will find the inspiration to find and use them.

When A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

The title of this post is not original but this quotation is so real and relevant to this time. I ran across a website for photographers who showcase their photos.

One shot was amazing. I am not a photo expert, but when I saw the picture of a lady on a train railpath, I felt an instant emotion that is difficult to describe. It’s a mix emotion of mystery, slight anxiety and some anticipation. I thought that the photographer’s techniques were effective in creating a mysterious photo.

There were several others in his portfolio. I was happy to stumble across his website today. I’m going to leave a comment on the one photo to tell him that I appreciate his work.

The Oscars

I thought this year’s Oscar Academy Awards is one of the more entertaining Oscar show for a while. I really enjoyed Hugh Jackman and his dance and song performances, especially the one with Beyonce. The past Oscar awardees eloquently and sincerely presented  the “Best Actor/Actress/Supporting Actor/Actress” awards. I definitely enjoyed watching the fashionable attire of the actresses.

American Idol

My nightlife is exciting again. I don’t need to go out or meet new people for excitement. All I have to do is turn my television on by eight and my favorite shows are on again. I have a full schedule starting with Desperate Housewives, then the Bachelor, American Idol, and Grey’s Anatomy. On two days out of the week where I don’t have any favorite show on, I usually watch movies through Netflix. With this down economy, I try to save money by not going to movie theatres. Movie tickets have gone up quite a bit this past few years. Movie theatre popcorn and drinks added to the movie tickets make movie going an expensive treat. Unless the movie has great cinematography, I would rather wait a couple of months and watch the movie in the comfort of my old couch while wrapped in my soft throw blanket.

DIY Kitchen Cabinet Renewal

I knew that staining the kitchen cabinets would be a huge undertaking, but since I was tired of staring at my old and faded kitchen cabinets, I decided to stop procrastinating. Luckily, I have some stain and brushes hidden away in the garage. Early in the morning, before my kids woke up, I decided to get all my materials. I got the stain, brush, sanding paper, and an old rag to wipe off any drips or mistakes quickly.

First, I removed the handles from the cabinets. Then, I wiped off the kitchen cabinets, lightly sanded the cabinet doors and frames, and wiped off the cabinets again. I used a brush to stain the cabinets. Using a brush is easier and a cleaner method.

The following day, after the cabinet stain had dried, I attached the handles.

The job was not easy but it sure feels good to see the finished product. I’m not a professional, so there are a few touch ups that I can do in my spare time.

Renewing Kitchen Cabinets

Last month, I was staring at my kitchen cabinets and noticed that they are  starting to look old and faded. The wood behind the cabinet door handles were very worn out. At this dismal economic time and with our finances, getting new cabinets is out of the question. So, I kept staring at our kitchen cabinets and thinking of how I can give them more life.

I decided to take it upon myself and start staining our kitchen cabinets. I know that it will be a lot of work to do this undertaking all on my own. It is a very daunting project and that keeps me staring at our kitchen cabinets.

Yes, We Can

I was at the kitchen busy washing the dishes when my three kids walked out of their bedrooms, chanting “Yes, We Can”. They looked so cute, but I wonder if they know what they’re talking about. I asked them where they heard the “Yes, We Can” and they all said that it’s from the Internet. My oldest child added, “It’s from President Barack Obama”. I went back to my dishes, although now I wish I took my time at that moment to teach them the deeper meaning of what “Yes, We Can” means.

Golden Globe Awards

I watched Entertainment Tonight’s show for the pre and post Golden Globe Awards show. All the actresses were beautiful and wore colorful, designer gowns and huge, sparkling earrings. Just watching them walk and talk was entertainment enough!

Although all of the actresses were glamorous looking, I always had a critique or two for each actress. Kate Winslett got the “Best Dressed” for a simple black gown. Most of them wore glittery, metallic gowns. I think the Golden Globe Awards for me is about fashion and glam more than an acting award!

Putting Christmas Decorations in Storage

New Year’s Day and the weekend was busy spent partying with families, and putting away the Christmas decorations. We put up an artificial Christmas tree that an old friend gave us many years ago. We have the stockings, snowmen, Santa Claus, Mickey&Minnie skaters, Christmas lights up during the holidays. It took us a little more than half a day to put them back in storage. I didn’t buy any Christmas decorations this year and we still have plenty. It was a fun holiday with bright colors, lights, and my kids were a little sad about putting the Christmas decorations away.
