Military Programs at Luther Sales

Although we almost never see anyone on the street wearing a military uniform, there is an Army base just 40 minutes north of the city. Ft. Campbell is an Army base, just over the state line in Kentucky. The base is so big it stretches down into Tennessee and neighbors Clarksville. But Nashville is the closest “big city” for the base.

Sometimes they send guys down to Nashville to catch a commercial flight from our airport. I saw a couple of officers today eating lunch at Shoney’s before heading out, so I said “Hey” when they got in line at the buffet next to me.

I have friends in the military, so I know a little about how tough it is to be an enlisted man and try to start a family. Just when you get things going you end up with orders that send you overseas for months at a time. So the new wife and the kids stay behind and make do.

That’s why I can appreciate a business like Luther Sales who make a big effort with their special Military Programs to help the enlisted men and women by approving them for LutherCharge. This is an Easy Credit Program so the military families can buy some of the furniture, computers and other nice things instead of having to rent them. This store lets military families buy Computers on Credit so the family can stay in touch with their loved one overseas with emails, VOIP calls, and blogs.

They make Purchasing Furniture on Credit easy, as all Federal Government & Military are approved. Its as simple as arranging for allotments, payroll deductions & direct deposit – they are all accepted at Luther Sales.

I browsed their New Look Website today and found special offers for buying a Plasma TV on Credit. For new families with small children and a loved one overseas, sometimes Easy Credit is hard to find and they have to do without the nice things. Luther Sales tries to help with that, and they even offer Free Nationwide Delivery for everything they sell online.

One last thing that really blows me away. For a limited time, Luther Sales will donate a free ipod to soldiers serving in the Middle East with the purchase of $2,500 from their store. This ipod offer for Soliders is just one more good reason to shop at Luther Sales.

Keep Your Post Its

Today’s newspaper has a post it note ad on the front page, which is becoming an almost daily nuisance. The post it note covers up part of the headline and tears the paper when I try to pull it off to throw it away. I suppose someone in the sales department of the newspaper thinks they are hot stuff and is busy selling post it note ads to their newspaper advertisers as a novelty item, “sure to get attention!”

In my opinion it backfires, as the post it note irritates me and makes me think badly of the sucker who is paying money to put those sticky annoyances on my paper. There are other ways to get my attention with your advertisement, and annoying me with post it notes that tear up my newspaper’s front page is not a good way.

Top City Choices

At lunch we were talking about the different cities across the United States and how the quality of life can differ so greatly depending upon where you choose to live. Of course, a lot of the discussion was subjective and how you define desirable qualities can change due to external factors, personal experience, and even media coverage.

In my current situation, a high quality of life involves nice but affordable housing in safe neighborhoods, a dynamic downtown with professional sports and cultural activities, and lots of opportunities for outdoor sports and recreation – such as lakes and rivers, state parks, etc.

Cities at the top of my personal list include:

  1. Austin, TX
  2. Nashville, TN
  3. Birmingham, AL
  4. Charlotte, NC
  5. Raleigh, NC
  6. Athens, GA
  7. Mobile, AL
  8. Louisville, KY
  9. Ft. Worth, TX
  10. St. Louis, MO

Well, just making a list has started me thinking that I should check out the different cities and see if I should be considering a move in the near future. One of the best ways to get to know an area is to work with a knowledgeable realtor and to be totally open and honest with them about your intentions to just look around.

I was able to find help with Austin real estate by clicking on the HomeCity.com web site and drilling down to the neighborhood and agent. That’s one of the things that I like about HomeCity – you can choose an area and neighborhood if you know where you want to buy, or you can click on the general area and get plenty of detailed information.

I know enough about Austin to be dangerous. The major areas in Austin includes Eanes, Rolling Hills, Round Rock, Lake Travis and the outskirts that make up the greater Austin TX region. So I’ll use HomeCity.com to help me find a broker experienced in the Austin Real Estate market and get help learning more about the different neighborhoods and local quality of life.

A Good Night’s Sleep

Sleep is such an important human condition. Sometimes I hate the way that our bodies require sleep – it is such a disruption to the day or night to have to stop and lie down for 6 hours. But a good night’s sleep is important to your health and ability to function well the next day.

On a good night, I might be able lie down for 8 hours. To be honest, I can’t remember the last time I’ve slept longer than 8 hours uninterrupted. Most night’s I’m good with between 6 and 8 hours of good sleep.

There are several considerations to a good night’s sleep and one of the most important is a comfortable, supportive bed. This becomes even more important as our bodies grow and mature, with our skeleton and muscles needing proper support and rest. The right bed can mean the difference between a completely relaxing and sound sleep, or a night of tossing and turning with fits of wakefulness.

As we are moving to a larger house this summer, I have had my eye on certain pieces of new furniture that I would like to replace or add to our household. In my opinion, the most important room in the house is the master bedroom. Everything else in a house can be replaced or substituted outside of the home, but the one main reason a man comes home at night is so that he can climb into his own bed.

Shopping for a new bed is worth a little time and effort to find the right bed, considering how important the bed is to a good night’s sleep. I found a web site called www.time4sleep.co.uk with all kinds of bed types – a large variety of styles and different types of beds for every home or person.

My favorite beds on this site are the storage beds. There are different types of storage options and they make the bed very practical. Since the bed takes up so much space in the room, it makes total sense to me to make good use of the space under the bed to store items not used often. These bed make storage either attractive or hidden, at a cost similar to beds without the storage features.

Ending the Catalog Madness

Was your mailbox crammed full of mail order catalogs this Christmas season like mine was? It was unbelievable how many off the wall subjects and whacky products are covered in mail order catalogs. I received dozens of catalogs pimping everything from massage stones to bird feeders to health food supplements to plus sized lingerie.

After a little digging, I found out that when you do buy something from a catalog, the transaction is reported to a company called “Abacus,” which is owned by DoubleClick Digital Advertising – and if you surf the internet you KNOW who these guys are! They sell, rent, and pretty much whore your personal information to other catalog companies and junk mail publishers based on what you just ordered from any of their other catalog companies.Your name and address and the fact that you’ve bought from a catalog is worth money to these guys and you get put on their sucker list for a very long time.

We can all stop getting these junk mail catalogs by sending an email to the “Abacus Catalog Alliance” at this address: optout@abacus-direct.com. Tell these guys, in no uncertain terms, that you want off their lists and never want to hear from them again. Make sure the email includes your first, middle, and last name and the same for anyone else in your household who receives mail in names other than yours, include your current address, and if you’ve moved in the past year, include your previous address, too. This will stop the catalog madness and save a lot of trees, too.

What a Difference!

The past several days have typical summer weather with temperatures in the high 80’s or low 90’s and high humidity. The kind of hot muggy days that suck the energy right out of you and you really appreciate the cool air conditioning when you get home.

We’ve had a lot of thunderstorms this summer. We need the rain, so I can’t complain much, but the thunder makes my dog bark and freak out, and the lightning makes me nervous about strikes too close to home. I’ve to power down my computer several times these past several days so that if we have a lightning strike it won’t zap my system.

But today is beautiful so far. It’s only about 80 degrees, sunny with a few clouds, there is a nice breeze, and the humidity is gone. I’ll be outside as much as possible today to take advantage of this!
