Blueberry Muffins

Does anybody NOT like blueberry muffins? I think this is one food that is universally loved by everyone.

I used to pick blueberries from the bushes in the backyard of my first grade teacher. She had about a dozen blueberry bushes and would invite the kids to come pick as many as they wanted for free on the weekend of the fourth of July every year. The rest of the summer you could still come pick them, but she would charge $2 per pail.

Layoffs Announced

Every day this week we have been hearing reports that big companies are having layoffs. There are retail stores going bankrupt, manufacturing companies shutting down, and even the government is laying off people. The state is expecting a huge shortfall in revenue, so even the schools are being told to cut back 15% somehow. That would be a terrible blow to our county schools, who have been struggling to overcome the NCLB regulations.

Is it the Flu?

There seems to be a lot of people getting sick this week. Several people are coughing, sneexing and moaning through their day at work. This drives me nuts. If you are sick, sty home and don’t spread your germs to everyone else. I’m glad I’m you and strong and stay healthy most of the year. I sure don’t want to end up with the flu right before Christmas if people are sick with the flu and not staying home to take care of themselves.

Revenge on the Sabres

The Preds were in the armpit of America to play the Sabres tonight. I caught the game on Fox Sports TN. We played a good game, and won, thanks to Arnot’s and Dumont’s two goals.

Tonight’s game was nothing like the spankings we got the last two times we faced the Sabres. Just goes to show that every game is a clean slate with a chance to win. Interesting that Ellis was punished for his loss to Mason and they used Renne to defend our goal tonight instead of the starter that took Mason’s place.

Predators at Home

Scored the most excellent free tickets to the game tonight against St. Louis. Two seats near the defending faceoff circle, right on the glass.

There were a lot of good hits – absolute bounce their faces off the glass, hard hits, right in front of us. Very electrifying and yet no one was hurt the entire game. In fact, there weren’t any fights, either. Not that you need fights for a good game. There was no score the entire game and a fight could have ended up with players in the penalty box, giving the other team a power play advantage that neither team could afford.

Ended up a tire and then a shoot out. Unfortunately, the other team had the better goalie and the Preds lost by 2. The better goalie note was a particular rub in the face of the coaching and management who let that goalie get away from us last year. Bad mistake and it bit them in the ass tonight.

Predators on their Long Road Trip

Every year the Predators have a long road trip worked into their schedule. They go up to Canada and then work their way down the west coast, and are gone for about 2 weeks. Most of the players and coaches like it because they are from Canada (born and raised or played minor league hockey there), so they get to visit family and friends when they are not on the ice.

Traveling is very hard on people. You have time zone changes, different eating and sleeping schedules, and the food is different. There is a lot to be said about the drop in productivity when someone is suffering jet lag.

So the Preds have been doing battle with Canadians and Californians and fared OK. There are home again for a rematch with San Jose tonight. Glad to have them home.

WTG Preds!

Last night the Nashville Predators stole two points from the San Jose Sharks.

First off, I’ve always hated the Sharks – until possibly this year. My biggest beef with them was their a-hole coach. But since they canned him when he failed to take them to the Stanley Cup last year, I might be willing to give the Sharks a shot at redeeming themselves.

Secondly, The team is currently in first place in the NHL based on points. So for the Preds to beat the first place team was an awesome achievement.

Thirdly, our goaltending has just been mediocred since the team let Volkoun go. That so ticked me off – and they have paid dearly for that mistake. So, to see Dan Ellis make almost 60 saves was actually thrilling. that was probably the best game in his pro career.

Cold Fries

What is it about french fries that makes them turn into little rocks of stuff that you can barely swallow when they get cold? I mean, lots of foods taste OK after they’ve gotten cold.  Some things even taste better, like meatloaf. I love a cold meatloaf sandwich. You put a thick slice on white bread, a little mayo and a couple leafs of lettuce, a slice of fresh tomato – if they are in season. Awesome sandwich. But the cold french fries – even my dog won’t eat them cold.

Eight Wins – WTG Titans!

Wow – another game that had everyone biting their nails. Not the best game for Collins but thank God for field goals. Reminded me very much of the playbook the Titans used when they first came to Tennessee. It was field goals that took them to the Super Bowl.

So the Titans are the only team in the NFL with 8 wins. Who would have ever believed this could happen back in August when we started out?

Way To Go, Titans!

Awesome game on Monday Night Football. The Titans scored first with a field goal, then the Colts answered with a touchdown and it looked like the Colts were going to win this game. but toward the end our QB saved the day. With several throws that only a seasoned quarterback like Collins could manage, we scored big and won the game.

Even the commentators mentioned the fact that a seasoned quarterback made the right plays in this game. And they remarked on the strong character it took for the Titans to not give up in the face of a loss to the Colts and rally around Collins to turn the game around and win.

I can NOT believe that the Titans are now 7 and 0. That is so awesome I am speechless.

Vince WHO??? If Coach Fisher even THINKS about dumping Collins he has lost his freaking MIND.
