New President

Next week we get us a new President here in the United States, and I for one am not very excited over the coming events. I can not see a lot of change coming from other Presidents that we have had, they all come into the office full of piss and vinegar and then they come to realize that nothing really changes just the face in front of the camera. I wish Obama all the best he is going to need the whole country behind him and I am not sure if that is enough to make any major changes.

Elvis

The great Elvis Presley turns 74 this year and I have one set in stone rule that I must follow every year. I will not work on Elvis’s birthday or the day he died. I worked a couple of years ago on his birthday and I wound up wrecking my truck it cost me $5,000 not to follow my own stupid rules. So this year I am going to set on the couch with a peanut butter and banana sandwich and watch TV all day. There is a reason for all rules and this one is set in stone for me.

Ring in the new year

Last night was another of the most boring New Years Eves anyone in the world has ever spent. We went to bed at 10 pm and watched a bit of David Letterman like always and fell asleep before Craig Ferguson, which is a much better show than either Letterman or Leno. At least we were assured that there was no DUI in our plans for New Years Eve and we get to start the new year well rested and safe. I can not complain about being boring at least it does not cost us a lot of lawyer fees to start off the new year.

All I want for Christmas

All I want for Christmas this year is a Tennessee Titans run to the Super Bowl, as the top seed in the AFC I would think this might just be the year we make it all the way to the Super Bowl. It has been since 1999 that the Titans have made it to big game and I think this team is just as good as that one, maybe even better. Kerry Collins has done a great job leading this team and I hope this is the year the Titans make the big push and win the Super Bowl in 2009!

Best BBQ

I have had BBQ in many parts of this country and some have been very good………Martins BBQ in Nolensville TN. Some have been very bad…….Lucille’s in Oklahoma City it was roast beef swimming in ketchup, and I do mean swimming. Texas makes a very good BBQ, and in my opinion the folks who do BBQ in the south are way over rated to much vinegar for me, give me good Kansas City or Texas BBQ and I am one happy boy.

Day of sorrow

A few days ago the anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was observed. This is one day in history that can not be forgotten about, I consider it the first terrorist attack since we were not at war with Japan and the Japanese had very little chance of winning a war with any power they resorted to a sneak attack. We lost a lot of men that Sunday morning and they should be remembered as heroes for defending our great country.

Local

One of the many local bright spots here in Nashville are the local music venues. You can see all kinds of music an a daily basis, including more than the typical country music you would think would be featured here in Music City USA. I worked at several radio stations here in Nashville and I can proudly say not a one of them was a country music station. I like the classic rock and roll to listen to and if I have a choice I like news talk over country any day unless it is Rush Limbaugh, I hate him and can not stand to listen to him at all.

Winter

Let me start off this rant by saying I hate winter and I hate any one who likes winter. I think that pretty much says it all. The people here in Nashville have no idea how to drive on ice or snow so as soon as it starts falling they all herd towards the grocery store to get milk, bread and eggs. I call it snow food, they do not want to be stranded with out those three things, it may be all they have in the house but the can make french toast and scrambled eggs, I guess they will not starve unless the power goes out and they can not cook, then that is another rant to come later on.

Big game

This week is a big week for me and my football teams. Vanderbilt really needs to beat Tennessee today and I really need Oklahoma to come big and beat Texas Tech. The wins would make it very interesting for bowl games and in the case of Oklahoma a big factor in making it to the national championship game against Alabama unless LSU beats the Tide in the SEC Championship game later on. Confused? Well so am I. Let us just hope all of my teams win today and then we can sort it out later on.

Theme Bars

Back in the 80’s the adult night scene was either fern bars, piano lounges, or honky tonks. Now the trend is to have theme bars. I think the trend started with the Hard Rock Cafe and Planet Hollywod type venues. Now I see bits and pieces of publicity for different bars, like the new one in L.A. that is called Saints and Sinners. Half of the bar is red and black and the other half is blue and white. I wonder if anyone even goes over to the “saints” side? That’s not exactly why people go to bars, now is it? LOL
